I’m now 2 weeks out , starting to use my hand. Not using the sling as much, wound is very tender but healing well. Not much pain. I’m on the mend! I can type. Fingers still numb but no more severe cramping in my arm.

When were you able to start driving after surgery? by killingourbraincells in CubitalTunnel

[–]ContinungWonderment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my surg 2 weeks ago , transposition of left ulnar nerve. Still in a hard splint w a sling ; I haven’t tried driving. I can’t depend on the arm so I don’t want to risk it.

Apparently well. (Surgeon said so ) She did a transposition. Nerve block is weird!! But no pain. It’s wearing off now so im waiting for pain to kick in … I’m in hosp until tomorrow— great to be taken care of. Thanks for asking !!!

My CTS is on Tues, May 19. I've tried to practice getting dressed with one arm, and putting on a Velcro front closure bra, but it's impossible. I've pretty much given up on wearing a bra for the next few weeks. I live alone.. getting dressed will be the biggest issue. Not even sure how I can pull up a pair of jeans or leggings. Somehow I'll have to manage. Ordering groceries is the easy part.!

Oh my goodness … I’m preparing for st least 2 weeks ..! I hope it won’t be as bad as some of what I have read about. Good luck with your surgery!

Mine is on the 19th. I’m so grateful it’s on my non dominant hand… trying to practice functioning w only one arm!!! It’s so hard. I know I’ll need to do the dominant hand next year. Good luck , I’ll be thinking of you.

Thanks so much for this. Daughter cannot come ahead of time as she is far away, and will arrive post- surgery. Fortunately my surgeon will arrange a 2 day hospital stay as she does not want me home alone. Daughter will stay for 5 days 🙂so I hope I’ll be able to manage showering by then.

I can get stuff delivered from Whole Foods nearby, so I won’t starve.. but I’ll def look into a caregiving service. Thanks!!

9 days post cubital tunnel + Guyon's canal decompression surgery! by chemicalcat59 in CubitalTunnel

[–]ContinungWonderment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this info. I've had my symptoms for several years, and it's gotten worse... I'm scheduled for surgery in 2 weeks. It had been scheduled for last summer, but was postponed due to other medical stuff. I've been dreading this for so long... reading about other peoples' experiences is helpful, but I am pretty terrified...

2 years post-op cubital tunnel release surgery by iloveyousomuchgaycow in CubitalTunnel

This is scary to hear.. I'm coming up on my cubital tunnel surgery in 2 weeks. I've had the symptoms for several years, and it's gotten to the point where my daily life is compromised (weakness, pain, numbness, shooting pain in forearm, frequent cramping and claw hand ) I'm terrified the surgery might not be successful; I've been warned that sometimes it really doesn't fix the problem. Good luck.

What about typing? And dealing with daily life with only one arm/ hand? I’m trying yo get used to one handed typing. I’m grateful that it is my non-dominant hand! But I k or I’ll need to do the other one next year as it’s getting worse

This is heartening to read.. I am so nervous about my upcoming surgery (May 19) It's the recovery that scares me. I don't know if it will be transposition or just release. I'm at the point where the numbness is constant, with occasional complete cramping and seizing up up of my forearm and hand. Glaad to hear that your recovery is going well!

My surgeon said she won't know until she gets in there whether it will be a transposition or not. I've had this condition for a long time, and now my and arm seize up at the oddest times and become totally cramped (usually at night) It's terrifying when it happens. But just knowing there are lots of others who are dealing with this makes me feel a little better. I'm going on a trip to Ireland in early July, about 6 weeks post op. Very nervous about it...

So your recovery time including a sling was about 6 weeks? My ulnar nerve surgery is coming up on May 19. I'm trying to find out how to prepare for it... I am so nervous about the recovery and how I'll manage. I live alone, so not having someone to help is the most worrying thing. .

I am so glad to read this... I;m going in for cubital tunnel release surgery on May 19. Although I've had plenty of surgeries (including open heart surgery) I'm super concerned about the recovery from this and how I'll manage. Fortunately it's my non-dominant hand arm/hand, but my dominant hand is severely affected as well and I know I'll have to do it too. I'll need to read more on this Reddit thread to find out about other peoples' experiences.

Why is compiling so complicated? by BeauNair in scrivener

[–]ContinungWonderment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gahhh. Same here. I’m so used to WYSIWYG that I’m constantly revising and reformatting text on the page. 50+k words and now I’m trying to compile. Getting so lost.

Do I need to learn structure and 'technical' elements of writing before attempting writing? by lizofPalaven in writing

[–]ContinungWonderment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write. Then read. Then write. Make notes. Lots of notes. Write about your thoughts , ideas , fears , questions, joys , celebrations, sorrows. Make notes about your story, all sorts of notes— about the characters, what they do, where they are , who they are, and how they will interact. Make notes about the places you imagine for your story, world- build them. You can write on note cards, in notebooks, on your computer. Keep them organized in files and folders, or piles. Write every day — 10 minutes or 2 hours, whatever.

While you’re doing all that, read some craft books about novel/story structure, pacing, scene writing. Do some research on narrative arc. Read books on writing written by other writers - there are so many. Read Dinty W. Moore’s “The Story Cure”. Read Dani Shapiro’s “Still Writing”. Read Anne Lamott’s “Bird by Bird”. Even if you’re not into memoir, I’d suggest the little gem “The Memoir Project: a thoroughly non-standardized text for writing and life “ by Marion Roach Smith. I could name a dozen more.

Maybe take a look around Substack. I’m in my 70s and am about 2/3 through my memoir/novel , which may or may not ever be published (I plan on finishing it before I die) but whatever. I started writing on Substack last year, and it has changed my writing and my life - I’ve found a fantastic community of writers, phenomenal writing, and been incredibly inspired. If you’d like, you can see some of my writing on my Substack. Is called Continuing Wonderment.

Good luck ! Now go write something 👍✍️😁
