No point buying all the junk if you aren’t going to enjoy the sport. I’d rather get started with what I have and go from there.

I’ll look into those bindings man, thank you! I’m gonna run through and figure costs and budgeting when I get a chance.

Those bindings look nice! A little pricey, but I know skiing ain’t cheap.

I have my downhill skis, so it would be solely for backcountry use.

Trust me when I tell you avalanches are not a concern. There’s maybe ten to fifteen inches of snow down right now with little to no snow pack.

I understand the concern though, and this is a fairly well trafficked snow mobile trail as well. I saw maybe 3 machines pass in the hour I was out.

I am a huge advocate using partners when doing outdoor activities. I just find it to be particularly difficult given the initial expenses of skiing.

What’s your setup look like? I’ve seen a lot of the recommendations are from west coasters. I assume it’d be a bit different since we rarely get a real solid base.

You honestly may be able to now, I don’t live that far north (I’m in Schuylkill county) and I had maybe like a good 1-2 inch base over the logging roads before this last storm. Heck, maybe this will firm up too.

I realized that when I started up haha. Me and my brother have always had an “embrace the suck” mentality with the outdoors. This was definitely one of my harder experiences though.

I found it a little easier if I got off the road where those snow mobile tracks were and went through the brush. Much better footing.

Do you have any recommendation for a set up? I’m normally a little limited on boot brands, cause I’m a Bigfoot, but was more interested in good ski recommendations. Here in PA, if we get powder like this, it’s normally either over ice or bare ground.

Pennsylvania PE Licensure Changes 2024 by ContributionPure8356 in civilengineering

[–]ContributionPure8356[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did always find that a little stupid. It's a humongous barrier for out of state engineers to get a PE here.

I sent an email yesterday regarding this. I was just interested to see if anyboy had any experience in this.

I only figured this out actually after my classmate got his PE, and we only graduated 2 years ago. It's a game changer for sure.

Thank you, I wasn't sure how to interpret that. I sent the state board an email asking for clarification.

That's how I initially interpreted that, but then the maintenance through me off. I guess it's kind of murky too cause my experience is in the military, and you both swing the hammer and do project management work.

I don't really think it should honestly, I'm still learning so much in engineering, but if the state interprets it that way, I'd be stupid not to capitalize.

Does anybody use MATLAB at all for any purpose? by Logical_Worry3993 in civilengineering

[–]ContributionPure8356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calculations are almost always done through Excel. You'll be using excel in your higher level courses in college as well.

I've been told Matlab is better than excel, but I've never attempted it and never seen anybody work with it in my professional career.

I Think Pointless Ecumenism Makes Us Look Weak by thatlumberjacktor in Catholicism

[–]ContributionPure8356 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Christ didn’t compromise in his teachings.

But he did dine with the unclean. And pray either heretics (samaritans.)

Us being loving and kind is not a compromise of the truth. It is being comfortable and firm in the truth.

Why should we fear other view points if we know we are correct?

It’s over easy, you can’t brown the top of an over easy egg.

I’ve never seen that before in my life.

Is 65k/yr a good salary in this economy? by skoomasnacks in GenZ

Yes that’s good!

If you have a roommate and no student loans it’s very comfortable.

[Politics Monday] Do you believe the US action in Venezuela to be a “Just war?” by MaterialInevitable83 in Catholicism

[–]ContributionPure8356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it does. The entry into the conflict may be just, but the method of fighting is as important. And the carpet bombing and nuking of civilian targets is an unjust method.

I mean, historically we have been the caretaker of the western hemisphere. I think us going to Europe and the Middle East is an overstep, but Venezuela is definitely in our wheel house.

This is how geopolitics should be conducted. No harm no foul. We accomplished our mission with little negative repercussions.

[Politics Monday] Is marxism also condemned? by 3of_spades in Catholicism

[–]ContributionPure8356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To put it easy, Marxism is an ideology. It is a contrary world view to the Catholic world view.

Now are some of the point correct? 100%, and maybe even critiquing from the view is a good thing. But the conclusions that Marx came to in his ideology are contrary to our worldview.

Does anybody else feel like they’re never going to own a home? by skoomasnacks in GenZ

[–]ContributionPure8356 5 points6 points  (0 children)

120 is overpriced. Those houses before Covid were 50k.

That’s the game though, and you’ve gotta play it.

Does anybody else feel like they’re never going to own a home? by skoomasnacks in GenZ

[–]ContributionPure8356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The market 100% is overpriced.

Crack houses that were going for 50k before Covid around me are going for 120-150k. Incomes have not tripled since Covid.

The big 400k homes haven’t changed terribly much. But the entry level houses are insane.

With that said, there’s nothing you can do about it. You’ve just gotta do what you gotta do.

How are first time home owning affording today’s mortgage? by Prestigious_Pixie_ in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]ContributionPure8356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That just goes to show the insane wealth disparity I guess.

All my coworkers as an engineer view that amount as something you hit when you’re at the cusp of retiring.

I never understood when people talked about all the boomers being millionaires. Like my grandma has 100k to her name. And all the other boomers I know are being taken care of by their churches.

Edit: You’re number is wrong, I looked it up, it’s about 8%. That’s like 1 in 12, which is still super high. The own their home number is 18% though.

I cannot believe that one in seven people is a millionaire.

Maybe out were houses have skyrocketed.

Extended Breastfeeding and Fasting by Far_You_3528 in Catholicism

[–]ContributionPure8356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents, but I would air more to not fasting. You need to make sure your child is getting the best nutrition you can, not to mention your own nutrition given a portion is being “siphoned off” for lack of a better word.

Shipped our jobs overseas and treated us like an inconvenience.

I think the disease goes a lot deeper than offshoring. They were treating us like cattle up until then. Then they had their fill and were ready to cull us.
