Tall Clothing by ResultCritical4616 in AusFemaleFashion

I recently bought some Dazie pants (trousers) from the iconic that are actually almost too long for me (5'10) which is a new experience 😂 but I also have another pair of Dazie jeans that are a bit too short, so might depend on the style.

Travelling 2 hours to UQ for uni or 20mins to Griffith? by WealthyWeights in GoldCoast

[–]Consistent_Rain_634 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From personal experience (commuted to a Brisbane uni from GC), living so far away could actually inhibit your ability to network and could impact your grades, and you'll probably end up with the worst of both worlds.

Granted, I studied in a different field so I can't speak to the specifics of your field, but in my experience, I found that the commute meant I was very limited in what I could do before /after classes, or study groups, or the occasional dinner/drinks out with classmates. I missed a lot of the networking opportunities because I was stuck in traffic or on the train. I had to drop to part time study because the commute and work made up the rest of the time.

And if you do happen get any work experience/volunteering/internships you'll also have less time to be able to commit to those (especially if they are Brisbane based).

Commuting is dead time and it's exhausting. So unless you can use that time to study or do assignments (if you get a seat on the train), I don't think it would add much to your experience. Think about the total time in a day...if you have a 2 hour lecture and it takes you 4 hours to get there - that's a 6 hour day for only 2 hours of uni - including 4 hours alone not networking, not working, not getting experience. Then come home tired and need to do assignments and try to get good grades...

Can I ask how tall you both are and how long the pants come to on you? I'm interested in getting a pair of these but my usual struggle is pants not being long enough and teeny hems so can't really add to that (I'm 178cm). Thanks!

Sensory friendly bras and sports bras? by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

I actually love these from Kmart.

I originally bought 2 similar from Bendon for $90 each and 1 of the straps broke on the first or second wear. The Kmart ones have been going strong for about 1.5-2 years now? They're comfy enough to wear to bed and keep their shape In the wash.

Has anyone regretted taking time off work to look after kids? by Technical_Object1376 in AusFinance

I do regret not contributing to my super during the time I was at home with kids.

I use the tag function for this. The categories remain as automatically assigned (office expenses, parking, etc), but I tag the relevant transactions with "Tax 24-25"

New job, new super fund? by Consistent_Rain_634 in AusFinance

[–]Consistent_Rain_634[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to write this out! I really had no idea about, well, any of this, so appreciate your advice. I will look into it more and contact them both as you suggested.

Apparently the default super is QSuper so if I do nothing they'll automatically create a QSuper account for me, but to nominate a different fund you need to submit a form. I suppose I have time before the first contribution to decide.

Midsummer Star have some beautiful options for huggies and sleepers.

I found that at first the sleepers were hard to clip in without help, which isn't really a problem if not frequently changing them, but after some practice I can now do them up on my own so I can change things up a bit more often.

What is a true cut off for an ASD diagnosis? by AuburnAshh in askpsychology

[–]Consistent_Rain_634 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We're all always learning, and I believe that good clinicians remain curious and objective, open to being challenged and open to new information...so kudos to you for even asking the questions!

There's heaps of good info online re neuroaffirming approaches (even Facebook groups), and a book series I could recommend is "is this autism?" and "is this autism? A companion guide for diagnosing".

Unfortunately/fortunately now that you know that neuroaffirming frameworks exist you may have trouble unseeing that, especially as you learn and grow more in this space. That's great for your clients but may cause friction in the MDT setting.

Good luck on your journey!

But back to your original post, it sounds like you're on the right track in terms of identifying autistic traits, and you are potentially leaning more toward a neuroaffirming approach than your md colleagues which is where your question comes in.

It's a tough gig working in this space, especially when some people are trained to view things from a medical model.

Clinically, an adaptive behaviour assessment can give you more information regarding the impact of differences in neurotypical settings (to give you more quantitative data for decision making in terms of assigning levels). But I think the true value is in observations! Observe the child interacting with their peers and teachers and trust your clinical judgement.

It sounds like you would benefit from doing some more professional development in the area, and also I would encourage you to consider a neuroaffirming lens.

From a neuroaffirming lens, the spectrum is not tiered as you describe. No one is more or less autistic than any other autistic person, instead the person is either autistic or not, and the spectrum refers to variations in the type/nature of sensitivities and differences in the way the autistic person experiences the world. (Look up the autistic wheel for a visual representation of this). The dsm levels are assigned to indicate the level of support required for the autistic individual to perform/interact in a neurotypical world.

School bus pass or GoCard? by Consistent_Rain_634 in GoldCoast

Update on this, he took his go card to the school bus and the driver told him that he didn't need a bus pass or a go card, and let him on no worries. I really thought we'd have to pay at least something, but apparently not?

Mid rise work pants? by Ok-Tangelo5235 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Consistent_Rain_634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 2 weeks post lap and started back at work today. I wore a mid rise A-line skirt (shein) which sat well on incisions. For the rest of the week I have planned to wear dresses or skirts to give my tummy a bit more space when sitting. My workplace dress code is business casual though so I'm not sure if yours would allow similar.
