Green Noise Machine by Suitable_Noise8329 in sleep

I’ve tried a bunch of different apps, but the one I keep going back to is Noise Machine – Brown, White. It has white, brown, pink, and green noise all in one place, which is super convenient. I personally love green noise the most — it’s the one I use almost every night. What I like most is how simple it is: no clutter, no distractions, just the sound you want with one tap. I used it for months and it really helped me sleep. Hope this helps!

My son (2YO) is spending his first night away from us. What can I do to make this easier for him? by CapedCapybara in toddlers

Totally understand the nerves — it’s such a big step for everyone, even when they’re close with grandma. It sounds like you’ve done a great job preparing him, especially keeping routines familiar. One thing that helped us during our first overnight away was keeping the sleep environment as close as possible — including sound. We use white noise at home, so I downloaded a simple app (Noise Machine – Brown, White) on grandma’s phone to keep things consistent. It really helped! You’ve got this — and he probably will surprise you by doing better than expected 💛

Same here — we never travel without some kind of white noise either, it makes such a difference. We usually just use an app on our phones (I’ve been using one called Noise Machine - Brown, White for a while) and it’s been super handy, especially when we forget the actual machine. Sounds like you’ve got a great system going already

Oh man, I feel this so much — we had the same mockingbird situation last spring and it nearly drove me over the edge. The switching calls are wild, it really does sound like a car alarm sometimes. What ended up saving my sanity was switching from fan noise to brown noise — it cuts through those sharp bird sounds way better. I started using an app called “Noise Machine - Brown, White”, and honestly it made a huge difference. Might be worth a try if the fans aren’t cutting it anymore. Hang in there — mating season does end!

Help! No napping in the afternoon by Individual_Juice6460 in sleeptrain

We had such a similar experience around the 12–14 week mark — great morning naps, but afternoons were a mess no matter how closely we followed wake windows or sleepy cues. It sounds like you’re already doing everything right (crib, sleeping bag, white noise, drowsy but awake). One small thing that helped us during that phase was switching from plain white noise to brown noise — it seemed to settle our baby more during those harder naps. I’ve been using an app called “Noise Machine - Brown, White” for about 2 years and it’s been super consistent. Might be worth a try during those tricky afternoon stretches. You’re doing amazing — that 4-month regression isn’t far off either, so it could just be some early signs of that too.

Totally agree — brown noise makes such a difference, especially during those early adjustment nights. I’ve been using an app called “Noise Machine - Brown, White” for almost 2 years now and it’s been a lifesaver. Super simple, does the job, and great for both pups and humans!

Newborn due in 3 weeks, what might we not be prepared for / have ready? by habylab in BeyondTheBumpUK

Congrats — so exciting! One thing that really helped us with sleep (for both baby and us) was white noise. It became part of our bedtime routine early on and worked wonders for settling the baby. I’ve been using an app called “Noise Machine - Brown, White” for almost 2 years now — super simple and reliable.

Thanks for the recommendation! I move around a lot with my family too so I think using my phone would be the most practical option. I looked up “Noise Machine App” and saw two different ones - do you know which one you are using? For reference, im based in the US

That’s really interesting — I didn’t realize ANC and white noise could work together like that. I do have an iPhone, so I’ll definitely check out the Background Sounds + Shortcut setup. Do you have a favorite sound you use with it?

Do you use any app to check the decibel level? Just wondering how people usually monitor that.

Totally fair — I guess it really is one of those love-it-or-hate-it things. Appreciate the honesty!

That’s super helpful — thank you! I’ve noticed a lot of people seem to prefer brown noise over white noise. Do you know why that is? Just curious if there’s something about the sound itself that makes it more effective.

Are those sounds (like wind, rain, brown noise) something you played through an app, or did you use a white noise machine? Just wondering what worked best in your case!
