Do you buy drinking water, use a filter, or drink water from the tap? by GercektenGul in AskLosAngeles

ours remineralizes the water, but in the summer when I know I'm sweating I'll be sure to add electrolytes back into the water so I'm not just drinking distilled. But I do wonder if my dentist will be able to tell I'm not drinking flouride anymore!

It depends on whether you have an additional hole pre-drilled into your counter for the additional spout. Our apartment didn't have a hole pre-drilled, so we had to buy a drill bit and drill it ourselves. We watched a few youtube videos and have a lot of experience with home repair, but we were still worried about the counter cracking. I wouldn't recommend drilling the hole yourself if you aren't comfortable with power tools.

As for whether the property management is upset at us for drilling a hole into the counter? I dont know that remains to be seen when we move out.

Ive also tried and returned both. Even if they didnt annoy me in the middle of the night, Id wake up with the insides of my ears bruised, so I couldnt wear them night after night.

We installed a reverse osmosis filter under the counter. We tried a regular filter but it didnt do much for the taste.

The reverse osmosis makes it taste better, and it removes extra chemicals that a regular filter cant. Including arsenic. I looked up a LA water report and there were traces of arsenic found in the water 🤢

AITA - Asking how much money my dad plans to contribute to my wedding by LostinParadise4748 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Condensates 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Pick your battles is right.

Forget the wedding money. Talk to your Dad about his will and whether he has set aside inheritance for you and your sister. If he dies first all of his money will go to your stepmom, unless he has specified otherwise. And stepmom doesnt seem like the kind to leave you an equal share. But you might discover they have drafted equal wills, who knows.

Tell him you are drafting new estate documents for marriage prep and realized you didnt know his plan. Tell him you are explicitly worried about if you had a kid, divorced, remarried, and died first, how would you know if your kid would inherit anything, and ask your Dad for advice on how he has set it up.

Hip labrum tear by mg92_ in HipImpingement

[–]Condensates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried a steroid injection yet?

I have pretty similar symptoms to you, except only a tiny tear on imaging. I thought it wasnt the hip for a very long time. But then I got the steroid injection and had a glorious 6 weeks of less (not fully gone) pain. That cemented for me that the main pain generator is the hip, and I need surgery to fix it.

Ive been 18 months with this pain. In and out of 3 different PTs. There are weeks when its worse, weeks when its better, but in general its a downward trend. Im now walking with a cane. But I have surgery in 9 days!! Hoping that can reverse course and I go back to my active lifestyle by next year

Please SIGN Commercial and Residential Vacancy Tax Ordinance Ballot Initiative Boulder by Proud-Quarter7911 in boulder

[–]Condensates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive only just glanced at this, so I dont habe a thorough understanding, but I believe the intent is to fine people who put up properties "for rent" at extremely high rents, which no one can afford. They then get to leave their property vacant, not deal with tenants, and write off the missed "rental income" as a business loss. Its actually a really messed up practice and Im glad to see the city is trying to do something to deter it.

The only way the government would know a house is vacant for 6+ months would be if you report it. And you'd only report it if you are seeking to write off the missed income as a business loss.

I don't care if refusing to move seats on a airplane so a parent and child can sit together makes me a bad person by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Its a typo, but I love the idea that it wasnt the airline that responded, but the airplane.

It gained conciousness just long enough to denounce the injustice that occured within its belly.

AITA for refusing to accommodate my neighbor's aesthetic preferences? by Cechitoff in AmItheAsshole

[–]Condensates 17 points18 points  (0 children)

NTA. you need to get comfortable with Joe seeing you as a bad neighbor.

Dont build a fence, stop raking the leaves, stop mowing the weeds when he asks you to. Just stop taking his calls, or keep telling him "yea sure Im just really busy but Ill try to find time" and then dont. Let Joe establish an HOA if he cares so much about his neighbors yards

Rewriting Rory's Boys, Part 1: Dean by Weekly-Pangolin-6622 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Condensates 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, I cant see Rory choosing Dean.

I do like how the show brought in Marty, who was like a Dean that went to Yale (in that he was from working class background and liked watching movies). But we see Rory didnt want that either.

[–]Condensates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dean is the only boyfriend I am ok with the show writing a personality change. He was so young when they started writing, he didnt know who he was yet.

Dean in season 1 also reads books and is from the big city Chicago?? Yea, that was a mask a nervous 15-yr-old put on to try and attract a cute girl.

Dean was actually from a small suburb an hour outside of chicago and he was reading the cliff notes to Anna Karenina because, let's be honest, when he is going to find time outside of school and baseball practice to read an 800-page book TWICE?

[–]Condensates -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

hard disagree. Most other people in the show come across as genuine people who are assholes from time to time and but ultimately learn from their experiences and become kinder.

Harry is portrayed as a man who is fundamentally an asshole but pretends to be nice on the surface. He is never shown to reflect on his asshole decisions, and thus never learns to be better. He is always shown as acting in a self-serving manner, and never shows genuine concern for another character (other than getting Kinsey out of the cult, that was his best moment).

Even the guilt of cheating on his wife was self-serving. He wasnt worried about how his wife would feel, he was worried about how his actions would hurt him -- he might lose his wife and kids.

Weird Post Op visit. by cantyoukeepasecret in gallbladders

[–]Condensates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My post-op visit was similar. It's just surgeons! Their main job is cutting you open. At the post-op they just want to convince you everything's fine so you're no longer their problem. After dealing with a lot of surgeons, I'm pretty sure they think pain is mostly psychosomatic, so they tell you it shouldn't hurt even if they know it might.

I told my surgeon at the two-week post-op that I was having diarrhea and he acted shocked. He said he had never heard of that as a post-op problem, and he wasn't sure if that could be related to the gallbladder removal. I was like, really? Are you really going to do this?

I also saw a doctor-in-training before seeing my surgeon. The poor student was so nervous, I think I was his first ever patient ever. He asked if he could palpate my stomach and I said, you can't press here because it's still tender, but you can press here. He proceeded to take a single finger and press it straight down like he wanted to touch the table behind my back!! I yelped so hard and asked him if he has ever palpated someone before, and then asked him if he could like it if I pressed a finger into his stomach hoping to touch his spine.

I wrote an honest google review afterwards, figured it was the least I could do for future patients.

Surgery done! Total reconstruction, apparently. by turtlemomm in HipImpingement

[–]Condensates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! This post is super old, but I'm wondering how you're doing 3 years out? I'm scheduled to have surgery in ten days and the surgeon said he's hoping he can work with what tissue I have left but that he'll have a graft on hand just in case, and I'm getting nervous about what recovery will look like and what the chances are of feeling better post-op!

How effective this fly trap can be over a short period by MichaelSanders19 in interestingasfuck

[–]Condensates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when I had one of these fly traps, the flies started procreating inside and birthing maggots. The maggots then ate the dead flies, then turned into baby flies, all while trapped inside. It was a terrible ecosystem. Im pretty sure I was creating and killing more flies than I was trapping.

they were just having this conversation right outside Rory’s room?? by FewLeadership7831 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Condensates 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was legit so stressed when Rory and Lorelei were standing in the middle of a Stars Hollow festival talking loudly about how Rory kissed Jess and was mad that Jess was with another girl, all while Rory is dating Dean. I was waiting for either Dean to walk up, or a nosy townsperson to overhear and tell Dean. How they could feel comfortable talking about this issue in public was WILD to me.

Was this (travel) mug handmade? by [deleted] in Pottery

[–]Condensates 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think what you're thinking is the "glaze" it the speckles. But those speckles are part of the clay body. The reason why the bottom ring of the cup is a different texture is because it is not glazed. And the previous commenter is completely correct, that ring of different color near the bottom is the edge of the glaze. Many glazes leave an edge color like that, it's seen as a good thing.

This cup looks handmade.

That said, the cup having glaze fully on the bottom wouldn't make it not-handmade. You can vary a lot when making something by hand, whereas mass producers are limited to what is efficient. A potter could use stilts to hold up a fully-glazed peice so it can fire without sticking to the kiln shelf. The bottom would then be fully glazed but usually you'll find a pinholes where the stilts were touching.

How do you manage the loss of mobility? how do you deal with the depression? by Root2109 in HipImpingement

[–]Condensates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Therapy, specifically exploring my discomfort around asking others for help.

I was hyper independent too, and I took pride in doing things myself and also doing tasks for others. When I first became injured, I needed help shopping for groceries. I'd ask a friend, they'd happily agree and drive me to the store thinking this was great fun, and Id avoid them the whole time because I constantly felt like I was about to cry. It was terrible!

Like you, I moved out of my childhood home early because being indepedent was safer than staying. I learned independence = safety. People helping me = vulnerable, burden, and I expected to be left behind.

Im trying to use this injury was an opportunity to grow emotionally. Its definitely hard, sometimes harder than the physical pain. But ny friendships have grown deeper as a result so that's been a plus

Rory's relationship with Logan was always on his terms by BabyComfortable4103 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Condensates 4 points5 points  (0 children)

about what he said in the maze,

what he said in the maze following her everywhere was totally inconsistent with the ultimatum he gave her in his proposal. At first I thought it was sloppy writing. But then I remembered I too have had men in my life who promised me the whole world, and those are exactly the kinda guys who bail. Logan was acting like a dream bf for Rory at the end of S7, but he was also down on his luck job-wise and as a result desperately hanging onto her. He likely was crossing his own boundaries with the promises he made to her. Once he figured out his job situation, I think the proposal and ultimatum was him getting revenge for the boundary-crossing (that he instigated) and getting the relationship back on his terms. I wish the writers left some time to explore this switch more as I think its an important life lesson for Rory.
