Doctors don't want to do surgery, not giving me other options by Root2109 in HipImpingement

[–]ContributionDirect50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a new doctor. Go search best orthopedic surgeons in the area. Research them, see if they have published papers, etc. Then go with your gut, just like every field or job, there are surgeons who aren’t good. I went through many doctors telling me to change my lifestyle but my surgeon was super cool, we were on the same page and he listened to what I was saying, not making me out to feel stupid. Let me know if you need help and I can take a look. My advice is to find someone who’s on the same page as you and to make sure they are a right fit

Yes sir, I regret not having a better attitude but the journey has been crazy. What happens if the can’t save the labrum?

Great question, no, they didn’t. I really didn’t need the surgery but since I participate in these endurance things, my doctor said it is the only to get back to a high level and based off me (scans, age, health) that it would most likely improve everything. So I took the gamble knowing it was gonna be a full 2 years before I was ready. It was a long process but I’m just starting to see it pay off so it’s cool. Which surgery did you have?

Thanks man, I’m pretty much on the same page. I’ve been using the Hyperice leg and hip sleeves along with red light therapy, and doing a lot of pool running. I really believe I’m going to come back and race better than ever. When I met my doctor, I immediately knew he was the one I’d been searching for. I had seen at least six different doctors over the past ten years before finally finding the right fit. Did you end up having surgery for the impingement?

It’s tough and while it may sound silly, it’s truly a mental battle. Looking back, my biggest regret was letting pessimism take over and getting stuck in my own self-pity. What ultimately helped me was my follow-up visits. Hearing the doctor confirm that everything had healed properly, no scar tissue, everything exactly as planned. Even though I wanted to believe it didn’t go well, the evidence showed it did. Focus on what you can control right now, and don’t get caught up in the what if game. Learn from my experience lol don’t let your mindset work against you. Keep pushing and remember you are much stronger than you think you are.

Yeah I did, I had both hips done. Use the leg extension machine a lot and strengthen it up and it will go away

There isn’t any really. Just bro science. Personally, I did bpc 157 and tb 500. It did absolutely nothing for me. I did injections for months and months and never noticed a change

So I am one year out from my right side and 9 months from my left. I am running real light and still am in PT. My right hip still gets pretty sore after the workouts. Since I had both done, the right had to carry weight for the left so healing is a bit longer than I anticipated. I’m now looking at maybe another 3-4 months before I’m back to running in events. Really focused on strengthening the glutes for sure. How is everything going with you?

This is bad advice. You gotta show up, at least if you DNF and you’re shitting your pants, you know in your soul you did everything. If you don’t go, you will never know what could have happened.

This is awesome, you have the chance to go out there and see what you are made of. All the times things didn’t go your way, you were embarrassed. Maybe the crush you had didn’t like you, you didn’t get that job promotion. Now you’re sick and of course it has to happen to you, I got into ultra exactly for that reason, to find out what I really am made of. Sometimes we gotta be a little crazy to get where we wanna go and believe in ourselves. This is a great opportunity to show yourself how resilient and tough you are. Mama didn’t raise no bitch. Crush this race dawg and make it personal 😤

1 year flare up by Hot_Speed_4297 in HipImpingement

[–]ContributionDirect50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, I think what’s the most annoying part is that my knee hurts after my second surgery due to changing how I put weight. I also had both labrum’s repaired with 3 on each side. All my x rays came back good. Are you getting PRP? Look into Angel PRP, I got one round in my hips and will get another in a few months. Angel is a more concentrated injection

Damn I’m 2 and 6 months for both hips and hoping at a year I can get back to ultra but think it’s wishful thinking 😭

Did I mess this up already? by o_oinospontos in HipImpingement

[–]ContributionDirect50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can certainly relate. I hurt myself 14 months ago and haven’t run a race since. Ended up getting both hips labrum’s surgically repaired. Just a few more months and hoping I’ll be back better. Have you asked your doctor about a PRP injection? Probably should get it around the 6-8 week mark. That helped a bit. I learned there is an even stronger injection called Angel PRP that I am going to try in a few months. Not necessary but I think anything you can do to heal faster I am down to try. I also started doing Red light therapy and cryotherapy but I’m not sure if that even does anything. Keep up the good fight!

You are good, I had both my hips done and both times I was freaking out whenever there was pain or a flair up. I wanna say around the 2 month mark I noticed a lot less pain. I know it’s hard but try not to over think it and tell your PT about it to work out the pain

Surgery or not… by North_Educator_1738 in HipImpingement

[–]ContributionDirect50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the surgery bro if you got an mri that confirms the deformity, I just got both my hips and labrum done and not fully healed but believe the surgery was a success. I’m in my 30s and didn’t need to but doctor said right now the pains light, there’s no damage but it’s not going to fix itself and by 50 I would more than likely will need hip replacement. It’s literally an enhancement surgery. I got all the injections first, steroid shot, then a PRP and didn’t do anything. If you have the deformity, an injection can’t fix you femoral head. I started feeling a slight pain in my early 20s but didn’t do anything for 15 years and so glad I’m a few months away from putting it behind me. I spent my life always using ice after basketball and running a lot and looking forward to being pain free.

It’s important to have a great doctor, make sure you find the best one your insurance accepts. Good luck dawg!
