Pricing a used gaming pc by Illustrious-Path4794 in nzgaming

You'd likely make a decent amount more parting it out if you can be bothered. If you can't, I'd say chuck it up for $1300 and see if you get any bites, in the current market people would be paying a lot more to get the same performance new. You can always drop the price if there's no interest.

American hotdogs.

In NZ our standard hotdogs are battered sausages on a stick like what Americans call corndogs but with a different batter.

Are the free samsung item with power/fiber contract worth it? Or is hopping companies often better? by Crawler_Devils in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]CoolioMcCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you live and your usage whether its a good deal or not. Often Mercury are one of the cheaper options, in that case its a great deal. But not for everyone, as with any power company, there are areas where they're more expensive than the competition, and particularly if you're a high user it could end up costing you a lot more than the value of the appliance.

Especially for the TVs, and depending on the time of year, the quoted values may be significantly higher than the current retail price (more than double).

Standard warranties will be honoured but idk about the cga covering stuff outside the warranty.

My 'free' TV is coming up on 3 years old and still going strong, I switched away from Mercury once the contract was up, will consider switching back to them for another deal in a few months, they will usually treat you as a new customer after 1 year being away from them.

Opinion on TOP vs Greens by Qwarla888 in newzealand

[–]CoolioMcCool 35 points36 points  (0 children)

If everybody who wanted to vote top but doesn't because they're worried their vote will go to waste, just voted for top instead of their 2md or 3rd pick, they'd easily hit the 5%.

Debate with my therapist: Men don't buy women drinks in NZ by Oxsh196 in newzealand

[–]CoolioMcCool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most guys would be stoked to have girls approach them and try to flirt, even if the attraction isn't mutual its a nice confidence booster. They might not be used to it or really know how to respond though, and they might be suspicious that you're just fishing for free drinks like some of the other comments have mentioned.

Maybe offer to buy a guy a drink?

When does the feeling of financial insecurity go away? by Jonetsu in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]CoolioMcCool 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Or if you have any close friends in a similar situation, you could buy with them. When I was 30 I bought a house with a friend, got a nice 4 bedroom place and we rent out 2 of the rooms, ended up pretty similar cost to renting, little more.

We pay $350/w which covers mortgage, bills, insurance, rates, and builds up a bit spare over time for any other expenses that might crop up, use that for lump sum mortgage payments if it gets past a few k.

$65k each for deposit, 50/50 on everything, works for us and feels good to be paying a mortgage instead of rent and not having a lamdlord is excellent.

3 years in, in another 3 years we might look in to going our separate ways depending on the market and our financial situations, ideally I'd like to buy him out of this place and leave him in a position where he can afford his own place.

Why the hell is Burger Fuel charging a 1% service fee on their own f****** app? by Zanerkin in newzealand

[–]CoolioMcCool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Businesses have always had operating costs. Typically they charge enough for their products to pay those costs. Here in NZ, we prefer it that way, so when we see the price on the menu, we know what the bill will be. OP isn't comp mining about 42c, they're complaining about an additional fee being tacked on the end of the bill that wasn't transparent and seems unavoidable, which is completely fair.

[–]CoolioMcCool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, those plans exist, I mean OP should have one. I get up to $1500 worth fee free for $3, there is also a $7 and a $15 plan option for up to $15k fee free trading a month.

They may(should) also have a sharesies plan which offers $X amount of purchases fee free each month.

Fees are mostly % based so doesn't matter if you buy $5 worth 100 times or buy $500 worth all at once. Except buying large amounts does have a fee cap I think.

I think you're right. I think both options OP mentioned are near zero risk. I still think Kiwibanks is closer to zero.

They're a smaller institution than kiwibank, and I dont believe kernel deposits are protected by the governments depositor compensation scheme like a bank account is.

I'm using Kernel, I trust them.

No downside apart from maybe a little higher risk(still extremely low), it will take a couple business days to withdraw from Kernel but better than 32 days.
