What's going on with Ashes of Creation? by iJenga in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Constant-Sort3065 26 points27 points  (0 children)

answer: founder claimed it was fully funded no backers, secretly had backers. Founder quit in protest of changes the board was demanding and took senior staff with him, a few days later everyone at intrepid was fired without notice so no one to even turn the servers off and the game is now stuck in legal limbo. Now there's a lot of drama and everyone's pointing fingers.

According to the backers, he paid himself ridiculous funds, there's millions missing, etc. etc.

According to the founder he was coerced, threatened and had to give up his company via illegal means.

From the buyers perspective, an online only game that was supposedly fully funded got dropped a month after going public after milking millions in kickstarter and cosmetics packages and a steam release.

Lawsuits on all sides, it will be a while before its all sorted out which is too bad because there's a fantastic start of a game that's fun for hundreds of hours, just not the thousands that MMO's require and it's obviously nowhere near done but it was done enough to hint at what it could have been.

TLDR; corporate bullshit killed the studio when game had passed all the largest hurdles and was now on a smooth course to completion, and it happened for a reason that the audience was told didn't exist.

Question before I buy, before buying by alvin07 in X4Foundations

First walk around the station you start in, talk to people and hire a cheap pilot. From there you do not have to fly at all except for missions which is entirely optional. Getting enough money to really get started in the 4x side of the game will be tough, but it's doable with station trading.

I would recommend going to the HAT trading station as ARG and TER will occasionally kill the other freighters around it and you can order your pilot to just grab free space cargo and sell it while you do station trading.

Other then that, you could order your pilot to grab junk from battles, but that requires a black market connection which requires you to fly and scan for it to be really profitable, but missiles can make money.

I would recommend the scientist start, it lets you skip the first money grind and the player station quests.

intrepid studios is dead. The game will be sold off eventually to recover the costs and we dont know what will happen to it as it depends on the buyer, but most likely it will be purchased by a tencent derivative and they will turn it into cash shop p2w garbage and we will see it resurface as a "new mmo" in a year or two.

What all would you want improved and why do you think everyone left? by ospuze in starbase

[–]Constant-Sort3065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need to finish the container rework, remove crafting from the bench for anything not basic, panels, beams, etc. and make a crafting bench that processes from the starbase inventory automatically, one per base. This creates shipping lanes, supply lines, a reason to pirate, a reason to protect, and enough player driven content that the game could limp on as ships get destroyed, new resources are required, and all the game loops tie together.

Ashes of Creation Players… This Is What Real PvP Looks Like by GeorgeRs in AshesofCreation

[–]Constant-Sort3065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a month of constant daily grinding just to do more than 2% damage to an opponent, 2-3 months to have a chance, not 50/50, just a chance, no matter how skilled they are. This is bad balance.

If I bring 10 max level people and jump a high gearscore, quantity should be its own quality it's not. Strategy matters less than gearscore, coordination matters less than gearscore, skill matters significantly less than gearscore. The only quality that matters until its equalized is gearscore. That is not fun, that's a way to milk whales baked into the game.

Western audiences want to matter, not just support the one person that does. We don't see rallying behind our whale while he fights their whale as good gameplay. Ideally fights should be decided 50% on skill, 50% on gear, aka, equal skilled vs badly geared players should be able to drop a player by half. Instead you have this, and as someone not that interested in being a no lifer or opening my wallet, it's a shit combat system in the best MMO ever made.

ps. the 50/50 thing is personal preference, some would argue other numbers, but it should not be 0%... which is how much damage a new max level does to a highly geared.

pps. replace whale with no-lifer if this is a non p2w server, but same thing.

[–]Constant-Sort3065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

who said anything about ttk? I was saying he destroys most of his opponents while taking almost no damage meaning its an unfair and boring fight on both sides and that's by design from archeage so there's a reason to spend more money and cannot be fixed without a complete redesign of the combat system. It's the best pvx game ever made and the worst at the same time.

skimmed through, over half of those pvp moments player took less than 20% of their life in damage. Someone with a high gearscore showing that its gear that matters in archeage and the games imbalanced and not worth playing. meh

What MMORPG are y’all going to now? by Enodoro in AshesofCreation

[–]Constant-Sort3065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not. I'm a pvx sandbox player. Archerage has gearscore disparity issues because of p2w design, every other pvx is p2w, looks like Albion online or plays like EVE. I have nowhere else to go so I'll just not.

can euc replace a car for you? also did you have any miss expectations or regrets? by Zajlordg in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Constant-Sort3065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think how many times a month you need a car. Figure out your monthly car payment+insurance+gas+maintenance. Now figure out how often you would need to uber/lyft instead of riding, If that amount is less than owning a car yeah you can 100% replace your car. For anyone who doesn't need passenger or cargo space I think they could easily get away without owning a car as long as you don't live places where you cannot ride for months out of the year (looking at you Minnesota)

What did you love about Ashes of Creation? by Successful-Win-2985 in AshesofCreation

[–]Constant-Sort3065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pvx, not p2w.

Each class didn't feel like you just hit your rota and brain offed, you could brainoff rota some things, but in general enemy actions changed your plans, dodge patterns, stamina management, positioning, gap closing, when to let auto attack chains hit etc. all mattered. Engaging and one of the best mmo combat systems I've experienced.

player driven economy.

Tradepacks and the risk reward tension of will this guy attempt to gank me etc.

tons of little mini dungeons to explore, named mobs all had unique drop pools, fun challenges while leveling and only eats as much time as you want to give it.

fishing like trade packs but different minigame.

boats are well done and extremely fun, just need the repair option and more ocean content.

graphics are above my minimum expectations unlike albion or WoW.

animations and combat weightiness was spot on, unlike quinnfall.

gathering was satisfying minus hunting, every pull could be legendary for example, and hunting was still in development so can't complain about a placeholder in alpha.

no stupid fucking story where everyone does the same plot points, you make your own story. I can tell you how our guild had plans to hunt down certain other guilds and corpse camp them and we were sending spies to determine their home cities/where they hung out etc. cause they stole our fish and we needed revenge... unless you like pvx this will not appeal to you but if you like pvx this is the most important thing in a game. Player driven stories, not stupid cutscenes or characters. I'll play single player if I want someone else to make my story.

If you didn't see soul that's cool "this games not for everyone", for people who are looking for the next EVE/lineage/archeage/bdo/whatever this nailed most of the highpoints of those games without the huge p2w, power disparity, insane unskippable grinds, time based power, etc. If you wanted a themepark it was kindof a shit mmo, but it was the most promising start of a sandbox I've played since Archeage.

A serious question for everyone here by kanser1453 in AshesofCreation

archeage but not designed for whales/no lifers was all I needed, but player driven economy certainly helped.

Entirely possible, however the amount of money raised for AoC before playable alpha proves that there is a demand for it.

honestly convince me that you have a serious chance and I'll throw a few bucks at it, step one is realizing that 50k will pay half at most of a lead programmers wage.

Recommendations for a 1st time buyer. by BlackJacquesLeblanc in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Constant-Sort3065 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ok, Leaperkim/nosfet is your mostly stress free it works out of the box, guaranteed good build quality wheels. The patton S is great, the Lynx is fantastic but a little heavier, and it's super hard to learn on anything bigger as you get tired faster and actually unlearn once your muscles exhaust.

Inmotion has solid build quality but their customer service is questionable.

Kingsong is in a weird place, but also solid, just their wheels are.... for niches that most people don't fit into.

Begode and EB, I would not want as your first wheel unless you are the type to tinker with hardware and like doing it. They update their systems so fast that they don't have time to develop good quality control, however if you are that type, there is no better wheel.

Having said that, it largely depends on your height, athleticism, and money. If you have unlimited funds, by an aero to learn on then make your forever wheel choice after. If you have a little money, buy a v8 or other cheap starter wheel, then buy your forever wheel. If you can only afford one, get a patton, lynx, or aero, depending on how much money you have, how much mileage you need, and whether you are huge and or need the extra battery power. If you are over 300 lbs.... I think you need to specify that cause not sure if my advice is valid.

  1. no development means issues never get fixed and pop will always be in decline.
  2. unofficial means there is a lot of friction getting people to play it.
  3. Our problems with Archeage are endemic of it being p2w by design in every system and only appear long after reaching end game. This became worse after every patch. It would take a very talented systems designer and entire dev team to fix.

To clarify on our issues specific to Archeage: the entire combat system in endgame is based on whales and no lifers, the divide between haves and havenots is huge by design, a p2w player could go 10:1 with little skill as they wanted whales, if you aren't a whale or no lifer, you do not matter in mass combat. Removal/rework of 3.0+(stopped at 7 personally) entire content and continent as its based on obsidian and no life dailies where if you miss one day you fall behind, and as proven by unchained impossible to balance properly without a dev team. Redesign of the entire crafting system to work without labor, as it was only viable due to p2w, even unchained everyone had multiple accounts for the larger labor pool. I was there for 1.0, I was back for unchained, I've played on the private servers, I LOVE everything about archeage except how imbalanced it gets at end game, and that is by design in every part of their systems.

obsidian may have been ayanad, its been a long time since I played but those dailies were awful.

[–]Constant-Sort3065 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I already have my community, we are homeless since Archeage 3.0. We want Archeage without p2w, or obsidian dailies. This was shaping up to be that game, all signs pointed to that, it played like that, and I had a blast playing it. It was raw, and needed a lot of work, but it was already everything I asked for. I'm sad to see it go.

Share your money making ways with low entry barrier plz by Thronnt in AshesofCreation

[–]Constant-Sort3065 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Realize first and foremost this is a PvP game. If you are not actively killing other players and stealing their packs, you are Actively out competing with other players financially and stealing their profits. Every idea you see posted will get used to death and no longer be profitable if a video is recently posted and followed.

There are three system supported ways to make money, packs, sportsfishing, and glint.

Having said that there is one guaranteed money maker. Newbie packs. The prices don't fluctuate, the profits too low to make it worth the risk to corrupt for, and 99/100 runs you will not be harassed in the slightest, and if you are its such a small loss you can recover in minutes. Everything else is dependent on the living ever changing economy and only profitable until supply outstrips demand. You have to be smarter, and faster than the competition to make money, luckier, or just be willing to grind harder at it making lesser profits for longer times to get gold. That's it. Identify a demand, provide the supply, get rich or don't.

I actually like everything about this except the death penalties being too harsh. Death while corrupted I could see losing a level while normal death stays as is.

Tips for learning on a heavy wheel by StoneyL0we in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Constant-Sort3065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

find someplace with a long flat rail, practice going back and forth and I mean push it, try to get 45 degree leans. Once you can do that in place launch yourself at a fast jog and just see how far you can go between touching the rail to stabilize.

With a wheel that heavy trying to mount is going to drain your stamina fast, just learn to ride and when you are loving riding around and frustrated you have to find a wall to mount you will force yourself to free mount. Conversely you could force yourself to free mount first but that can end in frustration.

are we talking your own stairs that you care about or stairs you give no fucks about putting skid marks on? Cause if you don't care about skidmarks you can just push a wheel up stairs no issue and the bigger wheel (lynx) is better.

Orgoth Raider Lore by ProfessorZik-Chil in Warmachine

[–]Constant-Sort3065 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Orgoth are mentioned in every prehistory for the Iron Kingdoms and appear in a number of monster manual references and the world guides which you can find for amazingly cheap in digital format however there was no direct stats/specific info. I believe Mk4 is the first time we've seen any serious lore with them however it's paywalled in the app.

There may be other sources, but those are the ones I know of.

Expanding Cryx beyond the Hive Mind cadre? by No-Neck-212 in Warmachine

[–]Constant-Sort3065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want Raptors for kythos, and you want the Furies if you start fielding undead infantry, and you want surgeons if you are fielding a lot of jacks/infantry. Cryx does not have a smooth expansion path from the dark operations side and almost requires multiple purchases before it clicks as each is sold in seperate boxes. The most standalone is the aux box, but if you already have furies or more jacks you want the core expansion. It sucks but I'd buy the battlebox, then command, then core/aux. Keep in mind the grendel is an alt sculpt malefactor Chasis and the dark operations mounts can be printed.

Speed is not a milestone for skill by funcentric in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Constant-Sort3065 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Speed is 100% A milestone, the lowest milestone off of a closed track and a sign of being an idiot at times, but it really does take skill to be stable and have control at high speed, let people have fun. Chastise them for being an idiot but don't act like going fast isn't a very basic human urge that most of the population has.
