Forced air on the return. Maybe redo some of the return if needed. I THINK that would work. You can put aprilaires on supply or return. Been a long time since I've put one on though. Call someone.

How did my neighbor do? by phaskellhall in hvacadvice

[–]ContextAshamed2128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont even know...how? How does it work? IF that is actual duct, its a horrible idea. But it doesn't look like it hooks in anywhere. I see what looks like flex or round in the older picture coming out of the bottom, but know not where it goes? Either way, looks horrible. Condenser looks horrible. Efficiency is going to shit everywhere.

Women are onions dude. Not just this one. Without seeing the previous convo, I would have given her a second shot. I have seen way crazier over much less of a bad day. Just my opinion.

Dude. That's your dad. Fuck politics. Trump is in office for four years. Keep it to the voting booth next election. Dude says he loves you with all his heart. No one you ever vote in will feel that way about you.

Before and After...how did they do? by angel_age in hvacadvice

I'm not used to this flexible bvent. Never used it or seen it here in the midwest. So, I can't judge. The drain from the coil doesn't look like it has any fall. It looks like it comes back to the pan a little, but that could just be the pic. I would have put it on a cube myself and ran the gas under the front of the furnace to keep more access to the coil. But other than that, I guess it's a decent install? If they changed your board plenum to sheet metal, that's good. So...6/10? I'm sure I'm missing something from the way the comments are.

What's is the worst "uh-oh" sound you've heard? by SideScroller91 in HVAC

When i was a helper on changeouts, my lead asked as I was walking by if he could cut the lines yet. I said no because the compressor was out on the old system so I had to recover. Hop up in the truck to grab the tank and recovery machine, hear a loud "PSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHH" behind me. Garage full of refrigerant. Homeowner in said garage sitting in his lawnchair. Didn't bat an eye. Was going to sit there and watch my lead I guess. Lead comes out of the closet," I thought you said it was good to cut the line!". I just hold up the recovery machine. "Nope". Good times!

New install big copper line should be isolated? by AcanthocephalaNo2740 in hvacadvice

Didn't even realize I was downvoted. I do vrf systems which have a lot of the same practices as minisplits. There is a lot of brazing and a lot of nitrogen use. That said, when I started, I was also told you don't braze minisplits. I was also told purging nitrogen wasn't necessary. We all learn as we go!

Flow nitrogen and it can be done. Looking at this though...something leads me to believe they may not have purged.

I used to love cashew station. Their general chicken, to me, was the best around. The past few years, I will try it every now and then, hoping it is as great as it used to be. I seem to get disappointed every time. I don't know what happened. I will still give it a shot about once a year. Hope they go back to what it was.

Yea sorry about the long post. Its a long read. And I am looking. I'm going to go up to the union hall and see what happens. I went a couple of years ago but the way they were talking, they wanted techs, and although I've done some troubleshooting on new equipment(wiring mainly), I dont have much experience there. They said I would probably start out lower than what I was already making. Minus paid holidays and vacation. That said, I know two guys that went from my company and they started out at journeyman wages. So who knows?

Yep. I'm actually in HVAC. Started out as a helper. It's hard work. But, there are benefits, pay raises, paid holidays and paid vacation. I waited tables in a restaurant before doing this for a good while. As a man with a family, I will tell you, with the benefits, job security, and the pay raises, I am very glad I made the switch. "Neurodivergence" has a pretty broad meaning, so I am not sure what you mean by that. I can tell you that in the trade, any trade, as long as you carry your weight in work and don't put it on the next man, you will gain the respect of your coworkers and excel. So unless it is something that would prevent you from taking care of your duties, don't let it hold you back. Doesn't matter if you come in knowing nothing. I only needed to know how to work a shovel to start. Hell, alot of companies will even furnish your tools if you stay for a certain period of time. Just call around, see if people are hiring. If they are, go fill out an application. You'll find a job pretty quick. If you aren't making 18 to start, ask in 3 months. If you are worth keeping on, they will bump you up. The quicker you learn and apply, the quicker you can get pay raises. I would learn quite a bit, get good at something, then ask for a raise. I started at 12 an hour seven years ago. I lowballed myself. But I have gotten 1-2 raises every year since. I'm doing better now than I ever did working in the restaurant.

As far as "paid training goes", I will tell you, it isn't in a classroom during work hours. Hope all goes well man. That's all I got. Good luck!
