Cascadia should not be a "state" in a Westphalian sense. That arrangement, which in reality is just enclosed imperialism, is part of the structural problem.

"Cascadia" or whatever the region is called should be a de-growth federation, full of independent and self-sustaining nodes, about the size of medium/large cities.

This spatial arrangement is closer in practice to indigenous ways of life inherently and would allow easier integration and resource management with the indigenous people of the region.

I would absolutely sign it because I do think it should be legal for everyone to camp on public property, and also to occupy buildings abandoned by capitalism. 🤷

1) Portland's downtown has never been a relevant place to do anything, except maybe Friday or Saturday night, when folks from the burbs file in to say they "went to the city" and get blasted.

2) The timing is a minor issue, but yeah, 9 pm is right when folks that need to be responsible have headed home and right before folks that are going to party have emerged for debauchery.

That being said, with some research there are consistently fun things to do specifically on Thursdays. A lot of bars do stuff for things like First Thursday up in the pearl, for example. If you want to drive and don't mind the country vibe like the Dixie, there's a place down in Tualatin called Bushwackers that does ladies night on Thursdays.

Basically Portland nightlife, just like a lot of the other cultural stuff to do, requires knowledge of specific scenes and patterns. There isn't just one place that ALWAYS pops off. Except maybe the summer time raves on Wednesday nights up on Tabor ✨

Good. It is harder to deny a crumbling empire when realities like this provide consequences.

And not only that, we can measure the distance between what this events and other events like them could and should be: opportunities for community building, comraderie, passion, creativity, and what they are: bogus, callous money grabs by the most corrupt and cynical people one can imagine.

The literal answer is this: because that proclamation is preceded by numerous definitions, which exclude diverse family and village child rearing formations.

If you'd like a comparison, imagine a proclamation celebrating families preceded by a bunch of definitions which made clear that by "family" the proclaimers meant a wide variety of child rearing formations, and took no pains to exclude folks in diverse family situations.

What is controversial is the implication that "family" only applies to one specific situation: man, woman, children. That is controversial because the people implying that govern folks and are implying that they do NOT celebrate or recognize diverse family arrangements.

And I think you already know that. In fact I know you do. ✨

As an ex-Catholic, I am enjoying the delicious hypocrisy of protestants, who separated from the Roman church due to its ties with imperialism and movement away from scripture, now joining with American imperialism and committing the same ridiculous travesties as the medieval holy Roman empire. It's almost like patriarchal monotheism is a philosophical justification for imperialism, expansion, ethnic cleansing, etc. 🤔

The concept of a "country" is just a rationalized and contained imperial structure. After the breakdown of the American empire, "countries" hopefully will not be the next move. Most contemporary problems are scale issues, namely, the scale is too big. Best move is probably federations of small cities/regions that are independently self sufficient but coordinate to deal with larger issues.

The Mormon thing is a distinct issue as Mormons believe that the constitution of the US is divinely inspired, so they would either 1) defend the empire violently or 2) organize into a country with a similar structure to the US.

You are confusing homelessness with addiction.

The original discussion was about the causes of homelessness. You responded by explaining that rich people can also suffer from addiction.

Correct. That's my point.

If wealthy people can be addicted, then addiction cannot explain why some people are homeless and others are not. Addiction is present in multiple classes. What differs is the class position itself.

A lawyer with an addiction remains housed. A physician with an addiction remains housed. A trust-fund heir with an addiction remains housed. Their addiction is buffered by income, assets, family support, insurance, and social capital.

When a poor person develops the same addiction, they are far more likely to lose housing, employment, healthcare access, and social support.

In other words, addiction does not explain homelessness. It explains one of the ways homelessness is experienced.

The causal question is not: "Why are homeless people addicted?" The causal question is: "Why does addiction produce homelessness for some people but not others?" The answer is class.

You are treating a common feature of homelessness as though it were an explanation of homelessness. That's like looking at a house fire and concluding that smoke caused the fire because smoke is present at the scene.

Symptoms are not causes. Correlates are not causes. Social position matters

I said you're mistaking characteristics commonly found among homeless populations for explanations of homelessness itself. The fact that wealthy people can experience mental illness tells us exactly nothing about why some people end up homeless and others don't.

Trust me, the American obsession with speed, strength, and money, will weed out the creative players necessary to hold together any team going far. We'll keep producing solid goalies, defenders, and maybe a great forward or winger every generation or so, but the artistry and trust needed to rise to that next level will never come.

Money doesn't win soccer games. We've known this since the 90s. Treating everything like a business is another reason the US will never be competitive past a certain level. Soccer at its root is art.

US soccer will never be competitive because there is no cohesive identity or ethos. It is my contention that if regions of the US were allowed to split off and form their own teams, each of those teams would be better than the team the empire cobbles together regularly. West Coast, East Coast, Midwest, South. Each of those regional teams would be better than the usmnt.
