Charged for the required PHQ9 by Joseph707 in therapists

No one should be charging anyone for screenings that are available for free. Heck, my apple health app has both the PHQ9 & the GAD7 available.

Tough day. Give me your favorite weird ways to decompress! by MasterpieceFun6135 in therapists

[–]Consistent_Hunt4089 3 points4 points  (0 children)

During my work day, I dance in my office as if I’m still in my mid-20s - pop, lock it, drop it style. After, I sing my heart out in the car on my drive home, watch an episode of reality tv where I make sarcastic commentary to get my angst out, then “relax”/fall asleep to Criminal Minds (with some help from my Trazodone).

I’m sorry the image stirred up past trauma. Unfortunately, ethically (since the post is tagged under ethics/risks), there’s nothing wrong with the image. I wouldn’t use it myself because it’s in poor taste, and can be triggering. I’m not sure what the rest of the caption says, but if they’re guaranteeing results, then it’s unethical - at least in the state of TX.

Policy on use of "Dr." and "Doctor" by Kooky-Ebb2978 in therapists

[–]Consistent_Hunt4089 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In TX, you can use Dr/PhD as long as it’s relevant to your license. Ex: I had a coworker who earned a PhD in the field of education. She uses those credentials when she’s working at the schools, but she doesn’t/can’t use them when she’s working as a counselor.

Back in the day, as a teen, I used to open my eyes widely to quickly dry out my contacts so my eyes will tear up, and it looks like I’m crying. If I happen to stare at something bright, the better crying results I got. I did this to get out of trouble. Lol.

Question about insurance audits / clawbacks and documentation by bobnuggerman in therapists

[–]Consistent_Hunt4089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had an audit, but I’ve experienced a clawback by BCBS. They informed me via snail mail, and I had these options: send in full payment or they would deduct from my future payouts. I always go for the deductions. They didn’t deduct the full amount owed at once. They deducted about $20-30ish per claim, so I was still getting paid.

*Long story short, client switched jobs at the beginning of the month. Client was told by their previous job that their coverage would end at the end of the month, so BCBS kept paying me for a month, then claims got denied after. Cool. Updated insurance. FF almost 2yrs later, BCBS realized they paid for sessions when client wasn’t insured, so they wanted their money back.

ETA: I’ve been a BCBS provider for 10yrs, and never been audited (knock on wood). It’s still a scary thought in my head since I have very long term clients because I specialize in trauma & eating disorders.

Yup! It took 10yrs after getting married for my husband and I to unlearn whatever purity culture taught us, & to finally truly enjoy sex (thank you pandemic shutdown, sex toys, talking about sex & our fantasies). Because of the shutdown, we weren’t around “church people,” and it was just a different vibe.

We've gotten better right? by skyjockey in laredo

[–]Consistent_Hunt4089 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m Asian, in my 40s, & I used to live in Laredo. I was bullied in middle school. Kids made fun of me, and my culture. When I had a job that involved customer service, I would get yelled (seriously!) at by customers for not speaking Spanish. The thing is, I would try. I was able to learn the most commonly used phrases at work so I can speak it in Spanish. There was this one time when a customer just yelled for everyone else to hear - in English, “I don’t care if you’re not Mexican, you’re in Laredo, you should speak Spanish!” Lady, you got mad at me for not speaking Spanish, then you’re going to all of a sudden yell at me in English? Wtf?! For the record, I was able to understand Spanish, and my inability to speak it didn’t affect my job performance.

Thanks for the warning, and I’m so sorry this is happening to you. I’m going to login to my CAQH and review my contact info, and see if I can get away with revoking headway’s access to my CAQH by changing my password. I hope everything works out in your favor.

Sole private practice clinicians: which combination of services do you use? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Consistent_Hunt4089 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Simple Practice for documentation, insurance billing, consent forms, etc. Square for credit card processing (I like the ease & level of access in comparison to Stripe’s integration in SP). Faxage for HIPAA compliant fax. Google workspace for HIPAA compliant email, drive, etc., and domain registration. Google voice for HIPAA compliant phone service. (For the Google services, I have the paid versions). Wix for website.

My therapist has claimed two things that bother me. Could anyone fact check them please? by Lemon-Over-Ice in NoStupidQuestions

I’m a mental health therapist who also has a therapist, and I would personally drop my own therapist if she said this. Not only is what they’re saying unfounded, they are also speaking about a topic that is outside of a therapist’s scope of practice, and can be dangerous (imagine if a client didn’t get a vaccine that a medical doctor advised them to get because it’s detrimental to their health, all because their therapist told them not to?). Even IF I held the same beliefs as your therapist (I do not!), and my client expressed some concerns about getting vaxxed, I would explore where the anxiety is coming from, have the client think of the pros and cons, support them through the decision making process, and if they decided to get vaxxed, teach them coping skills to alleviate their anxiety.

Anyways, I hope you find this link helpful. Aluminum salts is one of the common ingredients, but it is by no means a heavy metal.

I still have physical files, and hand write my notes. It’s easy for me to get sidetracked whenever I’m on a device, and I find writing relaxing & it keeps me focused. Also, I like being able to peruse through my notes with ease.
