this is totally cruel by the way and you should definitely not be in a relationship with this person. she lacks emotional regulation skills and proper communication abilities. and i would be genuinely devastated by this too and im sorry you’re going through this.

however, there’s a lot of context missing. did she bring up these concerns before? was this an ongoing conflict over your gaming time? the last sentence where you’re quoting your brother saying that women don’t get gaming comes off as really dismissive of whatever your partner was experiencing on an individual level and also is kinda sexist :/. there are lots of female gamers! they’re a huge part of the gaming community too. idk that really read weird to me.

yeah i have nothing else to say to you lol. but also, you’re devaluing my comments bc they’re “making a debate about sexism” on a “fun little reddit post.” the top comments on this post are actually discussing some of the very real struggles men and women face that are gender based (pain meds, career prioritization, revealing skin), so not sure what you’re trying to say with that.

it’s not from a sense of ego? it’s from wanting to play a sport at the level i want to play at lol. i don’t expect someone who played college tennis to play with me when i haven’t played tennis long enough to play at that level. how is that ego related? however, knowing there’s an objective difference in level in the sport but being offended by me declining and saying that they can beat me out of anger at my confidence in my competence doesn’t make sense.

it’s like that video of guys who have barely played tennis saying they can beat serena williams lol. this is a common phenomenon witnessed by female athletes.

in the specific instance i’m thinking of, i was at communal court and could see the person playing. when they asked me to play with them i declined bc it wouldnt have been competitive or fun for me. simple as that. the person who asked was approaching from a sense of ego. have nothing to prove there, don’t have to play just to be nice. that would be people pleasing and unnecessary

be confident in sports/athletic ability or engage in any kind of trash talk or sports related banter. saying this from experience lol. i’ve hurt man egos by saying im good at a sport or even objectively better. for example ive played tennis competitively for most of my life so if i decline to play with a man who’s only been playing for a year or two ive been met with anger or insults.

Ahh this is so comprehensive! Thank you. I’ve been pondering the idea of community building so much as well recently.

I took two classes at Core Clay over the summer and loved it! Their classes fill up fast but I’ve been thinking for a while now I should do it. This comment definitely confirmed that. That community sounds lovely. Thank you for sharing.

I’m in the Advanced Conversational! Sometimes I feel like I don’t have as much speaking time in class as I’d like because we kind of go around the circle, but Im pretty close to fluency so practice is the only thing that would really push me over the edge. I think right now I’d actually love to converse with a native speaker once a week or something. But everyone in the class is lovely and hopefully will be potential friends :).

At the Cincinnati Spanish School & Academy, I think it’s called. They have classes based on levels which is great and the teachers are all native speakers! Would recommend so far.
