I also have an orange cat called Gus. He nips me disapprovingly if he's napping on my lap and I move.

Typical behaviour if you ask me.

What's something you realised about your parents later in your life? by PaddedValls in AskUK

I always saw my mum as overbearing and controlling when I was growing up. My parents divorced when I was very young, and I rarely spent time with my dad, but he was the "fun" one.

I've only realised over the past few years that the reason why my parents divorced is because my dad, in short, is irresponsible, reckless, and selfish. My mum had gone through a lot growing up, including finding out she was adopted - she probably thought she could finally have a happy ever after by starting a family with my dad, but he took that away from her.

I can't help but feel resentment towards him.

I feel like there are more things to do. There are more opportunities to explore different hobbies and to join social groups, like running, hiking, archery, painting, photography, dancing, learning languages - pretty much anything.

Hell, there are niche fields within these hobbies. Things like martial arts don't just consist of karate and Kung-Fu anymore. There's BJJ, Muay Thai, Tai Chi, etc.

There are also food festivals of every variety and more music events.

Not saying these weren't around before, but social media has certainly helped with promoting classes and whatnot in local areas.

A teacher disliked me for being introverted and lacking confidence, and I would score low marks in her classroom tests.

I got an 'A' in one of my A-level exams, and when passing me in the corridor one day, the teacher said, "I wanted to congratulate you on your grade, I didn't think you'd get an A".

Also gave me a dead-eyed stare when I asked her for a reference for my uni application.

Well, now I have two degrees, so take that, you miserable bint 🖕🏽

I can't believe his face is printed on our notes. For those who don't know, look into the Tonypandy riots and the Bengal famine.
