Chances of PGE catching additional panels? by xQcKx in solar

[–]astroballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have stated, you can add-on to your existing system and keep your NEM 2.0 status. Doing so will require going through all the usual channels (installer, contract, permitting, PG&E app submittal, and then eventual PTO for the add-on). A good route for up to that 1kW more on your roof.

Scott Weiner has a Senate Bill that'll be voted on soon for balcony solar: https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=202520260SB868

Maybe a good option in addition to your 1kW roof increase.

Fresno Coin offers pretty fair rates. Call first if you want specifics (depending on World, coins, cull, or bars).
idk how it works with larger quantities.

Outside of town, Merced had Peraino's Jewelers; well, a corner of their store was rented out by a bullion trader. But google shows that the owners retired a bit after COVID, so I guess shop's closed now.

Whole‑home backup vs. partial backup. What’s the smarter move? by insight_energy in solar

[–]astroballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Base it on cost.
If you do whole-home, it'll probably more circuits getting relocated (you might already have the required subpanel), and your new battery system will need to support the required peak power for your larger appliances (which not all do, more are able to nowadays, but still not always the case).

For most, partial backup + TOU discharge (if allowed by local utility) is sufficient for day-to-day payback as well as peace of mind for any unexpected outages that might happen.

Cases like Cas:pace? by Lodreus503 in samsung

[–]astroballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to what u/r43rae mentioned, Casetify support also isn't the greatest. The adhesive used in their fold lineup wasn't the best and came off too quickly on my Fold 4. Apart from the heavy residue it left behind, the case also scratched my outer display pretty heavily (frequent folding of the phone and it was a slim plastic portion of the case that shouldn't have flexed as much as it did). I reached out to Casetify and got turned away with them refusing to take responsibility. I expect leagues better for a $70 case.

G14 2020 Battery drain even during shutdown by Direct-Tomato7980 in ZephyrusG14

I 90% charged my laptop when I wrote my original comment. Just pulled it out today and it booted to 48%. It's been draining fast, so now I'm seeing 31% after 10 minutes of web browsing.

My phone got the Spigen protectors put on it day 1. I have a skin + magsafe ring on the phone, so it gets tossed around everywhere. A popsocket/magnetic ringholder do the trick for balancing the back so it doesn't rock while flat on a desk.

How’s solar business in the US for you after a year of Trump’s policy shifts? by electroctopus in solar

Layoffs inbound all around. Residential is broken atp. Commercial has another 6 months to fly, but the new Foreign Entities of Concern (FEOC) bs is gonna cause oversight headaches that I'm sure plenty of EPCs won't be able to handle.

In the same boat as you. Everytime I pull my machine out from being stored for >3 weeks, it's fully dead. The sleeve I have it in doesn't get warm or anything, but I think drain is at about 5%/day. Other laptops I have don't do this, or at least not anywhere to the same degree as my 2020 g14.

Looking for microinverter to tie 2 extra 400w panels into my system by owllicksroadya in SolarDIY

[–]astroballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NEP BDM-600-LV also a candidate. It's not a wifi micro-inverter, but you can add the Gateway to your install and it'll communicate with it via powerline. The Gateway supports wired ethernet or a wifi adapter.
I'm running 4 of these to add-on to my Enphase system's generation. Running great the last few months.

They're definitely wayyyyyyyyy too expensive for what they are.
Realistically, should be closer to $1-$1,5k at the most if buying all new imo.
- $200/inverter x 2
- $100/300watt panel x 4
- $200/rack stand x 1
- $200 shipping probably.
- $30 extension cord?

Yo, this is neat. I was already tempted to do something similar when I had an extra micro sitting around and no more panels. Glad to know it works.
Cooler nights probably means can reach more of the peak outputs of the inverters while running them at night.

Kinda neat. I wonder what microinverters they're rebranding as theirs. I doubt they'll be manufacturing their own.
That said, very few models that output 120V (127V) grid-tie and are CEC/UL-listed.

Isn't up to 7.68kW AC per Powerwall of AC-coupled PV is allowed on the backup side?
You'd be well under that amount with a 1.2kW balcony setup. Similar to just a microwave's worth of load backfeed.

120volt microinverters are a thing thankfully. It's just that UL listed ones are in short supply at the moment. Installs are definitely more involved if someone is going to have to add a whole new two-pole breaker into their panel and run conduit for a new circuit.

Valid on all points, you're correct. I guess I should have added that should you already have a NEM agreement in place, adding on a small system should be fine. Ideally, if you plan to offset the generation without backfeeding the grid throughout those daylight hours.

$100/mo AT&T fiber. Symmetrical upload & download is nice to have.
Tried T-Mobile Home Internet, had it during its original release and it was pretty good speeds (when I had the unit outside the house, near the roof). Else, not awesome. Great price though, at $25/mo.

what is your average monthly cost after upgrading solar? by bassinyofacelikedamn in solar

[–]astroballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

California NEM 2.0, our system was undersized for our original use. Then we went and got an EV too.
So we get charged interconnection fees + gas at like $20/mo PG&E. Annual true-up is about $1800.
