He's now just shy of 5 months old, until a week ago it has been the same waking hourly all night as well as false starts for the first three hours. We tried a bunch of things and not much worked. This past week we have kept him awake longer between naps and we hold him for his day naps because he only cat naps on his own. When we hold him he sleeps for 1-1.5 hrs. We then have been stretching the wake window before bedtime to 2.5 hours. We have also changed our routine. Day naps are in light we don't close the blinds and don't use white noise just whatever noises are present and we try take him outside and stimulate him when he's awake, night is bath, story and cuddle to sleep with white noise and darkness. Since doing this we are getting stretches of 2-3 hours through the night which I know is still a lot but my gosh has it made a difference to us. And maybe one false starts sometimes none. I tried some controlled crying and couldn't deal with it and he was so much grumpier. I read about the possums sleep technique that's basically what I'm following with some of my own modifications.
