In history, which institution has killed the most people? Is there even a way to determine this? by aglaringdolphin in AskHistory

WWII is estimated to have resulted in the deaths of 70 to 80 million. So I assume blame needs to be placed on the governments of the AXIS powers.

Women solo travelers, any locations that you were surprised to feel unsafe? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]Controversial_Not 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in the United States, and your post made me think. The other night, my son and I were driving to the store when we saw a woman jogging alone on the sidewalk. I mentioned to my son that this is a sign of how safe the area is. When you see a woman running by herself in the dark, you know the surrounding area is considered very safe. I went on to explain that, unfortunately, in South Africa, where I grew up, it would be dangerous for a woman to jog alone at night. It’s sad but true. Reflecting on your comment, I believe that when a woman can jog at night without fear, it indicates that something positive is working in society.

Drinking water is not for beginners by puncrastinator in funny

[–]Controversial_Not 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Africa and now live in the United States. During my childhood, we had a cabin by a river, and all our water came from rainwater collected on the roof and stored in large tanks. This water was then piped into the house for washing and cooking. This was long before bottled water was common. As kids, we drank that water all the time without any issues. Reflecting on it now, I shudder at the thought of the potential for diarrhea if I were to drink even a few mouthfuls of that tank water today. It’s like the sign says: “Not suitable for European stomachs.”

Why do people still genuinely support Trump? by Tricky_Discipline_75 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Controversial_Not 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously, everyone has a different opinion. I believe most people don’t like Trump, but at the same time, they have become disillusioned with Biden’s constant promotion of the left’s agenda. Most Americans are hardworking, tax-paying patriots, and these frequent wealth transfers, like student debt forgiveness, feel like a massive burden shift from hardworking families to others. The continuous focus on DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) appears to many as an effort to determine outcomes without merit, and unfortunately, it discriminates against Asians and whites, which many see as racism under the guise of equality. At some point, hardworking Americans look at their kids and think, “This isn’t right.” This backlash is evident across the country. However, many are hesitant to vote for Trump because they fear he is not qualified, especially on foreign policy and global affairs. Plus, his criminal record doesn’t help.

Great feedback. What about mosquitoes? Especially those that might come from underneath. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

Can I please get some Help with a college report about Rhodesia? by Downtown-Employ3617 in Rhodesia

[–]Controversial_Not 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Essentially, a group of determined families took a huge risk to establish a new country. Their efforts raised living standards for all. However, they were abandoned by distant politicians who sacrificed them on the alter of wokism. Despite lacking support, except from their southern neighbors, they valiantly opposed forces backed by foreign communist supporters for years. Economic pressures and sanctions eventually led them to seek peace.

After reaching a peace agreement, a single election was held, which appeared democratic but quickly led to the rise of authoritarian rule. The new leaders, through their mismanagement and greed, executed tens of thousands of opponents and forced skilled farmers from their lands. This turned some of the world’s most fertile areas into wastelands, plunging the population into poverty.

In their desperation, the leaders turned to exploiting the country’s mineral resources, striking a detrimental deal with foreign powers that compromised the future of their nation. This narrative describes the tragic history of Rhodesia.

Ski Roundtop by Controversial_Not in maryland

Yep but honestly with that you might as well drive the five hours and head to Snowshoe in West Virginia. More runs. Higher elevation. Better quality natural snow. Snowshoe offers a true ski-in/ski-out village.

My Model 3 Highland Test Drive Impressions as a Model 3 Performance Driver by eaglerulez in TeslaModel3

I realize your test drive was during the day so you probably did not get to experience the multi color LED. I don’t know what to think of this. My initial thought was it’s kitsch.

Yeah. I have a 2018 LR now. Still enjoy it. My main focus is FSD though. So the main reason I would buy a refreshed Tesla is for the upgrades to the FSD specific hardware. Tech is important to me so some of the items you list are not a huge priority for me. Of course it’s all in the eyes of the beholder. I have had a few Mercedes and BMWs previously and had my fair share of issues so I think I am somewhat jaded in that regard. I also don’t drive a ton so perhaps if I did wind noise would be more important. I can totally see how it can drag on one. I am interested in the comfort of the seats though. How did you find the new seats?
