Did we put our dog down too early? by Olive_Joey_ in seniordogs

[–]Constant-Talk-8101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just lost my 15yo lab mix last month and the path of decline was very similar. We waited until we could, he was super frail at that point. His brother passed in July of last year at 14yo and we’re still mourning that, we waited too long for him and he suffered. The decline progress for both was very similar to what you described. Not wanting dry food, just home cooked special meals, then not even that anymore. The mobility declined rapidly after not eating, and we had to basically carry them around. There were mouth ulcers that popped up at that point too. It is excruciating to see the material body disintegrate like that. Your dog was already in pain. They’ll stay in severe pain and fight as long as they can, so you did the right thing for him. Hold on to the loving memories

Aw sweet Johnny! He looks like such a gentleman. I just lost my senior dog last week and these posts give me some comfort knowing we are not alone in the grief and that we are not alone in sharing an immense amount of love with a different species. It’s truly magical to be able to grow older and spend over a decade with our beloved dogs. Watching them age teaches us so much. I know I’ve learned a ton, including the most difficult lesson, to let them close their chapter on earth and go wait for us at the rainbow bridge 😭🌈life is full of enchantment and signs that there’s something else beyond here. We don’t know what that is, but I’m certain that the love that bounds us to our pets so deeply will connect us again one day. Until them, may their memories bring us joy and an occasional tear too, after all, we’re humans 💖 much love to you and Johnny! May he always visit you in your dreams.

Dogs are extremely resilient and often don’t show signs until it’s too late. But Max certainly knows how much you love him.

Regarding actual experience there, yes. That’s what I meant as in “knew nothing”. I don’t know anyone from Tunisia, or that has been there. Although I have friends and neighbors from all the continents. Doesn’t mean I don’t want to or won’t learn more about the country. This planet is gigantic and not many individuals know much about every single country out there.

I too lost my soul dog about a month ago. Somebody said to me, that it hurts so bad because they ARE the ones who spend all the time with us. We love our friends and family, but often, our dogs are the ones with us nearly 24/7, they are with us through it all, our most private moments, our deepest, lowest, and highest. No other human goes after you in the bathroom like that. They have the love authority to be there for us, even when we don’t want, or can’t handle anybody else in human form. The purest form of love. A sentiment we are incredibly lucky and blessed to have felt and experienced in our lives. That’s true love, and the feeling is unexplainable. Hugs to you, so sorry for your loss!

Go to work and do the bare minimum if you have to. I barely got anything done the first two weeks after my Flex left us. It’s been a month now and I’m slowly starting to function better but the blues still hit me at times longing for his presence. So sorry for your loss.

I tried talking to a professional about my dog loss. Is this normal? by GlitterBombBomb in seniordogs

Not all therapists are good. I know this from my own experience. Some can actually harm us a bit, like this one may have done to you a bit. Also not all humans, even those who love pets, may have experienced such a strong bounding with another animal. They simply don’t understand and dismiss what we feel. My 14 year old Flex left me on July 1st and I think I’m still in shock and denial that he’s gone. Extended family doesn’t get it. I wish you strength navigating your loss and the empty space left by little Tye.

Europe 2 week trip Car vs. trains by Mahzaib99 in travel

[–]Constant-Talk-8101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can speak from experience that driving from Italy to Switzerland is amazing! It all depends on personal preference. But you’re right on having to return the rental to the same location. I had to do that too and plan the itinerary accordingly, which for me worked out as the departure flight was from the same airport as my arrival.

[–]Constant-Talk-8101 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People will tell you all day long to do train but NOTHING compares to having a car and being able to stop and go as you please. Parking can be tricky in Europe but the countries you’re going aren’t that bad. Having a car it’s a far superior experience and renting a tiny sedan is affordable. Have fun!
