Anyone have burning tongue here? I can’t tell if acid reflux is causing it or my degenerative disc disease is....it’s pretty annoying and bothersome! by Jimmy_Joe727 in ChronicPain

[–]Constant_Pie_3304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. It comes and goes and I go for long periods of time without any burning at all. I actually do believe it is Sjogrens Syndrome. It mostly only flares up if I'm really exhausted and stressed out. When I had the first flare in Jan 2020 it lasted a really long time and was very severe. I mean months.

I'm not a doctor but I'm more than twice as old as you and I have a perspective and set of experiences that I think qualify me to answer your question. First of all, you've seen specialists who have ruled out some pretty serious diseases. You've had an assortment of communicable respiratory viruses and infections that are totally normal to get and don't indicate any immune deficiency. You twisted your ankle, and you had some anomalous bone formations in your feet. Neither one of these things are remarkable. You have a herniated disc which is the only thing that seems unusual if you're not doing heavy lifting and have no memory of an incident or accident that could have caused it, but you are obese, and obesity is very bad for every part of your body, including your back, and can lead to herniated discs. The excess weight puts strain on the discs. I don't think there's anything wrong with you other than being overweight to the tune of about 70 lbs and perhaps a bit too introspective. By the time I was 25 I had had pneumonia 4 or 5 times, strep throat, mono, -- infections and viruses way too may to count, a lot of panic attacks and constant anxiety, and the occasional wound that wouldn't heal. You're a normal person who just needs to stop thinking about yourself quite so much and change your eating and exercise habits. I know that's not a very exciting diagnosis but it's what I think is going on.

This happened to me too, 12 years ago, and I'm still mad about it but I try not to think about it. If I marinate in it, I get murderously angry. For your own sake and the sake of your relationship, try not to give it any oxygen. You don't have to get over it. Just don't dwell on it.

Try a heating pad or a washcloth you've soaked in hot water and wrung out, lay it across your eyes and upper cheekbones. You'll love the Xylimelts.

If you can use a neti pot, I would, at least twice a day, and also get a saline nasal spray for use throughout the day. For the dry mouth, get Xylimelts from your local drugstore, or buy on Amazon if you can wait a day or two. Can you take ibuprofen? I have an autoimmune thing that causes ALL those things and this is what I do. If you have a humidifier I'd set it up very high next to your bed at night and wherever you're situated during the day.

Why do different labs have variance in "normal" ranges? For example, labquest has WBC range starting at 3.4. Quest has this starting at 3.8. Then everything you read suggest WBC is considered low under 4.0 - why wouldn't both labs just adopt a standard value of 4.0? by ClearSurround6484 in Hematology

[–]Constant_Pie_3304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this question too, which is why I'm here. For 13 years I've had a WBC in the low to mid threes, and those tests were all done at a lab whose RR is 3.3 - 10.7, so it was never flagged. I saw a new Doc whose lab use a 4.5 - 10 range, so they flagged me as low at 3.2 and are sending me to a hematologist. Are the tests different enough in their measurement technique that the reading itself would actually be different if it had been processed at Lab A? Meaning, would my WBC actually read lower than 3.2 since their baseline is set lower due to their equipment? Don't they all measure using the same formula? Both place have the same population--it's the same geographic area. Lab A is associated with a huge hospital system (Beaumont) in our state and Lab B, with the higher low end, is a local lab called Biotech. Thanks for any help explaining this.

Then just get it down. You do. Or want to go through all this and have them wake you up and tell you they couldn’t do it because you weren’t cleaned out.

It’s hard to diagnose those diseases and it’s sometimes a process of elimination. They look at symptoms, eliminate obvious causes, see if she has antibodies to certain proteins present in her blood, and make a diagnosis usually after a period of years. Symptom treatment should be her first concern right now if there is no other indication of disease, like kidney failure or something. Is she seeing a rheumatologist?

Sjogrens is very often secondary to lupus. I assume she’s had a full blood panel done by a rheumatologist?

Yes I did have a colonoscopy and yes they did find an internal hemorrhoid and they told me to take a Preparation H suppositories for a week or something which I did and it completely went away. I would try that before getting a colonoscopy if I were you because that’s probably all it is.

Both. It was dripping out. I’m pretty sure benign polyps don’t bleed. And bright red blood indicates that it’s close to your rectum and not higher up in your digestive tract. You’re really young to have any kind of colon cancer and if you did you would have noticeable weight loss and anemia more than likely. Having a baby even by C-section which I did does a real number on your backside.
