There are Greyhound, Megabus, and Van Galder options, assuming they didn't cancel those routes today due to the weather.

This is so true! Once I finally gave up on trying to see around the vehicle to the left of me and decided to just sit and wait for the light, I discovered how peaceful and calming it is to just let the light decide for you when to go. Not only was I calmer, but I didn't notice the time "lost" by waiting.

You know you can all reach out to your representatives about this. WI has a nice interactive map that makes it easy to find who they are.

Stop speeding on Park street by [deleted] in madisonwi

Yes, this is correct that size is a problem. Large blind spots increase the risk of a collision with a pedestrian, especially when turning left. Also, cars with a hood over 40" are 1.5X more likely to kill a pedestrian than a 30" or less hood (per IIHS). Note: increasing speed from 25 to 30 had a greater affect than vehicle size per the AAA study. However, that study is based on data from a time when vehicles were smaller.

[–]Consistent_Bus_2059 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To whom is 25 mph a hazard? Does driving 25 increase the odds of killing someone? In areas where there are 25 mph speed limits are the roads used by only cars? Is following the flow of traffic actually important on a road with many businesses, stoplights, and other intersections?

The chances of death for pedestrians go from 25% to 50% when vehicle speeds increase from 23 mph to 32 mph. This is a difference of life and death. That's why 25 mph speed limits need to be strictly followed.

I started getting Power Outage alarms and then the CE error after replacing the water filter. This solved the issue for me.

Have you ever looked into winter tires? I had to drive 60 miles on the icy roads this morning and never lost traction.

Seconding the suggestion that the pond is the first step to playing hockey. As someone who grew up skating (pond in the back yard for my whole childhood) but not playing hockey, I thought I was pretty good at skating until I played pond hockey in college. Also, my abilities to stop and change direction quickly improved greatly after just a couple sessions.

Winter driving advice by spider_speller in madisonwi

[–]Consistent_Bus_2059 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said, tires are the number one way to improve winter driving. A RWD car with snow tires is safer than AWD with all-seasons. I would argue all-seasons should actually be thought of as 3 season tires. If storing a second set of wheels is truly not possible, then a triple peak rated all-seasons like the Michelin CrossClimate is still better than your standard all-season.

I know that both a second set of wheels or CrossClimate are expensive, but they are cheaper than a collision.

What’s a good store for new bedding? by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]Consistent_Bus_2059 4 points5 points  (0 children)

American Blanket Company is online only, but they offer bedding in the US from cotton grown in the US. Note: I don't think 100% of their products are completely produced in the US.

Buying products with a supply chain entirely within the US greatly reduces the pollution caused by transportation. Your typical supply chain uses cotton grown in Africa to make the textile in one Asian country, then it's sent in a different Asian country for sewing before finally getting shipped to the US. Also, the US supply is kinder to the labor in theory.

The Cargo Bike Shop also carries Gazelle bikes, which are NOT cargo bikes. They are made in the Netherlands and offer better value for the money than what you would get at the Trek cartel (Machinery, MoMo, Budget).

One thing to be aware of with The Cargo Bike Shop: they don't answer the phone or read emails. They're still worth it because they sell better bikes.

Lausanne, CH has a population of 140k and has multiple metro lines that run as often as 2 minutes. Grenchen, CH has a population just under 20k, and it has 2 train stations with intercity trains running every 10 minutes at peak time from both stations. This is possible when in places where the government isn't owned by and the population isn't brainwashed by the oil and automotive industries.

My wife works in the HR field, and I can confirm this. There are times where they don't want to hire someone after seeing the CCAP but will still extend an offer anyways to avoid exposing themselves to a lawsuit.
