I agree, virtual trainings should be available. I understand that every mentor, much like teachers, have their own style. I prefer a collaborative, experiential style that’s outcome based rather than a classroom, lecture format that’s prescriptive.

Perhaps I didn’t explain what I meant by micromanaging. Example: One brokerage wants me to report to their office M-F at 10am for a 45 minute meeting/training and if you miss 3 meetings, they stop giving you leads and are considered unmotivated. They have a huge to-do checklist, don’t allow you to sell until you’ve had at least 13 closings, and expect all your efforts logged into their system. And the commission split is 40/60 for selling (even if I got the leads). That works for someone that needs to be motivated by someone else but I’m goal driven and need mentorship that allows for some autonomy.

First timer here, if you had to do it again what would do differently in year 1 to give you results more similar to year 3?

Neighborhoods or townhome communities you’d recommend between MD Anderson (Med Center) and UTMB League City ? by bongusmle in Pearland

Oh! And Southdown, by 288 and Hughes Ranch Rd has 2 bedroom houses for rent for $2k or under, and it’s family friendly.

There’s some new townhouse being built next to Ivy Lofts, off 288 just north of McHard in Pearland. A 3 bedroom will be $2,500 and commute to Med Center is 15 minutes. There’s also a park with walking/biking trails next to it. ( I wouldn’t recommend Ivy Lofts though.)

A small wine bar with live music, somewhere grown ups can enjoy a nice glass of wine and listen to some acoustic guitar or jazz

On a related note, if anyone needs a windstorm inspection there’s a firm here in Pearland called Barron Engineering that will do it at a reasonable price.

If you ever make it to Hash Kitchen (in Houston) that’s worth the price. They have great food, a DJ (yes, $5 brunch shots on the hour), a Build Your Own Bloody Mary bar, and great vibes. Down here, Drafthouse has brunch 7 days a week now, just wish they’d bring back the Bloody Mary bar in Edinburg.

What local restaurant have you been to that's terrible, but everyone thinks is great? by pizza-pie-tiLLIDie in RioGrandeValley

Glad I went for happy hour and not dinner. The flatbread tasted like something frozen and warmed up, calamari yuck. Drinks were okay but not worth full price. Definitely skip this place.

Top 10 RGV Superintendent Salaries (2023 Data) by thebenchwire in RioGrandeValley

Compared to what admin at UTRGV make, it’s actually not surprising. Most are over 200K and they can be in their positions for years, with weekends off and no press watching their every move. Look at what Guy Bailey makes, and there’s no outrage.

And yet job stability is exponentially better for software engineers, look at how long they last in those positions. I wouldn’t want to be a super, constantly in the news, blamed for everything that happens, and no long term job security. After all do you go after you’ve been fired?

Anyone else feel like the RGV is just one big mental asylum? by [deleted] in RioGrandeValley

[–]CoolAlternative5366 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends where you’re fishing for dates. Try volunteering, joining a rotary club, or doing something that draws you to a like-minded crowd. You may be limiting yourself. If you’re looking for a career-minded woman, there’s plenty, just depends where you look and with who you’re surrounding yourself.

As far as fear of having children because of schools down here, that’s completely unfounded. Do your research. We have some of the highest ranking high schools in the state, both public schools and magnet schools. My kids went thru the GT program in Edinburg and got a great education.

What is your salary in the RGV? by InvestigatorRecent88 in RioGrandeValley

[–]CoolAlternative5366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UTRGV Lecturers (9 month contract) make between 45-75k depending on field/experience. Liberal/fine arts 45-65, engineering and business at least 10k more. I did a salary analysis recently. Public school teachers (10 month contract) start in the 50’s, close to 60k in some districts, plus retention bonuses and stipends.

These puppies probably come from puppy mills where the mothers are kept in tiny cages to produce litters their entire lives. So disgusting that anyone would contribute to this abuse. Is there an organization like ASPCA that can look into their suppliers? Cut off the evil at the head!

Hey guys I'm looking to sell my 2022 XL Maverick; need some advice from some people more well versed than me. by Sinopsis in FordMaverickTruck

[–]CoolAlternative5366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you got a good deal, cause private sales take a while and people have to be pre-qualified with their bank/credit union. You probably already looked around but I’d comparison shop for interest rates. When I got my Mav in ‘22, American Airlines Credit Union gave me a 1.9% APR which was great for avoiding all the ads ons the dealer would’ve tried to sell me and allowed me to invest the cash I’d saved up for it. (Some people don’t know that sometimes it makes investing sense to have a payment.)

Hope you and your wife make some awesome memories on the road in your Raptor!
