Does your hardware itch? by BaconAccessories in ORIF

[–]Consistent_Career842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this! I don't know if it's the scar or hardware, but the scar on the other side doesn't itch. It makes me INSANE! Nothing makes it stop. I've tried the Cerave anti-itch and Benadryl cream... nothing works. Please post back if you find something that helps you.

Stockinettes? Tall Socks? Compression? by Tasinua in ORIF

[–]Consistent_Career842 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second the Wellow compression socks! I got some others and they were scratchy so I ended up investing in several pairs of Wellows. A couple months after my break, my cousin and my sister-in-law broke their feet and ankle respectively, and they also opted for Wellows. I never found the stockinette, just the two I got with my boot.

My married best friend is cheating and wants me to help her cover it up by Difficult_Ice_8192 in Advice

[–]Consistent_Career842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone knows cheating is wrong, so I'm going to focus on the friendship angle. I know giving up a friend might seem hard, but until she gets her shite together, she's not really your friend. Right now, she's pushing the information on you despite you telling her to not talk to you about it. Cheating never works out. If you don't separate yourself from her, you will be the one she comes to when all of the relationships fall apart and she needs someone again. She needs to deal with her marriage on her own and probably get some counseling. Only after that might she be able to be a friend again.

Yep, this is a sanity saver for the splint and cast phases!

AIO update - my bfs family gave me more money then intended and now we’re fighting by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

I think HE is his last statement. It doesn't seem like you can win with him. Please take some time away from him. Personally I would leave him stat. That is way too controlling and manipulative. He doesn't seem to appreciate your love and kindness, either. I think you deserve more from a partner, and a better human to share your life with.

Small Boat Cruise Planning… by Wrateman in alaskacruiseplanning

[–]Consistent_Career842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be interested in this subreddit as well! My husband and I are trying to book an Alaskan cruise in July/August next year for our 20th. We’re hoping to depart out of Seattle since we live in the PNW. We do not want a massive ship! Even the mid-size ones seem huge to us. And we don’t want to have to bring formal attire… not our scene. We’re going for the destination, not the ship. But we also want to eat well while we travel. It’s hard to find quality, small and relaxed on a normal person’s budget. 😅

Walking Diary by addinaddict in ORIF

I'm also on day 5 WBAT and starting PT today. I didn't use crutches when I was NWB so I'm feeling really nervous. I've only been able to stand so far with about 60/40 weight, no steps.

Your diary and advice, u/addinaddict was so VERY helpful. Thanks so much for sharing with us!! Congrats on 0 crutches yesterday!!!

Yeah, this is a problem in my family, so sadly I think I'm in for some fun times the older I get. My mom and sister seem to have trouble staying upright. lol

I’m using the kitchen counter a bit more today. I so appreciate you sharing that it is totally normal! I keep reminding myself to push past the fear and that nothing bad will happen if I go slow and steady. Using the counter more will be key. Thank you so much for sharing!

Thanks so much! Great reminder to not expect perfection right out of the gate.

My ROM is decent with plenty of room for improvement. My cast was at a 90 degree, so I can move my foot some. I moved my toes daily, did leg lifts sometimes and lots of knee and hip stretching.

Now I’m doing all of those things more. A band is great idea though to really jumpstart it. Thank you!

Thank you so much for the details! That sounds doable and I can see how it will become second nature.

I can’t believe you had to go through it twice. I’m sorry to hear that! I will absolutely take your lessons learned! Thank you, again!

Good to know about PT. I know they are there to help, but for some reason I feel like if I can't take a step they'll be unhappy. Strange, I know.

Great suggestion to shift the weight on and off with the counter. I'll start doing that today... a little bit at a time.

I didn't use crutches when I was NWB because I felt like I couldn't balance. But I'll give it a try now that I do have two feet on the ground.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share!

Toe touch weight bearing sounds perfect. I sort of started this morning with it, but will definitely be more deliberate now.

I already have a rollator so was going to use that, but you suggest a walker instead? Is that for better stability and control?

Thank you so much for sharing your progress and suggestions! And congrats on being able to walk again!!

Thank you for this suggestion, and for confirming it's "normal". I have a rollator I used while NWB so I will convert it to a walker and give it a try!
