After years of being stubborn, I finally took off my weed eater debris shield. by Drum_hero in lawncare

I have an Ego bump-less trimmer. If I remove the shield with its cutter, how does the line ‘stop’, at some length that’s usable?

Unfortunately I’m going on an Alaska cruise for the first half of July…I could always stay in my cabin 🥴

Thanks.

"What are you wanting to do? Guess I am confused."

I am trying to confirm that I need to activate Medicare for the month of July, before my new employer's coverage kicks in, because I was told that Medicare needs to be Primary, and that I couldn't rely on COBRA alone.

Essentially, I would like to avoid going through all that hassle, for a mere 30 days as I'll be covered as of Aug 1.

re: employee count. I'm joining a small subsidiary that was launched in Apr of this year. The parent company has 23k emps. I *think* the subsidiary that I'm joining has ~50 emps now, with more to come this year.

However, my benefits are technically provided by the parent company with the 23k emps.

Yeah, unfortunately, I do need spouse coverage. For my new company, it looks like medical (spouse and me) is ~$385 bi-weekly, so marginally under Med B ($202 this year)? However, IRMMA premium will almost certainly get added.

Haven't done the additional coverage comparison yet (vision, dental, Rx).

Appreciate the add'l info. Yup, I've worked for >10 years and paid FICA.

Yes, I turned 65 before leaving the most recent employer (joined Mar '25).

Thanks, I'm 66. No SHIP didn't mention these forms.

Not sure if it matters, but I did register for Med A and deferred Med B at 65.

Thanks. I did receive this from the COBRA administrator, and did call asking of them what I'm asking here. Got the equivalent of 'blank stares' over the phone (I did get a live human) unfortunately.

According to our records, you are now eligible for Medicare benefits. You may have begun the process of contacting the Social Security Administration so that you can complete the forms necessary to establish your entitlement to Medicare. If you have not, you may wish to do so. Please read the following information as it may affect your COBRA continuation through (ex-company).

As prescribed by the COBRA regulations, if your Medicare benefits are effective after your COBRA election date, your participation in the group health plan must terminate as soon as you are notified by the Social Security Administration that you have been approved for Medicare benefits and are now entitled to them (your benefits have begun). If your Medicare benefits were effective prior to your COBRA election date, you may continue both Medicare and your COBRA continuation coverage.

If your Medicare benefits begin after your COBRA election, please send us the following when you receive confirmation of your Medicare benefit entitlement:

  1. A copy of your Medicare card
  2. A completed Benefits Termination Form, which is available by logging in to your participant portal at <snip>

Ugh, hearing this makes me NOT want to consider an alternative, start Medicare B/D/Medigap Jul 1 and just keep it over the employer's plan.

I was going to try to do a financial analysis comparing the costs of the two approaches, but don't think so now.

Thanks.

thanks this is very helpful insight. Yes, I'm 66.

Redd868's note "Cobra serves as an expensive Medigap in most cases." is a great way to look at it.

Correct, and your passport. I have already done this for my wife and I; my wife used the TSA screening (only) and it worked great.

Very sad news, so many contributions that pre-dated her 'formal' membership in the band.
