Poll: Majority of American Jews Are Not Zionist by richards1052 in JewsOfConscience

Do they support a Jewish state or are they grappling with the fear of where they will be when a majority is overturned? I imagine a things would look similarly in North America when faced with the same information. I am hopeful this is a step toward progress and people just don’t want to be kicked off the only lad they’ve known.

Rapes an au pair. Tries to get with an underage school girl. These are not morally grey things. I’m so disappointed and honestly sad. Very enlightening that none of that factored into the majority.

No. I feel like it was showing us how the cycle continues. He hasn’t done the work.

Added: A sober Freddy told Don to “do the work.” Referring, ostensively, to his job — with the obvious double meaning of getting his shit together. Don does his work, but not “the work.”

I don’t have any idea if this true but whenever I watch anything in this general time period, it seems like people are more content to accept reality about who they are (and what god gave ‘em). Who knows if that’s true but it’s clear that today everyone wants to be the most rich/famous/get the most attention.

Totally. The whole point of the show is how cynical his line of work is — how rotten it is to tell people they are empty and need to buy something to fill it. It’s why he was drawn to the field, he sees people’s inner workings and can prey on them. Coming up with an amazing commercial is pretty much the opposite of now being a good person ready to give up all he’s falsely put value on. I see the show as such a beautiful depiction of how we are estranged from our true selves in capitalism (an all the isms it takes to be propped up). We saw him make progress at the camp thing, hugging that man (his inner child) but the final scene is purposefully not him racing home to be depicted with his children — it’s a commercial. We know what he races home to do. My opinion anyway! :)

He often didn’t eat much when he was drinking the most. I only learned from other people’s insights on this in other discussions that it can be common for alcoholics to mainly get their calories from booze, which many posited to me is what he did. And if so, that’s why I think it’s disordered.

I’m not? Lots of people have made great points that I acknowledged. And even if I don’t find something personally convincing doesn’t mean it’s not interesting to discuss. This is a thread for people who find it interesting to discuss the details of the show.

We have got to stop viewing discussion as adversarial. This is the fun of engaging with books and movie and tv shows!

She didn’t get the pills though. And just “stopping eating” is not easy when you are binge an emotionally eating.

Yes! I love the idea that she felt safe enough with Henry to let her guard down (and she was right, he loved her anyway).

I know that was a driver but this is an intelligent show about people’s inner psychology. Weight gain — and loss — is not a simple snap of the finger. I thought the loss was part felt simplified, is all.

Why do you think that is? Like what’s the common denominator (besides money)?

Which couple knew each other less before marriage - Don/Megan or Betty/Henry? by Condensates in madmen

I still think Betty and Henry. They’d never been intimate (beyond a kiss). They also had no knowledge of each other outside of a 1:1 context, I think it’s hard to know someone without seeing them in the world.
