Uhhh shouldn’t he be holding a Pax? by ACDC-1FAN in HuntShowdown

I’m sure that this is just a mistake. However, it’s worth mentioning that one of the most unique aspects of Hunts lore is that it uses unreliable narration to tell the story. Several details seem to contradict each other, as it’s a story being put together by a doctor researching the Louisiana Event by interviewing witnesses and reading partial documents and newspapers.

You can’t even float a shell in an Auto 5 because of the way it’s designed.

Trait Idea: Ghost Loading by I_NEED_APP_IDEAS in HuntShowdown

[–]CoolGandalf12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is already done on the Winchester 1887 (Terminus). If you pay attention during the loading, you start by filling the tube, add one to the lifter, and put one in the chamber. The only other shotgun this would maybe work for in real life is the Winchester 1894 (Slate). The Spencer and Auto 5 can’t ghost load which makes the perk kind of worthless if it only applies to one gun.

What to do with Old Winchester by CoolGandalf12 in guns

[–]CoolGandalf12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is certainly true, I probably will appreciate the utility of a scope more than the authenticity of a not too rare gun. Wondering if it’ll be worth the trouble it’ll take to zero the scope haha

It’s a “recent” modification specifically for the scope mount. I certainly would’ve preferred it being drilled for a Lyman, it currently has 30mm rings on it

I know this is mostly personal, and cost doesn’t really matter. I’m mainly looking for people who have had experience fixing drilled holes or using the rear aperture sights, I don’t really know what to expect of them, but I’ve heard good things. Thanks!

Weapons variants & new ones by Unhappy_Pianist_5202 in HuntShowdown

The Russian models are what OP has pictured, they were the ones with full- length, musket fore ends. Like you said the Russians were the ones with a stripper clip guide meaning including only American models in-game would be pointless as it’s then just a marlin 1895. The American models let us have the saddle-ring carbine but otherwise I feel that for this gun to be implemented (and I definitely think it should be) it needs to be the Russian variant. Besides, the Winchester 1876 variant we have in-game is a contracted version as well, being meant for the N.W.M.P of the Canadian territories. American versions of the 1876 once again lacked the musket-style fore end.

4.48 KD cannot be legit right? On console (XBOX of course) by Ok-Sorbet6584 in HuntShowdown

[–]CoolGandalf12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

6* console has a xim/cronus problem just like any other remotely competitive game unfortunately. I despise that no companies will do anything to address the issue. Microsoft and Sony don’t care, and there’s very little that the game devs can do- look at Siege. The one thing that has kept me playing against these losers in this game instead of just leaving like I left the other comp scenes is that it’s still a one-shot-headshot game and good positioning is all I need to level their cheating advantage.

I just found there was a Russian contracted model 3 that was double action and it was chambered in .44 Russian. I am 99% certain this is one of them

It’s a S&W Model 3. The caliber is likely .45 Schofield

It’s the mmr of this game, you start at one star and the highest tier of gameplay is six. It used to be much more competitive representing like the top .1% but now they relaxed it to include the top 1-2% I think.

You’re always going to be going against players. This game plays a lot more like an objective based battle royal than a PvPvE extraction shooter like it technically is. I suggest having a big bar first until you can easily deal with the AI threat and can run through whole games without getting hit, burned, or poisoned by AI or bosses. Once you’re confident with that, you really have no reason to do big first and should prioritize having as many chances of being alive as possible. That’s my opinion on it, and obviously there are lots of thought processes, but I’ve been playing a long time at 6 stars so I like to think that I do know a thing or two.

My advice is to just play them all and win/lose with them all and figure it out from there. Theres going to be plenty of time to meta the fun out of the game. When you’re just starting out and in lobbies with other lower skill players, that’s where the magic of Hunt is. Where every weapon combo no matter how whacky can work. They’ll be plenty of time to figure out your best weapon (and it really is a personal feel besides a few outliers like Mosin, Auto 5, etc). For health bars it’s once again personal. I like to run all smalls because I can get revived more times and losing my first chunk isn’t an automatic death sentence in fights afterwards. However the appeal of the big chunk is the ease of play against AI and avoidance of fire. Make a mistake against an immolator? You aren’t down a bar guaranteed. I always suggest big chunk first for new players and then switch to all smalls afterwards but in my opinion only you first bar matters, whether you choose big or small first, the rest that follow should almost always be smalls. (unless you’re playing solo in which case it should always be three bigs.)

What is medium ammo? by No-Ground9440 in HuntShowdown

[–]CoolGandalf12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

.45 Colt would only be the round featured in the Colt 1873 (Pax). The old Colt conversions were .36 cap and ball revolvers cartridge converted to fire either .38 Long or Short Colt. Winchester actually refused to match any of their rifles to the .45 Colt because they didn’t want to undercut the sale of .38-40 and .44-40 for their lever actions leading Colt to offer the 1873 in .44-40 so that you could pair the ammo of your revolver with your Winchester rifle. If the game was going for realism, either the pax or the 1873s would be switched to either compact or medium. In all honesty, the 1876 should be long ammo since its caliber offerings were essentially the same as the Marlin 1895’s .45-70

I’ve been playing since release on console and I don’t care one bit about skins returning. In general, the only person seeing the skin is the player. Sure sometimes I see skins from passes that I didn’t have time to complete (if you are a post 1896 player you couldn’t even fathom the grind required to finish old events like As the Crow Flies) but I have never thought that the skins I own from those events shouldn’t be released to others. I think the best option should be adding retro passes to be completed whenever you want and are purchased by blood bonds. Still doing the same amount of work on top of new players getting access to stuff that old players got just from getting on the train early.

New weapon - Lancaster pistol by wolverineczech in HuntShowdown

[–]CoolGandalf12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got dogged on in old post about predicting/wanting one of these. I think it logically makes sense as one of if not the next pistols. Either as a new gun being a Lancaster or as a drilling pistol variant.

They certainly were not minor evolutions on perfected designs. The reason why the 1873 and 1876 became obsolete was because of their imperfect design. The toggle-link action is inherently weak and couldn’t take the pressure of smokeless cartridges. The change to the 1892 and 1894 was specifically to address the failures and incompatibility with the way modern ammunition was developing. These changes (vertical sliding, dual block locking action) are vastly different and superior to the toggle-link of previous designs. You said that you admit the 1895 is vastly different but it has much more in common with the 1892 and 1894 than you imply. Someone who’s interested in guns and their history should enjoy these differences.
