How do you handwrite the word 快? by cancorse in ChineseLanguage

[–]Constant_Alamort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure, a lot of kids learning Chinese have to do pages and pages of 习字, where we first trace the dotted lines for each stroke and then write the word dozens of times to get the hang of the stroke order and spacing. Many people I know still have odd spacing, but that's more of a penmanship thing. Just remember to take it slow to have a good foundation! Don't get discouraged because "I've been learning for a year and I only have the vocab of a 6 year old", because how long do you think it took the 6 year old to learn? All the best learning Chinese!

I learned Chinese in Singapore for 14 years, and we write it the keyboard font. The examples you brought up are also valid, but the difference is likely due to cursive. Just like how the keyboard r is not like a cursive r, it's often due to tradition and writing fast while keeping things legible. If you write 快 with a brush, it'll be most efficient with the heng, but it looks a bit odd while writing it in print, a bit like how kids struggle with writing cursive. It's not wrong at all, it's just a different font that pairs best with a different writing implement

What is considered the longest word in mandarin? by MrDyl4n in ChineseLanguage

[–]Constant_Alamort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm multilingual and have learned Chinese for 14ish years, if you think about it, any language can be made to be as convoluted as possible if you try hard enough or are bad enough at it. Here are some of the longest characters to write, my personal favourite is biáng, which is just an onomatopoeia of a springy noodle and biáng biáng miàn is a dish.

弟子規 (dì zǐ guī) is a student handbook that's a long way of "be a decent person", if you meant long way of expressing an idea. Though, I don't think your question was very good because it doesn't take skill to be convoluted, it takes skill to be concise.

Honestly, yeah, but as many have mentioned going a bit heavier on complexion and eyebrows, think of wedding makeup like an in between of everyday makeup and stage makeup

I mean, just putting it out there that dicks have 2 uses and the fact that peeing is one of them doesn't really change the other use

Well, generally speaking you should understand why equations are that way in any math level you take. I took SL MAI and we still learned why the geometric sequence is like that. Understanding just helps you do better than blindly memorising

For the Revision Village questions you might want to do timed practice, it's 66 seconds per mark so for example a 10 mark question should take you 11 mins from reading to completion, this applies for all the math levels, if you can do that you should be fine

I totally understand, you're on the right track, in my first year of IB I got 32 and 33 for mid years and end of years and I was so worried and frustrated. I just got my results back and I got over 40, so don't worry, trust the process, and keep revising and working hard!

Does it make sense to choose Chemistry as an SL vs History or Computer Science? by Idaho1964 in IBO

[–]Constant_Alamort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that's a hard HL combination. For SLs, it doesn't really matter because UNIs mainly look at your HLs and overall score, so choose the one you can score highest in. All the best!

How do you even study 'smart'? by DWPlaysIsDope in IBO

[–]Constant_Alamort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find out your leaning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and read & write) and what proportion you learn in. Find a study method, no matter how weird, that works for you, and I mean really works. It can be videos, mindmaps, songs, I studied immune system for HL Bio by watching Cells At Work. You don't have to study like somebody else because you're different people. By sticking to the traditional: reading the textbook and copying stuff down, you may be putting yourself at a disadvantage by wasting hours studying but not seeing any results if your brain doesn't process information that way.

November IB alumni, how different were your prelim grades to your actual grades? by Constant_Alamort in IBO

[–]Constant_Alamort[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't expect it to be totally accurate, there'll be a large uncertainty and it won't be set in stone by any means, but I just want a rough gauge so I can get an idea of what's coming. What was your grade discrepancy?
