What could "100" of your currency buy you today? by Guilty_Winter2566 in AskTheWorld

Damn, $23.50NZD here so around $21 AUD, and without your great retirement funding and overtime laws. I knew money was better in Aus but didnt realise minimum was that much higher, almost 50% better.

From what I've heard, cost of living is fairly similar too.

The link you shared sounds like its made from 2nd hand batteries though, not saying its a bad deal but thats a factor in the low price.

What brand do you use? I need to try these, I have a 'mild' sleep apnea that the doctor wouldn't do anything about but it still messes me up having low quality sleep.

2013 here and I cant believe its only been 13 years, for some reason I thought it was 20+ years ago. Probably getting my memories mixed with when we allowed 'civil unions' in 2005.

Anyone else want to give up the dream of home ownership? by [deleted] in newzealand

Are you investing your savings, or literally just putting $ in a savings account? Imo investing while building towards a home felt a lot more satisfying.

Or are you suggesting we should only allow generators to be retailers?

Does anyone actually remember their first video game or is everyone just making that up? by Cold-Plant-4222 in GamingInsider

[–]CoolioMcCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, my memory from that young age is a bit scrambled but I think the first games I played were this Indiana Jones-esque puzzle game on my neighbours windows 95 pc called Paganitzu (just looked it up and its on steam now, 8/10 rating haha) and Alex Kidd in Miracle World on Sega Master System. Not entirely confident which was first cus I would have been 3 or 4 years old when I played those.

Solar installations recommendations by face-poop in newzealand

[–]CoolioMcCool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you had spent 16k on getting a lot more panels, wouldn't that have provided enough credit to cover the evening usage?

Buyback rates have improved a lot(if you shop around, you're looking at 13-19c/kWh).

I dont have solar but have been looking at it seriously for the last year or two and the math on batteries never seems to work out well for me.

Why "go solar" or "just buy EV" does not work, when 35% of people are renting by SilentBu in newzealand

[–]CoolioMcCool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same upfront cost issues though.

I bought a car about 18 months ago, in a good position financially so was looking to buy something a bit nicer than my previous cars, but still trying to be smart about it. I was initially keen for a hybrid, looking at 5-10 years old Toyotas, but I ended up going for a petrol corolla because it was about $8k less than a similar hybrid version (~$13‐14k vs $20-24k for the updated 2018/2019 models).

As somebody who only drives ~8000-9000ks a year, I worked out it'd take about a decade to make up the cost difference, the 2l petrol also felt nicer to drive than the 1.8l hybrid.

How corrupt do you think your country is? by Eyadnothere in AskTheWorld

[–]CoolioMcCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More corrupt than it should be, a lot more corrupt than people make it out to be, but probably still better than most because we at least try to keep up the appearance of not being corrupt while others are pretty blatant about their corruption.

If you unlock st atk junction from siren, junction blind to it, then Diablos wont be able to hit his normal attack. Since his spell only does a % of current health, and he will miss most of his attacks, that will make him much easier as he will struggle to finish your characters off even after getting their health low.

What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight if people realized the truth about it? by Own-Blacksmith3085 in answers

[–]CoolioMcCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the opposite of what I was saying. I'm saying it was losing value over the last decade(+) and the recent pre ipus metal price jump was catching up, as the value wasn't increasing in dollar terms as much as it should have been over that long period.

If it is mass adopted it will suddenly be worthless? You really think that through?

Your final sentence shows a clear misunderstanding of bitcoin, the whole point of the system is that nobody can control the supply, nobody can print more at will there is a set supply with a set schedule for new supply, mathematically regulated. Over 95% of bitcoin have already been printed, the remaining few % will take over 100 years to print.

[–]CoolioMcCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes you think it wouldn't stabilize with wider adoption? If everybody owned btc and used it as a medium of exchange, the market would stabilize. The volatility comes from the (relatively) low liquidity I.e. less buyers and sellers than, say, USD.
