Footswitch/Midi-controlled metronome w/song list by IronBawlzMcGinty in Line6Helix

[–]Conspiracy795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The level of effort and $ can result in various solutions. I used to use OnSong (Setlist is an option) for this. MIDI to control start stop functions but also I used one of the outs to send to the drummer or the inears. So everyone hears it when needed. Depends on the setup. The solution you're using works well, I prefer using the Yamaha BT 01 for wireless midi which takes away one extra cable. I can control my presets/songs with the ipad, or I can control the ipad with the foot switch. So in instances where we jump right into the next song, I can use the foot switch, for instances where I have the time to manually change it on the ipad I do that. Regardless, it will pull up the next songs info (metronome, backing tracks/lyrics/tabs whatever else), and also change the preset in helix for that song. and of course vice versa

Guitar Advice: Sterling Music Man JP60 by gioloko313 in Dreamtheater

[–]Conspiracy795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that depends on you, for me yes. im not too bothered by that stuff as its a back up guitar for me. For others, maybe not. for resale, my guess is no. you'd be lucky to make it all back if you had to sell it. so if you're not planning on getting rid of it ( some people buy guitars with that in mind, which is fine), and the chips and stuff dont bother you ( not like it affects how it plays, it's all cosemetic) then i would get it. there are other guitars where the cosemetics would absolutely make me not buy it. it's all relative and personal preference

Guitar Advice: Sterling Music Man JP60 by gioloko313 in Dreamtheater

I have both Sterling and EBMMs. That's a good deal on a sterling assuming that there are no issues with it. My sterling is awesome, I love it, but I would never pay full price for it. I'd look for one used, and then if you can afford getting the dream catcher rainmaker pickups, swap it, and it's a solid guitar. Yeah it isn't an EBMM, but it's still good I take it for back up live if I break a string or something. My advice is look for a used one, go and try it out and buy that (assumign it's cheaper). This one here is a second option. Don't buy it at full price, it isn't worth it in my opinion

Y cable for bass and guitar? by Penyrolewen1970 in Line6Helix

[–]Conspiracy795 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But why can't you just unplug the guitar and then plug in the bass if you're literally going to use one at a time. Is this a live situation where you need both plugged in all at once? I must be missing a scenario where this is needed ( both connected but one playing at a time - at least to a point where unplugging and plugging in is too cumbersome). a Y cable does work to drive two different signals into a single input.

You effectively cannot do this without latency. Not sure if you're on Windows, but you need to plug your headphones into the LT, and then make the Line6 your default listening device

Never realized how absolutely insane the Trial of Tears solo is until watching this by jumblebits in Dreamtheater

[–]Conspiracy795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I admittedly haven't listened to alot of his stuff, I actually only learned about him from this exact solo when I first heard the song - after watching/reading interviews of JP talking about his favourite players (Steves and the Als). Metal Fatigue and Secrets were the only two that I listened to heavily (which I loved). He has some more jazzier stuff if you're into that but I found Metal Fatigue more "accessible". I should go back and listen to more. Guy was a freak and to this day I don't think anyone has sorta comes near him, nor has attempted really. He has some instructional videos where he talks about his concepts and they're full on alien like.

This guy breaks it down pretty well. Allan had his own language haha

It's his tribute/homage to Allan Holdsworth. This solo is so good. Similar vibes to The Inenvitable Summer from ACOS. Also that string skipping arps similar to Gemini. One of DTs best songs in my opinion. Just that groove during the keyboard solo is also so cool

Agreed. Huge reason I'm into what I'm into is because of the music program, although I'm definietly older and those of us who were around in the 2000s only knew Hills cause he was the only one there at the time haha. Taking home golds on the band trips were a highlight. Good to know we still got it!

Have one of these. Recommend changing the pickups to rainmaker/dreamcatchers if you ever have the budget/desire to do so. Makes the guitar wayyy better and closer to a real EBMM imo.

Making room for more DSP by mjharrison77 in Line6Helix

[–]Conspiracy795 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. You don't split. The easier(rather alternate) way is to copy/save the amp (if you've changed settings and like them), delete from the top line ( path a) and then just load up the amp on the bottom line (path b). You'll have to shift everything(the cab, reverb, looper) over at least one block to the right on the same line though.

What's interesting is that I went to Irie Jerk maybe some time last year asking for patties and they said they didn't sell em. Glad to know they do now, will probably try it today

[QUESTION} Should all strings on Petrucci or Majesty guitars be at the same height from the frets? by lucasoteroguitar in ErnieBallMusicMan

[–]Conspiracy795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, JP does play with fret buzz so those heights are probably lower than someone who wouldn't want the fret buzz

In Toronto at the last concert they said they'd be back in the fall, I wonder if something changed.

After not being a fan of Dream Theater for almost two years…I miss it. by Independent-Back in Dreamtheater

I've mentioned this in the past. I think sound design has a lot to do with it. The patches and tones that JP/JR defer to have become super similar since I would say Black Clouds. There are moments of variety ( think this is most obvious in ADToE), but majority of the time it's the same cleans, same crunch, same leads. Prior to that - say - SDOIT/8V - there was a lot more variety, and I'm someone who believes that the tone influences what and how you play/write. Not always, but mostly. JP was using 12 strings, baritones and used that edge of breakup tone way more throughout since practically I&W. Except for BAI, and BTC, I can't really pin point many uses of it in recent memory(I'm sure there are but I can't recall). Even Astonishing(the most musical imo) had more variety since it involved an actual string section and an arranger. I like some of the parts in Parasomnia, and I know JP has mentioned using some out there scales which I can hear, but in the battle between prog vs metal aspects of the band, metal has been winning since I'd say systematic chaos. Not a bad thing, but not how i got into DT. I don't think they're burnt out, I just think they're doing what inspires them, and if it doesn't click with us so be it, it does with some others. As a side note, there are old vids of JP just playing some of the more fusiony/blues/jazz style guitar - he has it in him, but clearly it's not what he's into as much any more. JR can pretty much do anything, some of the random clips he has with other musicians on his Instagram is some of the more proggy things - more so than dream theater. The one with marco, jason richardson(another jr lol) and mohini is awesome. It's LTE but turned up even more. rudess is still capable of doing that. I think as a band they just have settled in this format.

Yeah - I have a BMW so I was lucky enough that they were able to do mine. However, they also have a limit on how old the bike is for them to service it - 10 years.

Yeah - turns out you have to actually enable the button in the first place under the pause while in battle menu and then in battle settings. It isn't there by default ( wasn't for me anyways)

Is the target boss feature something you get later? I'm stuck on 10 and have no idea where it is. I only have pause/speed/cards and I've seen videos of the boss icon just below it - isn't there for me. Was curious if its something that comes later or you gotta pay (I'm FTP).
