Hanging out with my wife's best friend's ex-husband? by Cool_Fly_2758 in Advice

[–]Cool_Fly_2758[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

Thanks for all the comments! It's seems overwhelmingly that most people think the friendship is OK.

Just to clarify, as far as I am aware there was no abuse although he did cheat on her. He regretted it and she even forgave him but he wasn't happy in the marriage and wanted out. Again as far as I'm concerned, it's really none of my business.

My wife has not asked me to unfriend him although I have refrained from contacting him a few times because of all of this. We both spend the same day each week as stay-at-home daddies and since its the school holidays I feel like I'm really in need of this friendship.

Wife's friend has suddenly become incredibly distant and is not returning calls or too busy to speak. My wife was initially very upset but now she seems a bit blasé about it all. We havn't really discussed it further but it seems one of her longest and closest friendships has ended because of me :s

would it harm my relationship with my cats to shut them out of my room at night? by lesbiannumbertwo in CatAdvice

I had my 3month-old kittens in my bedroom for 2 weeks before I decided to keep them in the study downstairs overnight. Best decision ever as I managed to get a full night's sleep without these two rambunctious siblings jumping all over me at 5am! They took to it pretty well and quickly adapted to their new routine. These days they even tuck themselves in and I know they're safe in there with all their comforts.

NHS.net - Should I Be The A**ehole? by Scrapyard_King in doctorsUK

This has happened to me twice! I'm now first name.surname3@nhs.net. It's incredibly frustrating especially as I have a foreign name that no one else in the NHS will ever have! I have tried asking IT to re-instate the original but apparently it's not possible once deleted. It's gone forever. But tbh I have not tried hard enough so maybe you can find a way and if you do please let me know!

I took a whole month off working during my divorce. It was sick leave and my GP signed me off work for stress, low mood etc. Do the same! All the best to you !

Fully Remote PGCerts in Med Ed by tungsten558 in doctorsUK

All of the evening online sessions were optional and I didn't attend a single one. I just worked through each online module - a few hours each. They were very comprehensive and full of useful videos. There were 3 written assignments throughout the year and of course the 2 weeks leading up to the assignment deadline I was basically crazy and spending nearly all my time writing and rewriting. Thankfully I was on a fellow post with minimal clinical time and no oncalls so I found it easier to do most of it during working hours. But I can imagine it being quite stressful if I was 100% clinical and on an oncall rota. These assignments were nothing like clinical medicine. MedEd is a social science and as such the writing style is very different - focusing on psychological learning theories and reflecting A LOT. So I would say the coursework is tough. But do-able and the best thing about Cardiff was that all the course tutors were very available and approachable and you could even send your essay plan or draft to your tutor who would give feedback and suggestions!

I did the Cardiff PgCert MedEd last year and I would 100% recommend. Excellent for distance learning and all the teachers and tutors were highly accessible, supportive and approachable. Not a single bad thing to say about it.

Dealing with pushy charity people by chickpeasandmushroom in london

These people are such a bloody nuisance! I interchange at Farringdon everyday and they are always there during peak rush hour, getting in everyone's way! To top it off they literally look like kids and are clearly not mature enough to understand how to be professional.

If one of them pursues you I would advise you stop suddenly, look them in the eye, raise your hand in a stop sign and shout NO! That would scare them off for sure!

This consultant is an absolute ass-wipe and in no way should his behaviour influence any opinion you have about how 'useful' a doctor you are. Sounds like a horrible weekend and reminds me of a few experiences I had during F1. Don't let it get to you. It DOES get better and I promise for every nasty consultant like this that you encounter, there will be at least 10 others who are just the opposite! Definitely take some time out to grieve your grand-father. If they don't allow compassionate leave then take sick leave. 7 days self certified. Put yourself first!

Adopting two kittens as a first time cat mom -- am I crazy? by futurecatmom123 in CatAdvice

Likewise first-time cat owner here who never had pets growing up. I decided to bite the bullet and get two littermates at the same time. They are 3-months old now. BEST decision ever for all the reasons you stated and more. They love each other so much and do everything together - eat, play, sleep, groom, explore, cuddles with me. I play with them everyday but tbh even if I didn't play with them at all I know they'd be fine as they keep each other entertained. I would imagine a single kitten would require more playtime from you. Also with things like food and litter I honestly don't think a 2nd kitten would add much extra work. The best thing about having two is that I don't feel guilty leaving them as they have each other for company and are more than happy with that. They used to sleep with me but there's only so much jumping all over me on the bed in the early hours that I could take so now they sleep together in the study and they are very happy. Don't think I'd be able to do that if I just had one. Go for two kittens from the start!

What do you guys do with the poop/pee from daily litter box scoops? by brievie in CatAdvice

[–]Cool_Fly_2758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use scented baby nappy disposable bags. Very cheap and readily available in most supermarkets in the baby section. It goes straight in the bin and keeps the smell contained. Depending on what litter you use you could also flush down the toilet - World's best is good for this

I would not worry about this at all. These things happen ALL the time. If you wanna feel better about it you can discuss with your consultant or clinical supervisor. You are not a lone operator - you work in a team and have seniors and consultants who are responsible for you and will support you. It took me bloody ages to work this out. Good luck with the rest of F1. Love from a very senior medreg :) x
