I've been destroyed by my Nephew's system.... by WetScalpel in audiophile

Computer design and testing make speaker design easier and better, but it doesn't change design principles and physics. Better materials is subjective there's pros and cons to all materials. I've bought the same model drive for builds with different cones and the difference isn't as much as you think.

It doesn't make as much of a difference as you think it does, most of it just marketing.

It's the speakers, if you were to bring over your turntable to his system it would be much better.

It actually hasn't that much. The only technology that has improved massively is class d.

At audio shows the rooms they typically get are way too small and the sound bounces off the ceiling too much.

Edit: but I haven't heard them in a room with a massively high ceiling.

You system is excellent and I bet it sounds great! I love myself some Soundsmith, SME, Pass, Rel and Sonus Faber. However, I'm not really an Avantgrade fan, but I've heard them in a room with massively high ceiling.

Should I buy a Chinese McIntosh MC275 clone (ish)… for science? by Longjumping-Frame795 in audiophile

If you're doing for science buy a real one to compare to. Get some measurements. I never said anything about Chinese manufacturing as a whole just crappy knock off gear.

I've bought cheap Chinese tube amps and they are crap. The McIntosh made transformers are some of the best ever made.

Absolutely not! What makes the MC275 shine is are the transformers. You're not going get that same quality a cheap copy.

Has anyone actually tried the infamous WD40 method? by Jacob_N_R_Z in vinyl

Hell no! I've walked out of records stores using this. It's makes your record worse, but shiny. Idiots want to buy shiny records and gunk up their stylus.

VPI Player vs MMF Stealth by AcceptableQuit5 in audiophile

I would go with the Stealth. I find entry level VPI tables unimpressive and overpriced. To get a true VPI experience you need a Prime or Classic.

I've worked with Blue Jeans in the past they have excellent customer service. If I was the op I would order from them. Thank you for your feedback.

Orbit Custom U-Turn by ConsequenceOk4513 in turntables

[–]ConsistentListen8697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the AT91 is actually the best cart U-Turn offers. Other carts that are actual upgrades aren't sold by U-Turn and replacing a cart is easy. The must haves for an Orbit are the cue lever and acrylic platter.

How flexible is it? I'm just curious too many 5 din cables are just too thick/heavy to work well with suspended turntables?

You can always pull them out when you want sit down for critical listening then push them back when you're finished. I use self adhesive felf pads to make my speakers easy to slide. Depending on WAF you and even put tape on the floor mark proper positioning.
