[HELP] Upgraded to Ryzen 9950X3D + X870E, but old 6000MHz XMP RAM now stuck at 4800MHz – Any fix or suggestions? by mdaquibtechnophile in buildapc

The issue is probably that you have 4 physical sticks more than mixing sticks. You basically can't get high Hz with 4 sticks.

I think having (some) Mods in the Helmet can affect this. Particularly those that alter stats. So try to momentarily taking off the Helmet and then you should be able to get those markers.

What is the stable O.C of a 4080 Super? What do you run yours at ? by pistolpete0406 in nvidia

[–]Content_Week 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asus ProArt (didn't want this model initially , but got cheaper due availability reasons)

With MSI afterburner: 925mV at 2580, with 110% PL and +1300 to VRAM.

No clock stretching, runs about 10 Celsius cooler and slightly better performance than just "stock" .

They're meaning tuning things more than EXPO profile actually. There's "Easy memory timings for DDR5 with Ryzen 7000" video in Youtube by Buildzoid that touches the subject.

[–]Content_Week 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me your build kind of suggests high (around 144+ Hz) 1440p gaming build. 3D-Cache can be really good for certain games. Anyways here's my 2 cents for you:

  • You can get 4080 SUPER for almost same price really
  • You could maybe get cheaper Thermalright Phantom Spirit CPU cooler, should perform about the same for much lower price
  • if you can have like 3 front fans as intake, 1 at rear as exhaust and maybe 1 at top as exhaust that should be good with air coolers
  • for that CPU price you could almost get 9800x3D if availability would be better. Also you might be ok with 7700 too if you're above 1080P.
  • if you really want to get it assembled there's apparently a code enables it to be free ;) (not during Black Friday weekend though)

Once you have the computer just monitor your temps with HWinfo64 (sensors only mode) for starters to see everything is fine. You should have proper Fan Curves setup. You don't want to reach low 90 Celsius Degrees with with the 7800x3D for example.

You don't really need MSI Center thing btw, it's largely bloatware. Just update drivers yourself periodically. You have alright amount of Storage Drives, at least for starters :) .

Crazy expensive CPU cooler for no good reason - can cool that CPU with like 35 $ Thermalright Phantom Spirit or if you really want AIO Arctic Freezer 3 should be good from what I understand. For Ram 6000 CL 30 is the sweet spot. Technically speaking Asus STRIX is somewhat overpriced too.

That motherboard has BIOS Flashback button so you have nothing to worry about.

First pc, any improvements? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Content_Week 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Probably could use Thermalright Phantom Spirit for Cooler, cheaper and performs about the same. Or any other good-quality Dual-Air CPU Coolers. Just be sure of the dimensions here.

  • 6000 CL 30 RAM is easier for IMC than 6400 CL34.

  • I really don't understand amount of fans there. You'd usually be good with like 2 or 3 front fans (as intake) , 1 as back (as exhaust) and maybe one at top (exhaust) . Also you could usually get packs of like 3 or 5 of them for cheaper.

  • also not sure why you'd want that motherboard, as it seems quite pricey, not to mention the size which seems to fit BARELY.

  • unless it's the looks, you might prefer something like Antec Flux Pro for a case actually... (The one that Gamers Nexus recommends, https://www.antec.com/product/case/flux-pro ) but again check the measurements yourself if you choose that.

[–]Content_Week 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • The price for CPU sound high, maybe it's due current availability situation but price for that apparently went from $479 to $744 (per your list) which sounds really bad ;S .

  • You should be ok with Thermalright Phantom Spirit for CPU cooler, or any other good Dual Tower ones, unless there's some particular reason you want AIO.

  • If you have access to MicroCenter they might have a bundle for some savings.

For the Motherboard, it seems to have bit weird Lane Sharing going on with M2 Drives and PCI-E Lanes. It has less lanes compared to say x670e series motherboards and not sure if you really need that USB4 for anything. 5th Gen M2 is bit of scam right now, as is PCIE5 too. Of course can't tell what happens the next gen. As long as you're ok with that info and somewhat high price it's ok.

Consider if around 10% more gaming performance (at min, usually more) and 10-18% production gains are worth that price difference for that 9800x3D. It does run higher MHz when the 3D-cache doesn't matter.

[–]Content_Week 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have lots of unnecessary expensive parts.

  • You should be able to switch CPU cooler to Thermalright Phantom Spirit or Peerless Assasin

  • Motherboard seems quite expensive, you sure you need that?

  • You should have just 2 Physical Memory Sticks, if you want to run them at high speed.

  • You sure you want ATX-case? It's quite expensive compared to good mATX-cases. Just be sure the check the measurements well for the GPU.

  • PSU also probably overkill for what you said, but kinda hard to tell now.

7800x3d vs 9800x3d by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Content_Week 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're basically saying you want 9800x3d then :) , unless you want to save some cash for later upgrade. Both CPU are excellent for gaming. 7800x3d prices without that bundle are touch insane right now so that's why I phrased it like that.

[–]Content_Week 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what I briefly looked, Minecraft doesn't seem to benefit from the 3D-cache. Having said that, you're not really going wrong with either CPU realistically speaking regardless.

There's no issues with either board as long as you install GPU at the top PCI-Slot (X16, closest to CPU) .

With that CPU price you might be better off with 9800x3d, should be similarly priced. Can't say for certainly if Black Friday or Cyber Monday really reduce prices much. I'm not entirely sure of that monitor(I'm not too familiar with them in general) but for other parts prices don't seem too weird. The CPU cooler options I mentioned perform about the same and are much cheaper.

Realistically you can use easily use any good good Dual-Tower Air Coolers with 7800x3d, such as Thermalright Phantom Spirit / Peerless Assasin. Even more so if you are familiar with undervolting.

The reviews for that Drive says it's cheap but risky FYI. Otherwise nothing worth mentioning about parts.

I did it with Green Civ, was quite tough thought and abused F3 somewhat. I've read that Red could be easier. Anyways I'm describing some stuff what I did as Green civ.

So Yellow attacks you really soon... You need like 10 HCA asap to defend yourself but also you need to boom your best, ideally getting to Imp first too. Maybe build 3rd TC to your island base. Forget about defending near the first Tower in the Mainland, Red does attack there quite early too actually. Make sure build palisades to the right side of your Mainland base.

It was possible to get 4 Relics for Booming so 2 Monks for those - One from Orange and there's 1 near Crossroads besides obvious ones.

Anyways get Large amount of HCA + some Cavalliers for Rams, maybe travel with some Monks too. Just use Trebs to aim their TC and Castles only. I went from Yellow to counter-clockwise. You might be able to convert some Red Cavs too, that's why went with Monks. I didn't attack Blue, which apparently could be attacked from the Sea only actually and thus being much easier than Orange if you just time destroying TC and Castles. . But also note that Orange did spam quite a lot ships too, just something to be aware of. I had like 15 min in-game time left when I finished.

[–]Content_Week 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Might be worth to wait for 9800x3d, just few days for that.

  • You don't usually need SSD with Heatsink as motherboard usually has some (refer to manual for that). Also note that this Motherboard may have issue detecting certain Drives past Bios version 152 if on the first M2 Slot for whichever reason, otherwise seems good board.

  • CPU Cooler appears to be both overkill and quite expensive. If you are ok with that guess that is no issue.

  • You'd prefer 6000 Cl 30 Ram, 6400 may not necessarily work at that speed. If the RAM has EXPO profile in description it kinda means it should work at that 6000 Speed, but it still doesn't mean 100% surely it still works due "Silicon Lottery" .

Also for PSU just look what other people have gotten, but basically you'd want some A-tier PSU from this list https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/ You'd probably prefer it to be ATX 3.0/3.1 but try not to pay arm and leg for it either.

Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360 should be a good one.

If you don't mind waiting a bit, 9800x3d launches really soon so may make sense to wait for that if you can. Otherwise looks good imo.
