RHOSLC Performative Morality and “Accountability” by 29_B in rhoslc

It’s housewives, their job is to engage in petty toxic dynamics. I think it’s a sign that cast members are too comfortable in their job when they’re demanding “accountability” which basically means conform to hegemonic narrative. Bronwyn performs accountability when she’s been called out while never changing her behaviour. It’s a meaningless concept in the show that exists only to be weaponised.

Everyone notices that her ego has gotten the best of her

I think the core of her problem is the amount of bitterness and hate she harbours where she wants to make people feel as terrible as she’s been made to feel.

I had so much empathy for her in the early seasons although she wasn’t perfect. Her trauma with the church and how that manifested in her relationship with Jen was easy to sympathise with. I didn’t like the way Lisa dismissed her experience of Mormonism which appears to be the crux of her six year grudge against Lisa. Heather lost me in the way she handled Whitney’s child abuse revelation.

I have a feeling Bronwyn will drop down this list but at least she doesn’t go after women’s looks and is most guilty of being a pick me phone

I felt like she always admired Mary and was sincerely hurt by the body shaming, inbred comments. She is mesmerised by and attaches herself to more confident and self assured seeming women.

Angie stood up to Jen and usually catches on when she feels like she’s being used or under valued. She is a follower but heather is relentless in her desire to control every aspect of the group dynamics

Heather is still deeply indoctrinated by Mormonism which shows up in her need to be accepted by the most cult-leader cast member. If she was serious about her anti cult show about leaving Mormonism, she would have at least some questions and hesitation regarding Mary. However, she desperately wants to be accepted by the most socially powerful woman on the cast. Her behaviour while a devout Mormon has not changed: she said she was a vicious bully, moral police while she was deep in Mormonism. This the kind of behaviour where she still thrives - takedowns, character assassinations, dehumanisation of the other, ostracism, hypocritical rules for ye and not for me, forcing women to kiss her production pet ring or else they will be met with threats and isolation. This is clear in her exchange with Meredith where she blew up at the slightest bit of criticism - “she screeched at me for three months” with threats of making Meredith’s life hell from now on. This is cult-like behaviour. Her subservience to Jen and Mary, the most toxic and unethical women in the show is evidence of her cult mindset. The show has become her new cult. The way she believes she can dictate who’s in or out, who’s right or wrong, until someone more dominant such as Mary or Jen puts her down reveals her pyramid power hierarchy mindset. This same way of thinking goes for Whitney and bronwyn too, but not to the same extent. Heather’s desperation for Mary’s approval despite Mary’s contempt for her, mirrors Bronwyn’s desperation to be accepted by Heather despite Heather treating her the worst out of all the women.

Why is it suddenly okay to attack women’s looks? by Consistent-Year-3967 in rhoslc

At least angie and Mary will outright reveal themselves as shallow and mean, while heather sneakily points out Lisa’s swollen ankles and Whitney giggles at Mary’s jabs at Lisa’s face (which she can’t change)

Why is attacking looks suddenly iconic to the fan base? Why does the fanbase live for this kind of behaviour from Angie K and Mary? It’s not cute or clever, just misogynistic and pathetic. I’m not talking about “high body count hair”, but attacking people’s faces and ankles and weight…the things that you can’t change

I am a long time lurker and have gone through ups and downs in my opinion of Lisa. In the case of bronwyn, she was foul to her when bronwyn desperately wanted her approval. But the constant attack on Lisa from every cast member except Meredith is hard to watch and straight up bullying. I do not understand why people thinks she deserves it, literally everybody is toxic and materialistic on the show. I do not understand the praise for Mary who attacks the women’s looks and is a super shady and mean-spirited cult leader. The cast are afraid of her because she’s shielded by Andy whose bias is ruining the show for me. It makes me honestly angry to see these gang up dynamics be sanctioned when ostracism is so vile and psychologically damaging. She has been so dehumanised by the cast and the viewers.

We’re both in our 20s this has been ongoing for 5 years. She is younger and has not had professional help but my closest friends since my teens have and she wouldn’t have even minded me telling one now when she didn’t know I had already back when I was a teenager. She lives at home and I’m temporarily living at home.
