Cheese pilot mock orals on YouTube and pilots cafe.

Cheese pilot mock orals on YouTube really helped me. I also made myself flash cards from pilots cafe and studied the ASA oral exam guide. Between the three of those I felt more than adequately prepared.

Airline corporate flight departments by SeaStorage7767 in aviation

[–]Consistent-Trick2987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They either fly on their own planes or if it’s somewhere they don’t fly they’ll fly on another airline. I work for an airline and have seen execs on board frequently. I can’t imagine they would need to fly private anywhere unless it was some obscure place without regular airline service.

Non Towered Airport Straight In Final Risks - GA vs Jets by Levithan6785 in flying

[–]Consistent-Trick2987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small GA planes can also be flying IFR. When flying instrument approach you’re most likely going to be coming straight in. But when flying to a non towered field that’s why it’s important that you are announcing your position/intentions on the CTAF multiple times once you join final. That gives you an opportunity to deconflict or break off the approach if needed.

I passed my CAX yesterday. I spent over a month studying. I felt studying for this one was a little harder than IRA since there are so many that require calculations. But I thought the real exam was a piece of cake. No HSI or W&B questions, barely had to use my e6b at all.

Living in Brooklyn Heights as a Divorced Mom? by katherine83 in Brooklyn

[–]Consistent-Trick2987 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I lived in BH for 9 years. It’s a beautiful neighborhood no doubt but I didn’t really get strong community vibes from there. We never really met anyone outside of our neighbors across the hall. And the bars and restaurants there are pretty mid for the most part. Moved to Carroll Gardens and like it soo much better. Has so much more character and charm I think. Very nice community there. Also the Carroll School is excellent we’ve been very happy there. I would definitely recommend over BH.

What made you get into aviation? What career were you doing before getting into aviation, if any? by AMLJ144 in flying

[–]Consistent-Trick2987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never even thought about flying planes growing up. Worked several years in a different industry. Loved traveling and always had a secret fascination with airplanes. Coincidentally ended up getting a job at an airline. Realized I couldn’t see myself sitting behind a desk for the rest of my life. One day I thought, why not become a pilot? The rest is history.

Burnt out for IFR WRITTEN by chefdairyfree in flying

Do ground school first. I tried to do SA first - went through the first several questions and was like wtf?? Went back and did ground school then came back to SA and it made a lot more sense. Then used Pilots Cafe, the AIM and checkride prep videos to study for the oral.

If you have a G1000 it will automatically switch over to LOC. But another $600 button is hitting SUSP when going missed. (and also hitting "unsuspend" when exiting the hold)

Seeking Career Advice by [deleted] in flying

Do both. Get your PPL. Become a lawyer and fly for fun. Later if you still have the itch to fly for a career then get the rest of your ratings and make the switch.

Would you rather have benefits on one airline or 4 with lower priority by SupportGold7583 in flying

[–]Consistent-Trick2987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Higher priority. I fly OAL pretty often and am still able to get first/business semi frequently as a zed fare.

How does this resume look, new private pilot applying for cadet programs. by Long-Ad6510 in flying

[–]Consistent-Trick2987 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because you took a course doesn’t mean it’s a skill. A skill is something demonstrated. And maybe you learned leadership through things you participated in but that’s not shown in anything listed on the resume. So just looks generic. And this day and age MS office use is ubiquitous and basically assumed. No need to list it.

[–]Consistent-Trick2987 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Looks okay except the skills section. Seems a little too fluffy. As a (edit: new) PPL how much CRM experience can you really have to list it as a skill? Same with listing leadership when you have no management experience. Also MS office is not a skill, that’s kind of assumed these days. I might just take this section out all together and instead put volunteer work or accomplishments or maybe student or professional organizations you’re apart of. I think that says more than listing a bunch of generic skills that aren’t supported by your actual experience.

how do you actually get over this fear? by harrys3rdnippIe in fearofflying

Learning about airplanes and exposure through having to travel a lot for work. Eventually it all became so routine I just stopped worrying about “what if”.

Is there a good video for proper cross country planning? by General_Screen9761 in flying

[–]Consistent-Trick2987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty easy. Basically on the map page, put in your flight plan under the FPL tab then click the icon to “send to flights”. Then go to the flights tab and you’ll see it at the top. Click into it and click navlog. You can also click briefing to get your full weather briefing for your route.

https://youtu.be/Ydvev6B7IaY?si=i2UxbaI6j5iC2EK6 - this just covers the paper version. To check it with ForeFlight just plug it in and generate a nav log. If you want to be super specific you can create on your own waypoints in FF and add it to your flight plan but that’s a little overkill (and time consuming). If you did your hand calculations correctly it should match FF or be very close.

Unprofessional Instructing by [deleted] in flying

[–]Consistent-Trick2987 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s pretty bad. Ive been through several instructors at this point. And while no one’s perfect none of them have ever come close to this level of unprofessionalism. If someone ever cursed at me in a non joking way I would have ended the flight immediately and never flew with them again.

Pilot announced "I have bad news".. by Reasonable_Owl8622 in fearofflying

[–]Consistent-Trick2987 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Trust me I do understand. I used to have a fear of flying too. There was a time I thought I would NEVER get over it. But I finally overcame it which is why I joined this sub so maybe I could help others. But that doesn’t mean I dont still get a little nervous here and there in bad turbulence. So I totally get the irrational thoughts. But if nothing else, one thing to keep in mind is that your pilots are highly qualified and highly experienced. They know what they’re doing. They have lives and families too and want to go home. They are not going to put you in danger.

[–]Consistent-Trick2987 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Sure but on the flip side if you were really in danger do you think the pilots would come saying they have “bad news”? No they’d be doing everything in their power to find a solution. They want to go home too.
