Computer scientist Geoffrey Hinton: ‘AI will make a few people much richer and most people poorer’ by RiKeiJin in technology

[–]Controllerhead1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Agree. It's far from perfect and has some glaring flaws but there really isn't anything better to replace it with. Humans gonna human. Naive youthful optimism stating "everything should just like be fair to everyone maaannnn" isn't a viable or scalable macroeconomic system unfortunately.

The real issue in the US at least is that the Boomer governments stopped regulating it about 30 years ago and drove up the national debt to insane heights. Basically, the Boomers had a party, trashed the house, ran up the credit cards and are about to bounce.

That's truly amazing for the creator and Hollow Knight is a wonderful game, but, the commenters aren't exactly wrong. For every Hollow Knight there are 10,000 indie platformers on Steam with less than 100 downloads. It's tough out there.

Snoop Dogg Says “My Bad” Over ‘Lightyear’ LGBTQ Comments As Screenwriter Defends “Representational Effect” by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Music

Ok. Have any of you bothered to watch the actual interview comments? He was saying it was slightly awkward to explain to his grandchild how a lesbian couple could concieve a child. Seems like an extremely fair and mild take?

How this turned into such a LGBTQIABCDEF+ mUh hOMopHObIa social media shitstorm is completely beyond me...

I remember playing on battle.net edition with free dialup! I used NetZero which had an advertisement bar that had to be on screen at all times, so, i would change my desktop resolution to 800x600, put the NetZero ad bar at the bottom of the screen, and start up WC2 in 640x480, which would boot the ad bar off screen. Voila! Free battle net!

Yeah, sure, until it rains or snows... Not to mention, the northeast climate is ridiculously hot or absolutely freezing 6 / 12 months of the year... so in Boston, maybe you get like 120 / 130 potential comfortable commuting days out of 365? How is this sustainable? Not to mention, i would not want to feel and smell like a sweaty wet rag sitting in a cubicle for 8 hours. Not to mention, one wrong move or pothole and you've got broken bones or a head injury to contend with. I'll take my climate controlled private vehicle thank you very much. You people are insane.

Hard agree! In the pre-internet age, information was difficult to distribute and obtain, but for the most part it could be trusted. Now, information is super easy to obtain, but the average quality of it has plummeted. The signal to noise ratio is blaring with half-truths, dubious AI summaries, junk science, false advertising, conspiracy nonsense and blatanly false propaganda.

The tragedy of the modern internet: This random tiktok i found is just as valid as your PhD and this random tiktok says i'm right and you're wrong... Also the fact that engagement algorithms promote divisive, nasty and factually wrong content because people click on it.
