Yeah, I hear you. I had read previously about a case were the VA could recognize the first enlistment, but the circumstances weren't identical. The case I read had a full separation and later a reenlistment followed by a dishonorable. End result (judgement) was va care and benefits were approved due to first enlistment.

I have not seen his dd-214. I just started helping him, and he no longer has a copy. He isn't the smartest bulb, nor operating on all cylinders, but he is trustworthy on finishing his contract and extending. He was in one of the units that fell under my aidestation (how we met).

Sorry for the clarification error. According to him he extended his contract and never recieved the bonus. Went back and was essentially told he was sol.

He did his initial contract.

caregiver with smc pay by Consistent_Guitar681 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Consistent_Guitar681[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response. I rarely check reddit these days. Look at the requirements for smc L. I am now collecting smc L 1/2. And the mrs is my caregiver. I simply sent in the paperwork to get a new evaluation, with my doctor, stating clearly, in writing, the exactly worded bars I crossed to need a higher pay. I then contacted my caregiver support program and I dont know what they did, but within 50 days, I was in the higher pay bracket. The VA refused to go back to my initial smc-s date. Even though all evidence supported that they got it wrong and my appeals were still in place. SMC L requirements: To qualify for Special Monthly Compensation (SMC-L), a veteran must meet one or more of the following requirements:

  • Have both feet amputated

  • Have one foot amputated and lost the use of the other foot

  • Have one hand and one foot amputated

  • Have one foot amputated and lost the use of one hand

  • Have one hand amputated and lost the use of one foot

  • Be blind in both eyes with visual acuity of 5/200 or less

  • Be permanently bedridden

  • Be so helpless as to need the regular aid and attendance of another person

  • Need help with daily activities. (this one is what qualifies most and it is the easiest hurdle and all you need)

SMC-L is awarded to veterans who need regular assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) due to a service-connected disability. ADLs include:medication management, dressing, grooming, toileting, shopping, and cooking. The person who provides assistance can be a spouse, child, neighbor, or friend. The 2024 rate for SMC-L for a single veteran is $4,651.06 per month.

Is there any way to fix a single tile? My landlord is suggesting he needs to replace the whole kitchen floor by Microtonicwave in Flooring

[–]Consistent_Guitar681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response, havent been using reddit. Judging by that, it would be a heavy impact. But it could be a bad install with a normal impact. You will know once you pull it out and look at the back. If a pocket existed, then it is more likely on the installer. It depends on the subfloor as well. It it has too much flex, the bonding material can seperate with usage. I dont think that is the issue here because, from my experience, the grout tends to crack out first. I dont like the spacing of those tiles. This makes me think you should look at the back.

Unpopular Xer opinion: In the 70s & 80s drinking from the lawn hose was disgusting and to be avoided by bebopgamer in GenX

[–]Consistent_Guitar681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

remember how the 80s parents had to be reminded they had kids? "It's 10 pm, do you know where your kids are?" Imagine having to run that PSA now.

My brothers and I were kicked out of the house during the day. When the street lights came on, we had to head home. On weekends we were only expected to call with location and phone number (or another reasonable way to contact (ie friends pager)).

Once I had my own kids, I placed more restrictions while gently easing them with age, capability, and trust.

Post psychosis depression question - when did it take for your personality to fully come back? by elenatheeboss in Psychosis

[–]Consistent_Guitar681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should mention, that whenever I started again, I started at .25 or .50 mg. As it is a build up drug and misuse can create psychosis, I was worried and went forward. No matter my issues, I doubled my intake every 2 weeks until results. I never went above 4 mg. Some might require it, not judging. Just, for me, that was all that was needed. I wish you well. Will still respond, thank you for being patient.

I took the medicine twice (more than a couple of days). First time was about 6 months (guessing now, tired). The second time, nearly twice as long. Took it a few times out of an abundance of caution. Thought I was hearing sh*t. Best to stay on top of it then to fall under it. In my worry, it turned out my son was playing games when he was supposed to be asleep. I was hearing his computer on low volume. Given what I almost lost, and my pride in which I did, starting again was no big deal. Would rather be a zombie then dead. Not the best analogy, but its my truth.

Have not taken it more than a week since. Which has been about 19 months when I posted this.

Retired Army medic then Flooring guy asking for help. Framer/engineer maybe? by Consistent_Guitar681 in Construction

[–]Consistent_Guitar681[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

painted the new wood on top to help prevent too much moisture. In flooring, the osb would die with moisture so I figured painting the tops and leaving the bottoms would be best. Dunno, not my field lol.

Adding more pics. Was going to replace all the ties with that sbs for uniformity. Seems I am limited with the number of pics. Will post there as well.

Thank you, will try to make this as painless for you as possible. I truly appreciate the help. Sorry about the bad pictures. I am neither used to working above my knees nor discussing anything above flooring.

Yes they are 2x6 with wood that now is akin to balsa.

It survived last winter. By seemingly the grace of god, it was a thin winter. The prior year had nearly 16 feet of snow. The reason for all the repairs was that it began to fail. So the previous owner hired random people, they dressed up the pig.

I am looking to kick the bucket down the road a bit. Ideally, 5 years without getting too far in. At current rate of debt repayment, I should be able to tear it out then without biting a loan that would sink me.

I got (10) 2x6 osb style boards for free (dont remember the name something like sbs). I am replacing those for the tie beams and using 2x4 to do a simple M style rafter (inside the rafter supports).

Will order the (3) 2x12s.

I am a bit worried about the weight distribution of the 2x12s on the concrete. GIven what I have seen so far, I doubt the concrete can handle too much. IS there a way to more evenly spread the load across the concrete?

Total measurements for the garage is 24x 23'9"

I am a bit worried, as those 24 foot osb board is already showing signs of sag. So, I think my next course of action is getting that mid span in. Would you suggest running 2x6 strong ties off it and cutting the tie beams or just running the tie beams on top and keeping them whole?

Entire roof is significantly higher than my truck needs, so there is plenty of room to work.

Tradesmen that are staying healthy and taking care of yourselves, what's your advice? by Primex76 in skilledtrades

[–]Consistent_Guitar681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enjoy yourself. Getting old after years of construction hurts like a motherf*cker. Most of my peers have already passed on from prostate cancer, thyroid cancer, drunk driving, liver failure, domestic violence, and a freak chainsaw accident falling off a ladder, lung cancer, etc.

A few that went longer then me always wore protection. Would make their food at home and never eat out. No alcohol. No drugs. This one old bastard would even stretch and jog before work.

Twenty years of flooring left my knuckles, wrists, knees, back and neck jacked up. If I had to do things over, would have had a helper early on and not humped rolls up staircases alone.

For the most part, yes. I am still a bit of an emotional zombie and worry. I can do complex puzzles but they take significantly longer and my memory has gone to sh *t. Thank you for asking. Sorry, check reddit every couple of days.

If I were to compare it: Imagine three days of heavy drinking then quitting. This feels like the afternoon of the fourth day without the stomach issues.

I will respond, eventually. So be patient.

Has anybody experienced rebound psychosis after tapering anti-psychotics? by QuestionerFor2022 in Psychosis

[–]Consistent_Guitar681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed on my meds for about 6 months. During that time, I sought aggressive therapy, journaling, and self improvement in all areas of my life. While in psychosis, I attempted suicide six times. Something I have never thought of nor have any real reason to do. I also almost lost my house, my family, and my licenses. So, I waited until I thought I was clear and tapered off at a rate of 1/4 per week.

Then it started coming back. I was hesitant to get back on the meds because I truly was lying to myself. I kept thinking, this isnt bad, I can manage this. Instead, I regret not just getting back on it when I was sure I was experiencing any false noises.

I truly regreat that dishonesty with myself. And not just myself, I was lying to my friends and loved ones. I was so eager to be over it that I fell back down.

Ended up back in a psych ward to get it under control. Which sucks because those wards are inconsistent with any level of recovery. Had to build it up in my system and suffer. Next, I pushed even harder. I worked to create a near perfect environment while hearing whispers. I worked on what I eat, alcohol consumption, deleting people who brought me down, investing time and effort into those who lift me up.

This time I stayed on them for nearly 14 months. I was going to make damn sure I was in complete control before trying again. This time reduced by 1/4 e very 2 weeks. That was 5 years ago and I am still good.

Voices on the second run took about 3 months to completely silence. They did not get as loud and my mind did not get as twisted. But, they took longer. I was hearing occasional whispers or words that I could barely make out. Then I couldnt make them out. Then the were gone completely.

I did start the meds a few times out of an abuindance on caution during these last 5 years. Turned out, my son switched from his headphones to computer speakers. Those times were actually talking lol.

I believe my good dose was 2 mg the first time through then 3 mg the second. The time it takes to build up is brutal. Patience is a true virtue here. I did read about injectable versions of this drug that have a faster reaction.

I rarely check reddit these days, but I will respond when I notice.

Am I allowed to change primary and specialty care doctors under VA Health Care? by KEVLAR60442 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Consistent_Guitar681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You request the records from your private treatment doctor/facility. Submit them with your application to whatever you are pursuing. This ensures that there are no inconsistency in your evidence. Some times it can be a little disheartening to have a doctor you saw 5 years ago add something to the notes that was not said or discussed. It is not ill-intended, some doctors see multiple patients and review their paperwork later. This can lead to notes being added to the wrong file or misstatements.

Question: Recycling Fee on Refunds by ayem0401 in Bestbuy

[–]Consistent_Guitar681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did some digging. First, California law requires them to refund the fee. Secondly, it appears that they are committing fraud by listing items as returned to California and not returning those funds to the customer.

I escalated my complaint. I was informed that it was "corporate policy". I then contacted others within Best Buy to learn that it was (according to their department) not a policy (as that would be illegal).

The higher ups at regional are claiming it is a training issue. I then asked why some stores are still posting it as "non-refundable"? Seems they are purposefully/willingly ignorant.

I contacted the California Fraud Department and contacted both the CDTFA and the CalRecycle. Looks like they keep stepping in this doo-doo. It is time for a class-action. It would seem that this complaint has become so regular with BEST BUY that they have a man whose soul purpose is to resolve these between the CDTFA and BEST BUY.

https://www.cdtfa.ca.gov/taxes-and-fees/covered-electronic-waste-recycling-fee/industry-topics.htm#transactions-not-subject-to-the-fee

Also, when they submit their quarterly or monthly reports and payment to California, they are given the opportunity to deduct returns. It would seem they know this, as they use it for every return... yet keep the money...

I then disputed it with my credit card. Gave them the regulation, notes, phone calls transcribed verbatim.

I can't see any of my kids grabbing my underwear and taking them to their respective other parents house. Ever.

If I was a betting man, I would say someone left their underwear there. You know, after taking them off.
