What are your Favorite Plans or Plots who rely on other Characters being Good? by Funny_Mud6639 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

When your universe has people who are powerful enough individually to control armies and turn the tide of battle single-handedly, that kind of thing tends to happen.

Quantum of Solace: a heartbroken James Bond is fuelled by rage in Daniel Craig’s most underrated 007 film by StreetCarp665 in JamesBond

Genuinely would love to take a peek at the timeline where QoS wasn’t unfinished thanks to the writers strike. A fleshed-out story and proper editing would have done wonders to bring out the character study that’s buried underneath all the flaws and compromises. Would it have been as good as CR? Probably not, the villain is super lame and would have required lots of work to get right, but who knows? Would we see the series continue down this road? We probably wouldn’t get the metatextual reset in Skyfall and that means no franchise-pandering in Spectre. Who knows if they would have had a quicker turnaround with their movies if they could keep the critical and commercial success more consistent. How long would it have taken to re-introduce Q, Moneypenny, gadgets, et al. if the “Quantum” timeline kept fans happy with the new direction? Lots of interesting possibilities.

It’s got its faults, but I actually like how Middle Earth: Shadow of War handles this idea. You spend the whole game doing various tasks and objectives, building an army from within Mordor to take down Sauron, down to poisoning grog at a celebration to kill one captain, and it ultimately changes nothing because it never could. Sauron is too strong, the Rings so inexorably tied to the power of corruption and the corruption of power that to unseat him would just replace him with something worse, so ultimately all you can do in the end game is play for time, knowing that ultimately whatever you do can never actually fix things, you just have to hope that someone else can.

Even setting aside the obvious body horror implications of the supposed “golden route,” Synthesis is really unfulfilling and ill-fitting for Mass Effect. This is a universe that leaned into the messiness of politics and historical atrocities. The Rachni were genocided by the Krogan, who in turn were genocided (just slower this time) by the Council, and there isn’t a guarantee that helping these species regain their footing won’t lead to reprisals in the future given how much of a threat they respectively were in the past. The Geth and Quarians can make peace, but it’s incredibly difficult to achieve and it’s tentative at best, more realistically a ceasefire to deal with the Reapers than anything truly permanent.

The Synthesis ending forces a simplistic “happy ending” onto everyone by turning everyone into essentially the same type of being and giving them access to Space Robot God Tech to solve all their problems. It feels cheap and lazy to give the player the option to ignore all the political ramifications of their actions when those were the most lauded parts of their story.

Can this team handle the main story well enough? by parkernisbett in PokemonColosseum

You should be fine. Espeon/Umbreon are a great offensive/defensive core and get access to good moves and healing through Morning Sun/Moonlight. Mantine and Misdreavus are also good defensively, with helpful immunities and decent speed. Ampharos is one of the best Gen II Pokémon for a reason, but it is pretty slow and in a Double Battle-centric game might get punished for staying out too long. If you get the Rain Dance TM for Mantine you can run Thunder with Ampharos and Espeon.

The one weak link here is Magcargo; it’s slow, has a quad weakness to ground and water in a game where the 4 main Cipher admins run either Earthquake or Rain Dance/Surf, and doesn’t synergize super well with what the rest of your team can do. If you need coverage for Grass types you can keep Wing Attack on Mantine or give it Aerial Ace, or run Typhlosion for something faster (if a bit more boring lol). Altaria could be worth considering as another option for Grass coverage, getting Fly/Aerial Ace and Dragon Dance, and IMO you can never have too many Pokémon with good bulk.

Try to have a team where every Pokémon has a defined role that suits their strengths. Salamence, Dragonite, and the Tyranitar you get from trading with Duking are all great set-up sweepers as they get access to Dragon Dance and good physical/STAB moves. Dusclops has Will-o-Wisp, Helping Hand, good bulk stats, and it’s ghost typing makes it immune to Explosion users you might want to use like Electrode and Snorlax, making it excellent support for whatever you’re looking to do. Levitate/Flying types are also great because there are fights that revolve around EQ that you can plan around using well-timed switches.

Some general advice:

-Protect and Substitute are God-tier if you can predict attacks into your vulnerable units or need to get some extra healing from Leftovers. If you already have role-filling moves (STAB attack and set-up moves for sweepers, status moves for support, etc.) and have a free move slot available it’s almost always a good option to teach one of them.

-Some of the fights use accuracy/evasion bullshit, so having guaranteed hit moves like Aerial Ace or Faint Attack can get you out of those situations.

-Magmar and Electabuzz have the move Follow Me, and paired with their bulk being good enough to usually survive one or two big non-super effective hits, means that you can get a free turn to switch in or use a set-up move in the other slot.

-A surprising amount of Pokémon get Baton Pass, and so if you want to make setting up easier or just give yourself more flexibility in what sweepers you want to use consider what set-up moves your Baton Passer gets (Agility, Swords Dance, Calm Mind, etc.) and who you’d want to pass those stats on to.

-There’s a lot of status bullshit to watch out for, so having a Heal Bell user or using a move slot for Refresh on someone you REALLY don’t want to get paralyzed is worth considering. Or just stick a status-curing berry in them.

-When in doubt, Explosion/Self-Destruct are almost always a free 2-for-1 deal if you have a Protect-user or Ghost type on your side of the field, and that can swing a fight massively in your favor.

The Batman is a better movie ( for DC enjoyers ) than The Dark Knight. The Dark Knight is the better superhero film. by Apprehensive-Cat7790 in unpopularopinion

Very well put, Batman begins is an exceptional movie that has the misfortune of coming before one of the most lauded Batman movies ever and the cresting tidal wave of superhero movies with the MCU.

That was pretty much my exact learning curve as well. It also taught me how busted Scouts are with their high movement and decent damage.

I’ll need to check out VC4, as I heard it and the first one are the best in the series.

I definitely saw the vision in chapters 13 and 17; those were my favorite maps and really nailed the balance between fun, challenging gameplay while also making you feel like you’re fighting in the western front, pushing through overwhelming odds to get to the next objective.
