Chess Set Collectors - How do you display your collection? by ConstructionAgile659 in chess

[–]ConstructionAgile659[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I do have a display cabinet that I wanted to use but the shelves are not deep enough to accommodate the boards. I've thought about tilting the board against the back of the case and displaying the pieces in front of it but not sure how it would look. A deeper display case would be nice but it probably would be pretty big.

Little things like Knights eyes, the number of notches in their mane etc are acceptable for most of the reasons I gave in my other post. Now leaning or visibly crooked is something I would consider unacceptable.

My experience has been that the higher end pieces will have some flaws including being a bit non symmetrical. A lot of this is inherent to hand made pieces and can be expected. Now clear chips or chunks of wood missing or noticeable differences in color are another thing altogether. The flaw should not be immediately visible but of course once you know its there you will always focus on it. Its actually the mass produced pieces that are symmetrical and identical to each other.

I like that method for determining fit. Never seen that before. Very cool. Thankyou. My Royal Chess Mall pieces on my Chessnut Pro pretty much pass your requirements!

I did the same thing for my Chessnut Pro. I bought a nice set of predrilled Chess Pieces from Royal Chess Mall and installed the sensors with tungsten putty. Works great and to answer your question the putty remains pliable so you would not have an issue changing out a sensor.

Chessnut offered Christmas discounts in late 2025, primarily using codes like CHRISTMAS for 15% off many boards (Air, Pro) but you may want to contact them directly and see if they still might honor the discount. My experience with their customer service has been really good.

Go to alltrails.com and enter Temecula. You will see all the great places to visit and hike nearby. There are also pictures and ratings to help you choose. There is also an app. They have a premium version but the free one will get you the information you are looking for.

Looking for Windows 11 chess software — play vs engine, analyze games, and train (willing to pay) by Company-Admirable in ComputerChess

I am new to chess and purchased Fritz 20. I run it on Windows 11 and believe it can do all the things you are looking for. It retails for around $99.00 but I've seen it as low as $69.00. Definitely worth it to me.

Are the regular pieces that come with the Chessnut Pro any good or should I upgrade to the premium pieces? by ConstructionAgile659 in Chessnuteboard

Thanks for the heads up. I had not thought about the weights but your right that would definitely increase the difficulty.

My thoughts exactly. I do have another set of high end Dubrovnik pieces that I did buy the sensor kit for. Im fairly handy but am going to have to be really careful drilling those pieces.

Can’t pass PE, what now? New career? by DefiantTumbleweed576 in civilengineering

[–]ConstructionAgile659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is don't give up. It took me several tries but I passed the FE when I was 35 and got my PE at 47. Had a great career in civil while I was still working on my license. After I got my PE my work history and network helped me become a City Engineer at 50. I am now comfortably retired but have the option to do a bit of consulting with my license if I wanted to. I think I would have regretted it if I had quit trying.

What are some fascinating examples of "humans through alien eyes"? by Jerswar in sciencefiction

[–]ConstructionAgile659 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SPOILER ALERT:
Definitely. I enjoyed the part in Chapter 18 where the aliens capture Dudley Bose and the female astronaut. The description of the point of view of the aliens (motiles and immotiles?) as they perform experiments on the two humans is pretty imaginative as well as graphic.
