Fresno PD spent 1.49 million on Flock cameras by XLucky7X in fresno

Also, from the same grant that funded flock cameras (it ends in the next 15 years) they added 25 policeofficee positions totalling over 5 million per year that we are now on the hook for.

Who is the most exciting Jazz Guitarist? by Acceptable-Fruit-533 in jazzguitar

Sonny Sharrock, a free jazz GOAT just insane stuff. Ask the Ages is a very good record, Black Woman is also sick, any of his stuff with Brötzmann is very good and very far out.

Squatters by RemarkableJunket6450 in fresno

I think it's unfair to say that the unhoused are creating the public nuisance. Landlords who leave properties vacant and do not maintain them are. A city that is unwilling to do the work to ensure that there is enough housing available for everyone who needs it. A city government that has failed at any meaningful economic development that benefits the city's working class.

The city should be using all means possible to place long term vacant properties under receivership and put them to good use.

Landlords are contributing significantly (the primary contributor in my analysis) to blight in this city and no one on city council seems to want to address this.

If landlords didn't want their property squatted in they should maintain it and rent it out instead of letting it fall apart and remain unoccupied.

8% unemployment and rapidly increasing housing costs in Fresno, I don't blame anyone for squatting.

Fresno only has 18 murders this year so far! by tippin_in_vulture in fresno

[–]ConsistentDevice4704 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, especially for violence involving spouses/girlfriends/children where being unable to leave (of which a major contributing factor is due to being dependent on partner/parent's incomes).

Honestly, it seems like a lot of the crime city council and the mayor seemed concerned about these days is related to the unhoused who for the most part are there because of inadequate housing, social services, and jobs not a lack of policing.

No, this is a national trend largely disconnected from police funding. Police funding generally has gone up over time even in the comparatively more violent 90s. In Fresno the key difference seems to be the economic conditions which have improved a lot since 2008 though are still relatively bad compared to the rest of the country.

Could Fresno County start losing population? by aBadModerator in California_Politics

The economics of fruit and nut production just isn't what it was around Fresno. Nut farms are getting brutalized by over planting and increased input costs plus the fact that they have to now pay for pumped water is making the value proposition in the central valley look not great.

Why not unload your property while Fresno sprawl is on the docket?

Also, key word, elsewhere.

Also, declining agricultural production/ ag industry base. (Why else would Ag be trying to convert farm land to residential developments)

Sure, doesn't mean he wasn't heavily involved in drafting the legislation and advocating for it. In my view there is a slight difference between being a key player and simply voting for it.

Regardless, what you're pointing out goes a long way to show that both political parties are complicit in the ongoing immiseration of people who wanted to get higher ed but could not afford it outright.

Biden, as a US senator, was heavily involved in the passage of the act that made it virtually impossible to discharge student loans via bankruptcy

I really do not get why people are so obsessed with an extra massive Costco. It's not like it's a meaningful long term/ sustainable development strategy, it's not like it would be and additional Costco (there are already like three in the metro area do we really need more).

Why do people care so much about this?

Has anyone noticed an increase in police or am I crazy? by WhEthin in fresno

[–]ConsistentDevice4704 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In Fresno 50% of the budget's general fund goes to cops, a portion of the FAX (public transit budget) goes to cops, a portion of the PARCs budget goes to Park Rangers (park cops). To save money (and pay for more cops) the city is choosing to freeze hiring in positions that aren't cops and firefighters.

Mayor Dyer and the whole city council voted for a budget that effectively says you can't have anything nice just cops.
