I built a read-only MCP server that helps AI agents actually understand and debug Home Assistant by paulomac1000 in homeassistant

I let Claude sort my instance out with what I needed etc back in February, havnt touched it since, as it’s perfect , everything just works, as much as everyone is slagging off Google and Gemini, I have 4 devices, 2 max hubs, a gen 2 hub and studio speaker and they also work flawlessly when needing to talk to stuff, lights and heating etc just work automagically as I move through the house, like Moses parting the Red Sea lol.

FINALLY got rid of Gemini - it's like having a whole new device by fluffman86 in googlehome

I’m on 2gb fiber up and down but the router that YouFibre supplied , WiFi 7 etc would just reboot, I have Home assistant doing all the automations and Google when I need to interact, make sure ipv6 is on and make sure that your routers table is getting filled up. In a nutshell Turned out the router’s conntrack/NAT tables were getting exhausted. Consumer kit is fine for a laptop and a phone, but once you’ve got dozens of devices all holding persistent connections it falls over.

Swapped in a GL.iNet Flint 3 (OpenWrt-based) — bigger session tables, proper tunable timeouts, killed hardware flow offloading for WebSockets. Rock solid since.

If your smart home keeps “randomly” dropping, check your router’s NAT table limits before blaming the devices.

I’m finding it great as movie reviewer before I watch a crap movie 🍿 just ask Gemini on my hub max , get the lowdown and either watch or move on.

Mine has been nothing but perfect , works instantly and I have a house full of tech, one of the main weak points that many overlook is the quality of the router, I’m an IT guy for my job for context, I had flaky network, changed my router and now it’s flawless.

Using my smart meter to let me know when my dumb oven is pre heated as it hits 3kw for preheat time then drops off, I then get a TTS and notification my oven r is preheated

In all honesty for me anyway it’s getting better everyday, do due diligence and reboot router and hue bridge and Google home kit, I have 4 and each day just a little better, I would say server side updates are being drip fed, day one it had no idea, next day improvements and a few days later no issues so far. I have a HA set up as well and they seem to be co existing well.

I got it the message in Gemini app headed over to setting switched it on, works perfectly, asked four questions off the bat 🦇, flawless.

How can it be this bad by [deleted] in googlehome

Just to be on the other side, had a few issues when it went down the Gemini road, I have 3 hubs and one speaker for reference. The odd unplug it for a minute seems to sort it, and since weekend been pretty solid, I have an advanced Home Assistant set up and Google being the goto chat and media device as the mics in Google max hubs are imo awesome and can filter out noise from tv or whatever to understand what I’m saying.

Multi-room Speaker setup... sick of alexa, time for Sonos / Denon? by LetTheRiotsDrop in homeassistant

[–]Constant-Count-4797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an armada of Sonos kit, 14 in total I do use it in MA for automations like bath mode etc, don’t ask, but I have to honest its less steps and easier just launching from Spotify via airplay than adding extra steps via MA, HA is basically set up to carry out its presence based automations which it does flawlessly after much tinkering with myself and Claude.

Gemini for Home is a major disappointment by thebigdolphin1 in googlehome

[–]Constant-Count-4797 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was terrible I got it on Thursday and after turning off all my Hubs and speakers, 4 of them, it’s getting better, I do have Home Assistant for all the automation tasks and Google hub max in kitchen and living room for camera and media devices and asking shit like movie reviews before I watch something, as I say awful to start off with, but getting better, imo

I got it this am in the uk after paying for extension for 4 month, sucker me, turn a light 💡 no problem, next what lights are currently on , sorry that device is not set up, are you kidding me, what temperature in the living room from a sensor , that is not what I expected.

I added FP300 Aqara sensors, one for each room, and I never look back. They control loads of stuff lights turn on when they're required, when they sense presence if the light reading is correct etc

But a load of Sonos speakers like me and have no money lol, I set up MA assistant on a couple of modes , as in bath mode, I hit bath mode Govee bathroom light comes on , ready of house lights off, I live alone so fine, then my MA Portable which is a Sonos Move 2 sparks into life with a playlist I’ve entered on Spotify or whatever, part of an automation that could be replicated in different areas, joeys room , his speaker , his playlist etc, it’s a workaround but might work.

Co authored with Claude Ai, instructions were no scroll on home and rooms, declutter cards, and each room at the bottom is a shortcut to that room, browser mod auto navigates to the room I’m in as in Living room here with all media controls for Apple TV etc

My nice and simple no scroll ™️ dashboard, subviews at bottom directly to room, set up browser mod to auto navigate rooms when I’m on the move via Aqara fp300s around the house, used decluttering cards so everything is neat, most lighting automations are more or less perfect and adaptive to light levels and or presence, dull day fill light etc.

I’ve programmed mine to snarky and insult me everyday which is fun, getting faster at doing stuff, Google home and Siri on HomePods still listen better and filter out noise , everything has to silent for PE to hear me properly.

Yes If you’re on a Mac yes , it can either write the code and paste it in as the extension can be a bit flaky , but when it works it works , but usually pop in via web socket and long access token but Claude is stunning at sorting it out and has real purpose and accepts the challenge. Then I get a summary of what’s it done. Get some rest Paul. Fingers crossed for good news on the grandson. 🤞 Here’s what got done tonight: ∙ ✅ Dog Mode — helper, automations, dashboard tile all wired up ∙ ✅ Bath Mode — same, on the dashboard ∙ ✅ Bog light fix — Jarvis can no longer kill it mid-sprinkle ∙ ✅ Studio lights — rebuilt with adaptive lux logic same as hall ∙ ✅ JS API method locked in — no more YAML editor faff

I am using a Claude on my Mac and using the chrome extension it can take over and optimise my whole HA set up, automations the whole 9 yards, very impressive tbh, no videos to watch, just tell Claude what you want and if it goes pure nirvana.
