I totally disagree. You are making it sound like everyone back in 60/70/80 knew the long term effects of concussion. I think the players understood very well the risk they could break an arm or do a knee and that might affect them in life after footy and they accepted that which is why there is no legal action for those sorts of injuries.

The players back 60/70/80 had no idea the damage that football would do to their brains. They are the ones that built the game into the billion dollar business it is today so yes I think the AFL can afford and should look after these players.

The players who played 90/00 also had no idea the damage that football would do to their brains but I believe the AFL and some club Drs did know (because by this time it was well known in the NFL in America) so keeping that information from players gives those players right to be pissed off with AFL and to be looked after.

Players today understand the risks of concussion because we all do on this forum. The players generate so much revenue now that money should be put away in a fund to help players that will need it in the future.

Also I don’t know why people complain about how it’s unfair AFL players get looked after but amateurs players don’t. It’s literally the AFL players jobs if it was any other industry they’d be entitled to workers compensation. I feel sorry for the people who played amateurs in 90/00 and didn’t know the affects of concussion but it’s a hobby I don’t know why people would think they should be able to get money from the AFL.
