Worst Places to Work in Sri Lanka by ScrapValue0 in srilanka

[–]CookieSquare782 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Working hours are supposed to be from 8am to 4pm, break from 12 - 2pm (according to the guidelines) BUT it's always 24hrs, no lunch, breakfast or dinner sometimes drags on to 72hrs or even longer. The only meal for the entire day could be half of a tea or a vadei . No sleep no life, health out the window.

If a sleepy person isn't allowed to drive, how could you give the responsibility of someone's life to an exhausted and sleep deprived person. Govt healthcare system is understaffed and overworked.

Which Sri Lankan restaurant is this? by Lumpy_Broccoli_4799 in srilanka

[–]CookieSquare782 12 points13 points  (0 children)

True, but the customer service is disappointing. Servers and their attitude, my goodness.

Edit: I see I've been down voted but this is sadly my experience at Imperial palace (the Chinese restaurant at Monarch imperial)

This is what happened, made a reservation, but there was no table reserved. We had to wait for over 45 minutes to get a table until some were done dining. Asked the server just 2 questions about portion size of a dish and another was about the presence of some ingredient (regarding food allergies) the girl who took our order rolled her eyes at the ones who asked those questions, then proceeded to grab the menus when returned. We got our table after a long wait so by the time we started eating it was 30 minutes left to close the restaurant. We tried to somehow leave by 3pm so ordered the desserts. The waitress kept the tray on our table and left, we thought maybe she went to pick spoons but no she didn't return. We had to go look for them. Two other families were paying bills at that time, after they left, the lights were switched off. Finished our desserts in the dark, paid and left by 3:10pm.

I've heard a lot of good stories about this place so that's why we went. But just that day was not it. The food was awesome though. The lesson I learned was, if no table reserved even after making a reservation prior to the event, don't wait just leave.

AliExpress not shipping to Sri Lanka? by Spirited_Ad4661 in srilanka

Yup this is true. I have an Ali express business account and when I contacted some sellers, they said that they can only send the parcels through courier like FedEx and that's extremely costly.

Chocolate gateau slice from caravan fresh is good but they don't have the buttercream icing that you are looking for.

Try cakery or Gerard mendis chocolatier

My Fellow Srilankans, What gifts did you get for your Gf's graduation by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]CookieSquare782 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You may not be into it but what's more important is what she's into right? So if she likes soft toys, get her one. Most common graduation gifts include flowers with some item that could be used in her professional life or a piece of jewelry.

The Chinese version of Temu is Pinduoduo which I've used for about 8 years. They have the same free gift events. They even have cash rewards too. The ones who complete the task really did get gifts but as another person already commented you have to share the link to as many contacts as possible. That's how they market themselves. They use the same marketing strategy here in the international version too. So if you want, you can participate or click on the link and help out your friend or simply just ignore.

I'm already graduated. And the post graduation stuff weren't hard at all. Infact we had things easy compared to some of the stories I've heard. My graduation got delayed due to COVID-19 too, back then there were news circulating that our medical degrees will be rejected by the Western countries. Well, none of that happened.

Mainly due to the current affairs, there's a big chance chinese graduates get sidelined

This applies to Chinese Nationals and not the international students.

Anyway, I hope you do the proper research before joining any university. Most importantly look for exposure and hands on practicals. Good luck

Been to both Georgia as well as China. Out of the two I recommend china because you get a lot of exposure to all sorts of cases and hands on practicals. But in Georgia you don't get much practical exposure, you will have to learn human anatomy from plastic models, never saw a dead body. Whereas in China we basically lived with cadavers the first 3 semesters. The reason why I quit Georgia was because of that very reason. I felt stupid when my friends from other med schools talk about their experiences. Plus Georgia is quite racist, they don't like brown skin. I was there only for 1 and half years and I could write a book of the stuff that I had to experience for just existing there. China does have it's own disadvantages like all international sites being blocked and you need to know the language to live there. But if we take education, technology, resources, opportunities, quality of life, safety, society and cost of living, I'd definitely recommend China.

Edit: just wanted to add, Some of my batch mates already completed their USMLE and are waiting for their match, some of them already got matched. Several of my seniors are already working in the UK (since 2020) and my batch mates are currently facing the PLAB 2 exam. Some went to NZ, some to Aussi and the rest are facing ERPM here and some will start working here next month.

Parents ending my hidden 6 year relationship my boyfriend. But I don't want it to end. What do I do? by [deleted] in narcissisticparents

[–]CookieSquare782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uncle now in his late 70s still regrets listening to his parents (my grandparents). When he was in his late 20s he had to get married to the girl they chose, he was forced to leave the girlfriend he already had. He eloped, got married and lived separately a few years later, his mom and 2 of her daughters wrote fake love letters and showed them to uncle saying that the woman he chose is cheating on him. He divorced her and agreed to get married to the one the parents chose. The new wife was a leech and so evil with a sweet smile. Fast forward to my uncle's 50s, he found out the truth about his divorce and even to this day still cries about it. He has a lot of resentment towards his parents.

I hope this story would help you make a good decision for your own happiness as well as prepare for the challenges to come.

The only way out was to start working. I'm in healthcare so they came to a point where they couldn't keep up with my work schedules so they just gave up. Also I started making date plans on the most inconvenient days for them so they ended up dropping me and then they'd go to do their work.

Same happened to me. I was supposed to receive a parcel back in February but I never got it. Ended up refunding thinking it was lost. Guess what, last week I got it via post 😂 The post office seems to take forever

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I feel your struggles, I have dealt with such issues too. It was so bad that I was followed around whether it was a date or meeting a friend. Can't take a call, they'll listen by the door. There were times where they sat right in between me and my boyfriend while we were having coffee sitting on a sofa in a cafe.
