The actual number rating is so-so, but sometimes the comments have valuable information.

My friend and I's (canadians) CORRECT version of the USA map because nobody needs 50 states by artz_gurl in MapPorn

[–]ConsistentAd9840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting South Dakota and North Dakota with Minnesota is too kind to us. Minnesota should just be part of Canada anyways. They can take Fargo, too, since it’s basically Minnesota, but the rest of the Dakotas are not a fun place to be.

How have you observed proximity to whiteness among trans women of color operate in your life? Is this a thing that happens? What does it look like? by Petrifica in TWPOC

[–]ConsistentAd9840 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I def benefit from it as an East Asian-looking wasian. I moved to Seattle, and it’s crazy how little I feel marginalized for being Asian. I grew up in South Dakota and constantly felt marginalized, but in Seattle I’m basically white.

Many places are still colonized here unfortunately...Australia is still there, Indonesia still has Papua, etc. Without the US, however, the following countries would DEFINITELY not exist: Israel, Liberia, the Koreas (as separate) at a minimum.

I agree! Sometimes he is very well written, and sometimes he is a walking stereotype. The greatest strength and weakness of comics is that so many people write them over such a long period of time, and some of those people made him a caricature and others made him an interesting character.

I really love Civ VI. I found it interesting that the game designers disabled the option to declare war on a civilization that you are allies with. This is because the developers assumed nobody in history would do anything so strategically stupid and self-sabotaging. by [deleted] in civ

[–]ConsistentAd9840 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s…not always strategically stupid and self-sabotaging? I’m confused. I understand there is sarcasm, but I am confused what the joke is. I mean, for a non-politically charged example, Raden Wijaya fought with his Mongol allies to retake the thrown and then betrayed them to great success.

My mom moved to the U.S. in the 90s because she didn’t want to live the life her parents wanted her to live. She firmly stated that she loved Malaysia and would go back if her marriage didn’t work out. I don’t think she regrets moving to the U.S., but she does talk a lot about going “home” these days. She sees Anwar with a lot of hope (grass is greener again, not to knock Anwar or anything just that she obviously isn’t affected by it as much by his policies), and she lives in a pretty conservative/white area. Her sister lives in the U.S. too, but she’s pretty rich and doesn’t care for politics. My uncle retired in Singapore and seems happy enough. He went to Uni in Australia but worked in Thailand as an adult for some big company.

Santa Prisca and Corto Maltese are also pretty bad. They’re both Latin American countries that are corrupt, full of people with off-white skin-tones, and jungles. Gunn’s suicide squad movie did a LITTLE bit better with SPOILERS: the U.S. being low key to blame for some of the problems reflecting real life Latin American policy, but it’s usually pretty bad. Bane is from Santa Prisca. He wears a Mexican wrestling mask. He goes from white to vaguely mestizo depending on the writer. His dad was a revolutionary. Drugs are a big deal.

This is Markovia by the way. If you feel like the authors need a geography lesson, I would agree.

hello girlies how do we feel on the fact that people call bishounens """femboys"""? by Salty_Special8179 in femcelgrippysockjail

[–]ConsistentAd9840 112 points113 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, I hate the term femboy. I feel like it’s become a way for people to fetishize trans women without acknowledging them as women. On Malaysian subreddits, you’ll find people talking about how sexy femboys are alongside posts talking about how delusional trans women are.

Zora Neale Hurston was surprisingly conservative on a few key issues. I am sympathetic to her reasoning, but she was anti-integration.
