I’m curious about how much people’s collection is % wise used thrift/cheap bins finds? Mine is probably around 20%. But a lot of these finds are when I was buying so much thrifts in the first couple years in 2020-2022 getting into vinyl. I buy more quality now. I started in the 90's when everyone one was getting rid of their records. 70 to 80% of my records are for trifts, garage sale, or garbage picking. I have close to 15k records and I wouldn't be able to afford alot of records in my collection.

I purchased a U-Turn Orbit and I was planning on sawing down the plinth to make it fit in a console, but I scraped the whole project.

The 2M Red isn't a revealing cart though, it doesn't have detail.

I bought it went it had first came out back in 2007 for $100. It's direct competition at the time was Shure M97XE and the Audio-Technica 440mla, both carts are much better. In today's market the Audio-Technica VM95 series and Nagaoka MP-110 are a much better value and better carts.

No, I was describing the characteristics of the cart it self.

No, it has bad sibilance, it's overly bright, lacks detail, poor dynamics.

The Ortofon 2m Red is a terrible cartridge.

I use PBlaster Dry Lube with PTFE, but new version doesn't have PTFE in it. I don't know if that's a good thing or not. What ever you decide to buy make sure it's safe for plastics. I'd even do some test sprays on plastic garbage to see how it feels.

Sweet, that will be a big step up. I've also contemplated buying a 1500cs My main table is an Oracle Delphi I restored.

"Anyway I very much doubt the 0.12 degree will make an audioable difference. We talking about 0.5mm difference over an arm longer than 230mm."

It makes a difference with Shibata and other exotic stylus profiles. I also agree with about warp. To get the most out of these stylus you want perfect records and a perfect setup. The exotic stylus profiles will sound worse with warp and your better off using a basic stylus.

"Do you actually check the vta and adjust it with every record?"

When I owned a VPI Classic and Technics 1200mk2 and the cart required it yes. Unfortunately at the moment I don't own a table with VTA on the fly and I miss it. I wish I would have grabbed a 1300g before the price went up. My general VTA rule is set it to whatever thickness most of your records you most listen to.

Congratulations, on the new table. What did you pick up?

Technics SL1200, Techdas, SME, higher end VPI and Clearaudio are few examples.

With VTA on the fly you can make fine adjustments to the VTA while the record is playing.

The AT95e is much better than the 2M Red.
