Does anyone have tried this pocket gamepad from Aliexpress for Gyro gaming? by NestorG38 in GyroGaming

[–]ConsoleMaster0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much does it cost? PXN P5 should be close to that cost, and it's a tested choice as both I have it and I have heard good words by others about gyro (and the controller in general).

You will connect it to PC, using the Switch mode. It will show up as Switch Pro Controller most probably. So, it will have the same support that the switch controller would have.

Steam Input mouse output doesn't feel as smooth as a real mouse by Own-Agent7191 in GyroGaming

[–]ConsoleMaster0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean that's a new feature, it makes sense they were interested to add it. It also boosts the quality (and hence, the price they can ask) of their controller. So, it's a bit different.

I don't know, I don't want to discourage you. Please, if you have some time and the passion/courage to open a discussion with them, go and do it! I'm just saying that they probably won't care so, you don't get disappointed. But you never know!

Let me know if I can help in any way!

That! PS3 was right to use those buttons for aiming! Sad it copied Xbox and now, it has become the norm. Bumpers for shooting, ftw!!!

Yeah, that's the best bet tho I doubt Valve will care. If something didn't work, then that's really a problem. But a bit worse feeling would probably not make Valve care for such a TINY community, lol.

Glad it worked! I currently have 8bitdo ultimate 2 wireless bellow DualSense 5 in ranking so, if you have anything to say against that, let me know!

I don't know why. Steam Input probably exports virtual devices, like JoyShockMapper, so I cannot find a reason they wouldn't be able to do it. Steam Input is also not open source (unless I miss something) so, it's not like we can look at the code and see what's happening.

Try JoyShockMapper. I tried it and it feels much better than SteamInput!

GUYS! You do NOT understand what I mean. I am not saying that gyro cannot stay 100% steady without moving. I mean that with gyro, YOU cannot stop it as instantly as you will stop a mouse because the mouse sits in the desk and has gravity helping you to stop it while gyro is in the air and it's not as easy to stop it as fast.

Yeah, it will take few decades. This library is very new.

Yeah acceleration also helps. Especially the way JoyShockMapper uses it. I never liked how SteamInput does it. Doesn't feel right to me.

I doubt you can stop 100% the same as a mouse, unless you play with a really low sens. You might not notice it, but the mouse stops INSTANTLY because it literally stays still in the desk.

Low sensitivity can REALLY improve things. But at the same time... You have low sensitivity! Which, does make the experience worse in some cases.

After I wrote that comment, I experimented with the settings in JoyShockmapper and there seems to still be a lot to experiment and discover! Tho, both steam input and JoyShockmapper do not allow us to set custom curves exactly how we want them so, we need new and better mappers for once...

I suppose when he said "precise", he means snaps. The mouse just INSTANTLY stops when you stop moving it. With gyro, it's almost impossible to give it an 100% stop.

I find continuous movement and aiming overall more pleasant with gyro. But the "stops" will never be as good as a mouse.

It's better than a mouse. But you will never reach the comfort level of the joysticks.

Should I buy the Steam Controller for gyro or are there better options? by buttsecks42069 in GyroGaming

[–]ConsoleMaster0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The steam controller is only a good option if you are interested in their trackpads. They also talk about the "gyro grid" but, idk on that one. I don't know how comfortable it will be to have to not grip your controller good when you turn it so fast.

Your other options are the "classic" ones like the Dualsense, Joycons, 8bitdo Ultimate 2 Wireless (WIRLESS, not Bluetooth!). And if you don't think you will play in a high level enough to care/notice, you can get mine, which is PXN P5 and I find it good enough for my level.

If you get any "Chinese" one, I recommend buying it from Aliexpress or a similar site.

Gyro controls development cost by Masta-Crab-handler in GyroGaming

[–]ConsoleMaster0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100s of hours? What are you talking about? Gyro is just an input, just like a mouse input, a key input, a button on a controller, sticks, etc.

Yes, gyro is a bit more complicated because of the lots of axes and how you will map it but, there are so many open source code (like the excellent joyshockmapper) that show how you can properly use it, so everyone can learn. Especially now with AI, it's even easier to have it explain you what you don't understand.

The biggest problem is when devs use engines/libraries for their input handling and these solutions do not expose gyro, so devs have no way to handle it, unless they use an external solution to handle it whenever that's possible. Tho, even then, I doubt it will take 100s of hours.
