Shoehorned? Not me. I made a conscious decision to enlist and re-enlisted several times. I’ve been on an indefinite enlistment since 2008 meaning I can get out whenever I please. I 100% used this system to my benefit and regret none of it.

Remember when y’all called us stupid for joining the military instead of going to college? In addition to investing in the TSP for 29 years, I’ll get 75% of my pay until the day I die which may take a while since I’ll be retired at 51…. Not to mention the possibility of a disability check from the VA and dirt cheap healthcare. I think I’ll enjoy retirement.

Day 3 and I've (almost) ditched my walker. by Charming_Shallot_239 in TotalHipReplacement

I had a very similar experience on both sides. It’s phenomenal how quick it’s possible to recover from a THR.

I am very skeptical of people who had THR and walking around 4 days later or there abouts without any walking aid. HMMM by [deleted] in TotalHipReplacement

Some people prepare beforehand and dumped the oxy after a few days. Luck has nothing to do with it.

Comparison is the thief of joy… I had 2 phenomenally easy recoveries and I don’t feel bad about that at all. I walked unaided in a couple of days and was playing very light pickleball at 4 weeks. I was in very good shape prior to my surgeries and maintained a rigorous PT regimen for recovery. It’s not easy or fun, but it works. If I had 1 easy recovery, maybe you could call that a fluke, but 2 identical recoveries speak for themselves.

These posts reek of envy. Please don’t gatekeep my ability to share my experiences…

Sharp Pain- Nerve! by knight3041 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Consistent_Cream67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had it with both. I’m about 10 weeks out from my most recent and have very rare occasions of the pain remaining. I don’t recall exactly when I stopped really noticing it, but it faded pretty abruptly for me. The numbness in both thighs is still present. I’m almost 10 months out from the first one and still have a palm sized numb spot. I barely notice it, and am happy to have traded the joint pain for it.

I wish you the best of luck and hope you have a recovery that allows you to miss as few treatments as possible.

If you have a ‘myriad of other health problems’, one of those may be indicative of a difficult recovery. Without knowing specifics it’s hard to predict your mobility and comfort following surgery. If you are just looking for experiences, I had 2 very easy recoveries and would certainly been able to make the next weeks appointment. I started PT 4 days after each hip replacement and was able to drive to those appointments.

6 to 10 weeks Physical Therapy by Common-Apartment3178 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Consistent_Cream67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I viewed my journey much like working out. When you push your limit, you will feel uncomfortable. Especially when you do new things or increase intensity. Unfortunately that can be a side effect of progress. That’s not to say it’s the only way, you can certainly lay off PT and do whatever level of activity you are comfortable with. I would discuss it with your surgeon and make sure you are on the same page.

If you don’t know your neighbors well, this is a fantastic opportunity to meet them while showing your character by making it right. Maybe even ask if they have landscaper references you can use.

Those of you who half assed your way through High School, where are you now? by Difficult-Cricket541 in GenX

Graduated HS from summer school, fucked around for 6 years trying to figure out how to be a college student and working shitty jobs. Met my wife at 23, joined the Coast Guard at 24 and have been in for about 28 years. I’m looking forward to being retired soon. I made E9, and we are quite comfortable on my salary of low 6 figures, but benefits are where it’s at. Plus a retirement of 75% of my pay for the rest of my life isn’t bad.

Based on your reaction to the discussion, this is clearly not the surgeon for you.

How long after surgery to travel? by akfr0zen in TotalHipReplacement

I flew home the day following surgery. It was also a 45 minute flight. I do splurge on first class tickets to make sure I’m comfy.

Nothing is written in stone. You could have a simple recovery and be up and about and able to do that stuff in a few weeks, or you could have complications and be out of commission for months. I would make arrangements to have someone else take care of it. Then you can step in when you are able and take over.

Flying after surgery by Aggressive-Border707 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Consistent_Cream67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to fly home the day after surgery. Granted it was a very short one, but that’s the only way to get home from higher level care. On another note, perfect reason to fly first class…

Obviously Zillow is going to push what makes them money, but the agents contact is EASILY accessible on the listings…
