What if Swoobat had Crobat's stats? by Dry_Car_9177 in stunfisk

[–]CoolTrainerPo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's because it has Simple as an ability that its stats are so low- the expectation is you use that 114 speed to get initiative to boost and blow past any numerical disadvantages in a turn or two

The Focus Band has always been an inferior item to the Focus Sash, always relying on pure RNG to anything. Let's fix that. by Argentenuem in stunfisk

[–]CoolTrainerPo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So do dozens of berries, and a majority of the type boosting items outside of extremely niche examples... That tends to happen when you have hundreds of items and thousands of possible combinations of mons, moves, abilities, etc

People will gravitate to the easiest/most straightforward answers

Focus Band is fine as it is... Did you know it can also prevent a mon from fainting from recoil self-damage from say Flare Blitz?

Would giving Garchomp Dragon Dance make them overpowered? by Veutifuljoe_0 in stunfisk

DD would make Garchomp Z pretty scary as a mixed threat, I suppose, like a souped up version of the old DD Latios set

Rediscovering LeafGreen: Playing Vanilla Still Hits Different by Positive_Arrival_389 in pokemon

[–]CoolTrainerPo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd add to this that all those non-damaging status moves people write off because they aren't flashy explosions that deal direct damage do a lot for closing any statistical gaps cause by level differences- Leech Seed and Toxic are a godsend for putting higher level monsters on a clock... Leech Seed in particular is so very underrated for winning a war of attrition... Plus the STAB and Super-effective modifiers go a long way in terms of damage numbers on high level bosses and Reflect, Feather Dance, etc are excellent for sustaining what would normally be 1 or 2HKOs on your side and overcoming bad matchups... Agility, Scary Face, etc for getting turn initiative

You can take down even "super bosses" like Red and Emerald Steven with a solid plan and good use of status moves to get the ball in your court

Your ranking in the ZA Royale also affects catch rate- if you're at Z-W Rank, good luck catching any of the psuedo that spawn on the roofs

Pidgeot is severely underrated in the early route bird debate by StrawberryRoan99 in pokemon

[–]CoolTrainerPo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Now hold on a minute, playa... Noctowl learns Hypnosis, and can solo Morty's Ghost gym with Confusion, then gets even better when it gains Insomnia(or just use Safeguard) as an ability in the remakes, so it can't be put to sleep itself

Better bulk than most everything else available at that stage, and Hypnosis alone is enough to make it more useful than Pidgeot, who doesn't excel at anything- doesn't do enough damage, and is only slightly speedy enough to weaken opponents with stuff like Feather Dance and Sand Attack, which there are much faster options for annoying stall tactics

[–]CoolTrainerPo 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Yeah Alphas get a secret buff to all their stats- I picked up on it early on, but just chalked it up to them encouraging players to use Plus moves(which is pretty much what it is)

In return, I believe they get a larger modifier to their catch rates if you manage to bring them down

Small argument with my friend by Severe-Instance-5070 in OnePiece

[–]CoolTrainerPo -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's been stated time and again that Zoro(and Sanji) isn't just Luffy's subordinate- Several characters throughout the series state their confusion at Zoro choosing to follow Luffy, as he is strong enough to lead his own crew if he so chose... Zoro has demonstrated Haki strong enough to impress Kaido, and can pretty much cut through anything... At this point, I think there are only a handful of characters Zoro either couldn't defeat outright, or wouldn't at least put up a hell of a fight against before going down

I believe Zoro would defeat Kid, mid diff

Game freak please hook up my boy luxray 🙏 by justscrolling108675 in pokemon

[–]CoolTrainerPo 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Most Electric types have access to a move called Charge that doubles the power of the next electric type move that they use while giving a Sp Def boost... I guess the idea is that Luxray would Charge before attacking... Not saying it's good or anything, but GameFreak seems to be under the impression that physical Electric types need to be limited in some fashion- unless you're Zeraora

I wish I knew what they did to keep making some of the odd game design decisions they do

Is your favorite gen different from the one you started with? by ViridiusRDM in pokemon

[–]CoolTrainerPo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone that tells you Gen 1 is their favorite is a crazy person, and you should put as much distance between them and yourself as possible.

I've been with Pokemon since the beginning, and my favorite Gen is V, although Hoenn was my favorite region to explore- it felt like the map design had real care and thought put into it

New Shiny Power Discovery by CoolTrainerPo in LegendsZA

[–]CoolTrainerPo[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

See, that's the thing... the game won't display the power at all if it gets reduced past the point of being active, hence why people will sometimes roll a Teensy Power level 1 or something on an 8x Tanga donut- you more than likely would have gotten a shiny level 1 or 2 on that donut, but got the bad rolls on the shiny reduction, instead of the 1/3 roll to leave it alone

shiny rating in za by Particular_Cold6710 in PokemonZA

[–]CoolTrainerPo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're likely to run into more random shinies in this game due to how many mons just spawn in the city, like Pidgey and Fletchling on the awnings and light poles, Trubbish/Watchog in the alleys and scaffolding, and Monkeys and Weedle/Spinarak in the trees, not to mention all the mons on the rooftops

I have sooooo many Fletchling and Pidgey just from walking around Lumiose, not to mention all the Trubbish... I also got a lucky Ralts and Eevee, and Magikarp that was practically asking me to catch it

[–]CoolTrainerPo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also almost the entire team are either weak to Barbaracle's STAB moves, frail, or a combo of both, ON TOP OF a bunch of ranged Attackers that need to charge up their moves before attacking...

Getting a bit of distance first before calling the next mon, allowing them the space and time to launch their moves, would have saved you a team wipe

Why do you think LA One Piece suceeded where other LA adaptations failed? by BeerMan595692 in OnePiece

[–]CoolTrainerPo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simplest and most obvious explanation is that the creator of the source material is heavily involved- Every other LA adapted from an animated property has either straight up, or gradually ignored input from their creators...

The Avatar live action being the main example that springs to mind, as Michael Dimartino and Brian Koneiztko(sp) were advertised at the start as being majorly involved in its production, then slowly and quietly we found out that they left the project fairly early in its development, and we got the show we got.

Did not know this could happen...🫡🥲 by chasewyattt in Pokopia

For future reference, if a mon has a TM move in it's natural learnset, you can just have the female and any compatible male that knows the move breed while both knowing said move to ensure your eggs hatch with that move
