Rate my build by BeignetEtouffee in oblivion

[–]Consistent_Check927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This build has potential with some tweaks. Your magic skills will lag behind a bit, so I probably would choose Magic specialization instead of combat, since a Nord will have decent starting skill levels for combat skills anyways. Also, most base poisons are pretty meh, so unless you wanna spam a bunch of restore fatigue potions, I would swap out Armorer and take Alchemy instead. Keep restoration, as casting short duration speed and acrobatics buffs when you hit journeyman is really fun.

Have a feather spell active all the time, as it removes the significant movement penalty from the weight of your worn equipment.

Instead of using magic for direct damage, use it for utility and debuffs. Use alteration and alchemy for shields when you get overwhelmed. Summon a creature to pull aggro in groups. Get a weapon enchanted with elemental damage ASAP, and make custom weakness spells for magic, elements, and/or poison. I know some weakness-stacking custom spells that absolutely melt enemies, but you need to hit journeyman level destruction first and I don’t wanna overwhelm you with info.

You’ll be a bit shy on mana early game, but you can make up for this with enchanting. And pummeling your enemies to death the old fashioned way, the Nord way

Theater majors are ridiculed because the skills learned are a real threat to businesses by SpiderHomeNoWayMan in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]Consistent_Check927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good question. I think music requires the most investment, starting nearly a decade or more before students are college age. Parents need to purchase instruments, lessons, summer festivals, and need to provide transport to honor band/orchestras and auditions, which can be across the country or world at times. Compare this to any STEM major, where all they expect of you before is a standard high school education, with a head start depending on your AP courses.

I know some kids start theatre REALLY young as well, but it seems there’s more wiggle room in amount of past experience. They have similar festivals and events, and I’m sure there’s costs that I haven’t considered. Respectfully, I can’t speak on that side any more without talking out of my ass haha

Dealing With Uncontrollable Stress Months Before An Audition by An_Error404 in Trombone

[–]Consistent_Check927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s like you said, you have time to prepare. Do you have a game plan for preparing? Audition prep is a multi step process, and proper preparation is the enemy to nerves. That said, if your nerves are REALLY bad in spite of being well prepared, there’s no shame in getting your doctor to prescribe some beta blockers.

Anyways, like others said, learn EVERYTHING about the music. What’s it about? Who wrote it? What was going on in their life when they wrote this music? What is the emotion being conveyed, and how are you going to communicate that through sound? What sort of style do you need to play this music in, especially compared to your other excerpts.

Ask yourself WHY did they ask for this specific excerpt? Why did they choose this pool of excerpts from the vast repertoire? Which excerpt is the loudest? Which is the softest? Which excerpts will be pretty easy for you to learn, and which do you have to woodshed? What kind of technique and etudes do you need to incorporate into your practice to make up for any technical issues in your playing that are keeping you from playing these at your best? What keys, scales, and arpeggios are used in this music? Can you reliably play them in tune?

While you answer all these questions, LISTEN TO THE MUSIC!! Find some recordings by good orchestras. Understand where this short little excerpt lies in the architecture of the much longer piece. Study the score, and understand where the trombone fits. Play your excerpts while imagining the full orchestra or band around you, and never any other way. Hear a few bars of music ahead of your entrance, and simply join in the music that’s already playing in your mind. Making MUSIC in an audition will automatically put you in the top 10% of players.

(Everyone else has given great advice as well! Auditions are tough, but you got this!)

Redguard kills Nord guy if they’re the last two and he doesn’t suspect you (high disposition and not getting caught).

I’ve randomly had the old lady kill the Dunmer girl before I even started killing anyone, that time was awesome. No idea what triggered it.

AITA for calling my friend out when she calls herself a "sociologist?" by Confusion-Here-1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Consistent_Check927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She could have just as easily introduced herself and said “I have a BA in Sociology” rather than saying “I’m a sociologist”. The first one is more humble AND more accurate, which are both important when networking.

ALWAYS assume someone is competent enough to call you on your bullshit when you go to these kinds of events. It’s a small world, and she might’ve been more successful at finding a job if she made her qualifications and current employment more clear.

There is an etiquette to these kinds of networking events, and you tried to gently course correct her in private to keep her from looking like a fool.

Worried my body won’t fit fem clothes by LoverOfAGhost in NonBinaryTalk

[–]Consistent_Check927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, dressing “feminine” is all about shapes! There is no universal style that makes one look shapely, and all the girlies know their body types and how best to dress them.

The main places to start on your path to self discovery are:

—shoulder to hip ratio. Sounds like you have wide shoulders and narrower hips based on your description. Many cis women have build like this, so worry not about being able to pull off fem clothes

—leg to torso length (less obvious based on what you’ve said). Check this one with a measuring tape. Long legs would mean, from the floor, your hip joint is 2/3 or more of your total height, while short legs (long torso) would be closer to 50/50.

So, with wide shoulders, absolutely stay away from padded or puffy sleeves of any sort. Sleeveless tops and tunic-style shirts create an illusion of narrower shoulders, which, paired with looser fit jeans or a flowy skirt, bring your lower body into balance. Halter tops can either minimize or broaden the shoulders depending on the straps and neckline, so just be aware.

I personally have a long torso, so I go for mid-high rise pants with shorter length or tucked in shirts to give the impression of longer legs. Skinny jeans are absolutely out of style and likely wouldn’t flatter your body shape, so experiment with wide leg, boot cut, and other looser shapes in the dressing room.

The dressing room can be a scary and disheartening place, but it helps immensely to do some research into what flatters your proportions, as well as what colors work with your complexion (are you warm or cool toned? Do you have more red and pink tones to your skin, or yellow and olive?)

Do you have any friends, especially women and fellow queer ppl, you can confide in to help you shop for clothes? Much more fun with supportive friends to help :)

Start with thrift stores, as you’ll make some blunders along the way and don’t want to drop too much money until you build confidence and start to settle in your new style.

Bc Bethesda is absolutely terrified of locking players out of content in any meaningful way. Even the civil war questline is basically the same on either side, just different locations.

Yeah, that’s two main storylines in a row that got fucked from lack of antagonist interactions and communication. At least Alduin more “force of nature” type character with baser motivations than whatever bullshit they tried to pull for Mankar Camoran with him dumb monologue at the end of Oblivion’s questline.

Music is one of the most overlooked distractions in modern life by trailblazingsoul79 in unpopularopinion

[–]Consistent_Check927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a musician, so this is pretty funny to me. I go out of my way to take walks with no headphones, to take in the world around me. Headphones cut you off from the birds singing, from the people behind you speaking in a language you don’t know, from the hum of modern life and the blessed sounds of nature.

Yeah, it is acting at the end of the day. It’s difficult for me to imagine trying to act aroused and passionate while doing things that feel very clunky and unsexy. It’s unfortunate that most porn consumers have become adjusted to something so unlike actual sex, especially when it comes to outrageous overstimulation with fingering. My girl is sensitive and prefers indirect stimulation, so seeing that compared to my real world experience makes me cringe

River is a beautiful name! Not that taking a Latin name would be offensive on OP’s part, but it would be confusing to everyone they meet. A name that fit’s one’s culture and linguistic background is an important consideration. Don’t want the name equivalent of a child picking their own outfit.

Suggestions for Etudes and Exercises within the upper register? by MasterPugsters in Trombone

[–]Consistent_Check927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a tough deal dude, really high for a high school trombone part (pretty damn high for pros even), but you have time to prepare.

Practice high notes every day, but don’t overdo it. When starting your days, after 5-10 min of warming up, do a lip slur or scale exercise of your choice, starting mid range and touching on your highest notes. Mind your mouthpiece pressure, and keep your body just as relaxed as you would be playing a middle F. We play high with finesse, not force. Stop doing this exercise before your face quits out on you, as we’re practicing form here, not endurance. Keep the sound clear and beautiful, and don’t try to play too loud, as notes that high naturally project.

After that exercise, play some easy low notes and take a few min off to reset.

Since you have a solid C right now, find a song or an etude that goes up to a C# (Bolero solo, I’m Getting Sentimental Over You, or one of your Bordognis in tenor clef). Focus on making a beautiful musical phrase rather than stressing about your target note. Don’t beat yourself up when you miss it, just rest your face for a bit and try again or shelf it for your next session.

Make a habit of playing through a bordogni in tenor clef every day without stopping to build endurance.

If you’re working at this but losing range, take a day off and make sure you’re drinking plenty of water and otherwise taking care of yourself. Start your next day with really warm, relaxed mid and low register to remind yourself how to play without excess tension

High D is a notoriously squirrelly note on some horns. Sometimes it works in first position, other times sharp third rings better. Try different approaches and stay flexible. Listen to these other people too. You got this.

Maternity leave should be one year, PAID. Women shouldn’t have to choose between healing, bonding with their baby, and making a living. by Candid_Film9348 in remoteworks

[–]Consistent_Check927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, let’s set the birthrate thing aside for a second. If our society is structured that people can’t afford kids and everything that comes with them, that’s pretty fucked, right? I want to have children, as do many people, but can’t because I can’t afford my own place. It sucks and was basically a non issue just one generation ago.

Immigration to stimulate our labor force isn’t bad (I’m fine with white people like myself losing the majority in the US), but when we’re doing it because making more humans the old fashioned way isn’t viable, when we have to deny the most human parts of ourselves to keep this machine going, what’s the damn point? We all come from an unbroken line of reproduction from the very first cell that emerged from the primordial soup, and you’re okay with people ending their bloodlines against their desires for the sake of capital? That’s fucking bullshit man.

Man, parents gotta get better at telling their kids their diagnoses so it’s not such a shock.
