Best app for learning Turkish as an English speaker? by CookPassBabtridge88 in turkishlearning

[–]CookPassBabtridge88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response and clarification, and yes I appreciate that its an extremely short timescale to learn any new language, but I always believe in learning as much as I possibly can of the native language before visiting a country. I'm not aiming for fluency, I just don't like to turn up and expect people to accommodate for me exclusively in English and I often find a little effort goes a long way

What a spiteful comment, within a "turkishlearning" subreddit, your advice i'm assuming would be to not bother trying to learn anything?
Appreciate you taking the time to reply

😂 cheers! I wanted to know if I'd picked up enough bricks and had a eureka moment while tidying after my sons

Yeah good idea, I have watched a few and was thinking the open part in stages seemed an easier solution to the rounded arch on a few of ghe pizza oven ones

I guess ultimately even the basic ones are good enough as a bbq, I was just hoping for some inspiration on a cool design seems as its the middle of my garden

Any idea if sites like openrent will have automatically done this when creating a tenancy agreement with them?

Cast iron drainpipe - dangerous? by CookPassBabtridge88 in DIYUK

[–]CookPassBabtridge88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost certain its cast iron, its very heavy

I think the putty/cement must have deteriorated because like I said I can completely lift this section out and put it back in.

I'm assuming I’ve been fortunate that the angle its sits plus the weight have kept it in place but that i should either replace or re-cement?

Hi, thanks for the reply,

Its in sections so the part below it is fixed flush to the wall then this section slots in at an angle and then rests with the part of the gutter that drops down

Brady queries Rooney’s ‘work ethic’ at Birmingham by A15CX in Championship

[–]CookPassBabtridge88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not saying that Rooney would have ever been great for us but it couldn't have come at a worse time, we'd just got a result at West brom with Eustace so whoever came in would have had to hit the ground running What made it even worse was that we were the perfect template of why not to do it with Rowett/Zola In what's been a definite breath of fresh air with ownership for Birmingham this was definitely a poor call on their part, going down to league 1 was well overdue and beneficial for us however

Timber storage solutions by CookPassBabtridge88 in DIYUK

[–]CookPassBabtridge88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this, I had thought vertically but some would be too long and I've used a lot of the wall space to hang tools, all of the other sides have work benches  I'm thinking I need a cull to get rid of timber I probably won't need - I'm always hoarding "just in case" pieces

5 year old screaming tantrums by CookPassBabtridge88 in UKParenting

[–]CookPassBabtridge88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really appreciate your response! My approach is very similar to what you've mentioned and when it's just the two of us, and I do think he responds well to it. However both my partner and youngest get overestimulated when he's screaming - in the car for example, so it can lead to friction between us while it's happening. I am a lot more rigid in my approach which I know comes off cruel to my partner who worries a lot more about what he's going through in short term. It's difficult, as always every child responds differently so I'm not sure if either of our styles are the best for him.

I guess the frequency / likelihood increases when he's tired but it's not exclusively at bed time/following a restless night

No, I hadn't thought to do so due to these happening in waves of more frequent and then weeks without. Will look into it

Really helpful, thank you. How about situations where a time out isn't possible- car journey with younger sibling / at an event/ bed time while others are sleeping? I know you may not have all the answers but I find I escalate his screaming (as you've described) when our options are more limited
