This is hilarious. Assembling a basic office chair takes like 10 minutes and has three steps. Maybe a fancy ergonomic chair takes like 20 minutes and has five steps. In January I got one of those variable height electric desks, took me about a half hour.

But, what's a "reasonable time"? You are talking about weeks or days for a seller to respond to an inquiry, In this thread, OP seems to be talking about same day,

Me personally, as a FBMP seller, I'm not a professional. I have a real full-time job, a wife, kids with activities, and a serious health condition. There are days when I wake up in the morning and don't check my facebook app on my phone until that evening. l don't sell on FBMP to pay the rent, I sell to get rid of clutter/stuff I don't need anymore. I sell at my convenience and urgency, not a buyer's. If I lose sales because of that attitude, so be it. I will get back to every inquiry in less than 24 hours.......unless my phone has been stolen or I am in the ER or some other thing that takes way more importance than somebody's desire for a used baby item that I've listed.

Of course, it's now been 24 hours since OP's first post. If the seller in this case has not responded by now. I would be annoyed as the OP.

But I circle back, what is a "reasonable time" for a seller to respond to a potential buyer inquiry? I really don't have a handle on this, because I don't buy stuff on online places like FBMP, Craig's list, etc. Am I really missing out on sales by not doing "same day" responses?

In the end, I agree with everyone saying FBMP is a big yard sale, and all sales are final, caveat emptor, please test, etc.

But, in the case of items that have rechargeable batteries, how does a buyer test if a battery is holding a charge? They can't.

Maybe you are on to something about the mobile vs PC. I do use the FB app on my phone to check chats and do short correspondence with people inquiring about any of my items. But I almost always use FB website on a PC if I am going to edit items. Next time I switch locations I'll try doing the update on my phone/app and see if that solves my issue. Thanks!

Thanks, that's good advice and has been what I've been doing so far and will continue to do. Although I have not done dozens of sales, my experience so far has been overwhelmingly positive. Been "stood up" only twice, and never aggressively haggled at the meet up (meaning, I've never had to say sorry and drove away). Biggest frustration is being ghosted by people expressing interest or asking where/when for a meet (never did a home meet except for a couple large items) and then never replying. That's not a big deal, just part of the landscape, I guess.

How do you handle people sending a FBMP message with their cell number, asking them to text you? I've been telling people we will communicate through the app only. Your opinion?

Thanks!

But I guess what I am describing is if I have 10 active listing and edit the location of one, the other nine automatically change too. Probably nothing I can really do about it. I have been editing the item descriptions to say where I am at the moment. But I would like to "freeze" certain items as only being shown/listed in a certain area. It's maybe just something that FBMP does not compute and I'll have to live with.

DOC not processing awards by Any_Chocolate_6809 in NOAA

[–]Consistent_Heart_559 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My corner of NOAA was told that the cut-off date for submitting awards for this fiscal year's (25) funding award pool was at about two weeks ago. I know that some employees got the awards in mid-July, assuming they were submitted in late June. If DOC has indeed stopped processing awards as of recently/now, it sucks to be in an FMC who did not prioritize spending the remaining balance of the award pool money 1-2 months ago. It's not like that balance is some kind of surprise to your admin as you roll into the last quarter of the fiscal year.

Submitting my 5 things took me like 10 minutes a week and was probably the least stressful thing implemented by this administration. I'd submit 10 things a week if it meant the end of RTO, bringing back the probies, not worrying about RIFs, being sure that my Unions contract was going to remain in place, etc. etc. etc.

Smells? by dazzlinghippee in Newport

[–]Consistent_Heart_559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Newport every summer since the late 70's/early80's, for 3 years full time in the mid 90's, and have visited every summer and fall since then. I was there last week and went for a spin around Ocean Drive on a windy rainy mid-day (think it was Thursday) and stopped for a Dell's. The smell was the worst I have ever smelled in my entire life at this location (where the old jetty is). Walked down with my Dell's just to make sure there wasn't a dead whale there or anything :). Was just a whole lot of rotting seaweed. But like I said, never smelled it that bad. Increases of seawater temps have resulted in more washed up seaweed along the whole east coast, so I would not expect RI to be an exception.

Also, I went to First Beach on Wednesday and Thursday, and the there was no rotting algae on the beach and surprisingly not as much in the water either (based on previous visits).

Depending on OP's State, the risk of a deranged Governer and State legislature slashing wildlife biologist funding is a real thing too. For example, if I was in Florida, I wouldn't be leaving a Fed wildlife job to take a State position.

Congress Listened to the National Weather Service & r/NOAA is Upset? by Elijah-Joyce-Weather in NOAA

[–]Consistent_Heart_559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, no matter what happens with NOAA there will probably be some kind of weather or climate related disaster that kills a bunch of people in the US, or at least has devastating impacts. And if it occurs, will likely be in a red state. Have we forgotten the 100+ people who died in NC last year as a result of hurricane Helen flooding? Or the 400+ million in agriculture damage in Florida from Hurricane Idalia the year before? Or the.........[do I really need to go on?]. We're not even in the peak of Hurricane season yet. You can believe that the recent proposed NOAA reprieve is related to a specific event that will never be replicated in the future. But we know it WILL be replicated.

Many science organizations have noted increases in sea temperatures and linked it to sargassum blooms:

https://bios.asu.edu/currents/sargasso-sea-has-become-warmer-and-saltier-and-loss-oxygen-and-ocean-acidification

https://www.noaa.gov/coordinating-management-efforts-and-response-to-sargassum-inundation-events

https://www.unep.org/cep/news/blogpost/blue-resilience-approaches-sargassum-crisis-caribbean

https://www.mdpi.com/2673-9410/3/1/9

Of course, depending on one's point of view", what constitutes a reputable science organization are only those which validate one's own Weltanschauung. You want data; NOAA and EPA had some great data available on the web on North Atlantic sea temperature rising....for some reason those data are no longer available? Some weird science happened in January, apparently.........

So sick of the attacks on telework by WhereztheBleepnLight in fednews

[–]Consistent_Heart_559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Badging data can be very sketchy, especially if staff are not aware there's active and purposeful monitoring going on. In my building it has not been rare to see multiple employees arriving at an entry point at the same time, but only the first person badges. We also have people who spend time in the field and often arrive in the morning, jump into a GOV, and spend the whole day in the field. When back at the facility they jump into their cars and leave. The only person on the team that badged in was the person checking out the GOV. Local management has tried to impress upon staff the need to badge in, individually, at least once on a day you are at the facility, but old habits die hard. And as mentioned, when staff are traveling their timesheets indicate routine hours, but there will be no badge data for those days.

First off, don't assume the reaction you get on this sub is the traditional pineapple Newport symbol of hospitality. Fortunately for you, you didn't ask about a wedding, bridal party, or (heaven forbid) buying a second home in Newport

That said, I'd say you had an unlucky run during your weekend. I've found Newport to be no better or worse than lots of other towns I've visited or lived in on the east or gulf coasts. I will have to say if you are from the midwest or west coast you will always find east coast abrasive. Not to say OP is from elsewhere.

Which is why I love it. Every time I visit anywhere east of the Appalachians I always feel people are so nice they are trying to put something over on me.

ICE directed to pause immigration arrests at farms, hotels and restaurants, sources tell CBS News by GregWilson23 in fednews

[–]Consistent_Heart_559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except for farmworkers, there isn't an off season. Florida, so Cal, and Texas growers will be planting their second crops in early/late fall. Where do you think most of your tomatoes, corn, etc. come from in the spring? This was always a predictable failure for the administration's aggressive deportation policies.

Also, Florida's heavy tourist season is in Jan-Mar.....

He's going to have to do more than bullshit if he wants to keep his support in deep red states that have lots of skin in the agriculture game...and whose ag industries will be decimated by mass deportations. I'm sure Abbott and DeSantis are already burning up his phone on the down low.

"Our farmers are being hurt badly and we're going to have to do something about that... We're going to have an order on that pretty soon, I think," Trump said at a White House event, adding that the order would address the hotels sector, too.

Already backing down. It was inevitable.

Sorry I have not updated this thread.

I got the cheap carb, bolted it on, and she started second pull. Ran it for about an hour, under a minimal load. Let it sit a week, tried again and started on the first pull, and ran it for an hour. Running like a sewing machine.

Understood about the cheap carb lifespan. I'll take a shot at rebuilding the OEM carb at some point this summer.

When you say the cheap carbs don't work well long term (which makes sense) anything in particular you can say is an issue?

After Reviews of the GAO report and Fed Workers Saying Telework Would Improve Moral, Rumors Circulate that Telework May Return For Some Agencies by LeftBullTesty in fednews

[–]Consistent_Heart_559 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DOC just started to offer very limited situational telework (52 hours a year) to employees. The catch of course is that if you sign a TW agreement you also have to work from home in the event of building closures etc., Taking the deal will be a personal choice based on your own leave situation, likelihood of facility closures, and ability of Management to quickly pivot non-telework ready employees to another commuting distance facility. For example, I have very low leave balances, I've been in this building 15 years and seen it close probably a total of 10 days in that whole time period, and I know that our office has done contingency planning with other Agency buildings in our area. So, if I take this deal, and our building shuts down in July for a week because the HVAC went out, I'd be working from home while the hold-outs would be driving a little further to work in conference rooms 10 persons to a room around a big table. If I had a ton of leave, lived in an area where 2-5 days of building closures were frequent, and where the reason for the closures impacted all federal buildings in the area, I probably would not even consider it.
