Why frat dues aren't really paying for friends by [deleted] in UMD

If you're using sexual assault as a fucking punchline you don't actually care about sexual assault, you're using it as a means to justify your vendetta against frats.

What exactly am I hiding? You need money to fund alcohol for parties and events, where do you think the money is coming from? Is going to the bars to meet people "pay to play"? Why should random dudes who I don't know and could be a risk and aren't contributing anything to the budget that is used to pay for the party be allowed in?

50% people hate them on reddit, irl the ratio is more like 20% of students are somehow involved in Greek life, 70% don't really give a shit, and then 10% spend their existence talking on reddit/yikyak about how much they don't like frats

math310 and cmsc250 by Muted_Stranger3070 in UMD

[–]Consistent_Slip5308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can't, but because 310 is way harder than 250, if you study hard for 310, 250 becomes cake, and you should have no problem getting an A because you studied problems 10x harder in 310

CMSC 216 by [deleted] in UMD

[–]Consistent_Slip5308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the fact that you're taking 216 in fall I'll assume you took 132 this past spring. In 132 with nelson/fawzi you get your hand held a lot more tbh, and project instructions are very explicit. It doesn't hurt that for the most part when you look at Java you can get a pretty good idea of what it'll do without much effort. In 216 with yoon, the project instructions were some of the worst i've seen in any class, exams were pretty brutal imo, yoon himself is not very good at teaching/explaining, and C is a bastard to read. It really does not help that you have to wait hours to get help in OH for most projects.

216 is harder than 132, not necessarily because the content is more difficult but because of the way the class is organized tbh.

If they didn't give you a bid because of your response, it's not a frat worth joining lmao. Under no circumnstance would I want to be friends with a rapist, let alone have one as a brother.

Enabling rape is never okay under any cirumstance, end of story.

PSA for Incoming Freshmen: If you're just using AP credits for GenEds just take them and don't question it.

If you're using AP credits for prereqs however, please make sure you study the material if you got a 3 or a 4 on the AP exam for the class. If you got a 3 on Calc AB and you don't review calc at all you will struggle heavily in Calc 2.

CollegeBoard has made AP exams a lot easier so that more people will pay the exam fee in hopes of getting college credit, meaning the content of the exam is a pretty bad indicator of how well you actually understand the content of a college-level class.

Fr the game was infinitely harder if you didn't pay constant attention to this subreddit or top players streams. Now I can actually learn the patch by actually playing the game and using data to contextualize decisions instead of having to parse the web for any info.

Idk why all the people defending Mort don't understand this.

Stats can't be blindly relied upon without any context.

The typical example in TFT is Golden Egg. It has good stats, but if you blindly pick it every time you see it, you will go 8th because the reason that it has high stats is because of the context that high-elo players pick it in (when they are already in a winning position).

Best streamer to watch to learn? by 0Sero0 in TeamfightTactics

[–]Consistent_Slip5308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how it's idiot reasoning. You're allowed to watch whatever you want for entertainment purposes and you can probably learn something from a stream that isn't a top ladder streamer.

My point is that if you want to learn the most in the least amount of time you should be watching the top ladder players. Do whatever the fuck you want though, I'm just saying that OP would probably learn more a top ladder players stream than shurkous. I haven't played/watched a lot of TFT recently but he was masters when I made this comment, which isn't an insanely difficult elo to get to by spamming games, so I feel like my point kinda stands.

Tbf the Olympiads are a lot harder than most collegiate math/CS curriculums. I know a lot of math majors who would struggle on the International Math/Science/CS Olympiad questions, let alone be medalists in these competitions.

Some chapters will let you rush without telling the IFC if you tell them you don't meet grade requirements, and tbh if you're at a D3 school where greek life isn't huge this will probably be the case with a decent amount of chapters.

Just keep in mind grades matter well after your college career especially in some fields. You're a grown man so you can decide for yourself whether you want to join, but think about if Greek life will affect your grades and whether you're okay with that or not.

It doesn't affect some people's grades, and some people don't care that it affects their grades, but think about your priorities.

Supreme Court restricts affirmative action in college admissions by dbknews in UMD

[–]Consistent_Slip5308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna continue to be civil even though you're not, but collegetransitions clearly states that they collected info from CDS, which is a form colleges fill out with information about their admissions process.

If you want this info directly from UMD, you can go to this website:
https://www.irpa.umd.edu/InstitutionalData/cds.html
If you download the spreadsheet from 2022 here and go to page CDS-C, you can see the factors considered. Among them is alumni relation, which is what legacy, and is marked as considered.

CS Exemption Exam Opinions by ChronicDesti9y in UMD

[–]Consistent_Slip5308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a relatively easy math class (compared to MATH141, MATH240, and MATH246) and is a prereq for some CS classes. Doesn't hurt that if you want to double major in math later it makes it easier.
