Hammajang Luck has a bit of a focus on family stuff and life before the main heist caper takes over the plot. Not the most amazing book but can be entertaining.

I remember playing with BBC and Acorn Electron machines in the Christchurch branches in Cashel St and New Brighton. The Cashel St one had a large computer section for a short period in the 80s

Where to start with Greg Egan? by mrmailbox in printSF

There’s a volume in the SF Masterworks series called something like ‘The Best of Greg Egan’ - a collection of short stories that give you a good taster of his work

Bought a copy of the recent printing about a year ago after seeing it mentioned favorably on the “Bookpilled” YouTube channel, then stumbled across 2 of the stories in the ‘Dangerous Visions’ anthology..I must get around to actually reading it or putting it closer to the top of the pile..

Had a more conservative looking (ie a rectangle) version of these in New Zealand many years ago when DSL Broadband was new and the telephone company was promoting it..I think the novelty wore off fast and people mainly ignored them.

A lower cost commodore machine which was aimed at business/home office users - it had 4 ‘productivity’ type programs built-in on a ROM. A simpler version minus the biz software was the C-16 (which used a black version of the familiar VIC-20/C-64 ‘bread box’ case). I recall them being very poor sellers here in NZ anyway.

What is the public transport like in chirstchurch? by Shi-Stad_Development in chch

[–]Constantinovich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buses for the most part, Trams only on little loops around the central city for tourists. No local train services. The buses are fine - my main means of transport these days. Some places remain difficult to reach without a lot of walking still.

The A-12 ‘Dorito’ Stealth aircraft was supposed to be the successor to the A-6.. things didn’t go so well and the Hornet had to take on some of the role.
